5 Meet Boyce College Boyce College is named in recognition of the great Baptist statesman and co-founder of The Southern Baptist Theo- logical Seminary, James P. Boyce. In 1974, Boyce Bible School was founded and offered students an associate of arts degree. Under the guiding hand of Southern Seminary President R. Albert Mohler Jr., Boyce Bible School became Boyce College in 1998. Trip Lee Hometown: Washington D.C. Age: 24

“My aim is to write spiritual songs influenced and empowered by the Spirit of God.”

n 2004, Trip Lee met artist . This led to his signing with the label and I releasing his debut album, If They Only Knew. Several albums later – including 2012’s The Good Life – Trip is an increasingly influential voice in the hip-hop movement. “I fell in love with hip-hop before I fell in love with ,” Lee says. “Music was an obses- sion for me at a young age, and there was nothing I loved more than getting a new CD. My rhymes were mostly about how great I thought I was. Ironically, my music wasn’t good yet. It was just an overflow of my love for the art form. “When I was 14 years old, Jesus saved me and my entire life took on new meaning. My friendships, my interaction with my parents and even my music had to be reshaped around the Lord. I wanted my music to glorify God instead of me. Ten years later that desire remains.”

18 Students in the Worldview Studies program spend an evening in Dr. Mohler’s library discussing secularism and the university campus.

Worldview Studies Certificate WHAT CAN WE OFFER YOU? CAN WHAT Research shows that a growing number of students quit attending church after they graduate from high school. While numerous factors contribute to this problem, at Boyce we believe it is primarily an issue of foundations. So, in 2011 Boyce launched an innovative new pro- gram – the Worldview Studies Certificate. The aim of this program is to help establish a biblical worldview in first-time collegiate students who desire further studies in the university setting. Worldview students will complete this intensive, 33-credit hour program in one academic year. The program’s capstone course, “ on the Secular Campus,” is taught on the campus of Harvard University. The Harvard trip is hosted at the close of the academic year and is co-taught by Boyce College Dean, Dan DeWitt, and Bland Mason, a graduate of Southern Seminary, a Boston-area church planter and the chaplain to the Boston Red Sox. In addition to coursework, students will be challenged spiritually as they participate in kingdom service events.

Students who enter the seminary track can potentially earn both an un- dergraduate degree from Boyce College and the master of divinity from Southern Seminary in just five years. Admission to the concurrent master of divinity from Southern Seminary is not guaranteed by entrance into Boyce College, and is based on an academic and character evaluation at the end of the first year of undergraduate study. This accelerated academic program will be rigorous in every way. Students must prepare for extensive study time outside of the classroom as well as year-round coursework. The seminary track B.A. students will train under a faculty that combined has decades of experience behind the pulpit, on the international mission field, in the trenches of urban church planting and counseling the broken.
