Dan DeWitt Boyce College Dean 5 Meet Boyce College Boyce College is named in recognition of the great Baptist statesman and co-founder of The Southern Baptist Theo- logical Seminary, James P. Boyce. In 1974, Boyce Bible School was founded and offered students an associate of arts degree. Under the guiding hand of Southern Seminary President R. Albert Mohler Jr., Boyce Bible School became Boyce College in 1998. Trip Lee Hometown: Washington D.C. Age: 24 Degree: B.A. Biblical & Theological Studies “My aim is to write spiritual songs influenced and empowered by the Spirit of God.” n 2004, Trip Lee met Reach Records artist Lecrae. This led to his signing with the label and I releasing his debut album, If They Only Knew. Several albums later – including 2012’s The Good Life – Trip is an increasingly influential voice in the hip-hop movement. “I fell in love with hip-hop before I fell in love with Jesus,” Lee says. “Music was an obses- sion for me at a young age, and there was nothing I loved more than getting a new CD. My rhymes were mostly about how great I thought I was. Ironically, my music wasn’t good yet. It was just an overflow of my love for the art form. “When I was 14 years old, Jesus saved me and my entire life took on new meaning. My friendships, my interaction with my parents and even my music had to be reshaped around the Lord. I wanted my music to glorify God instead of me. Ten years later that desire remains.” 8 N.D.
