Speaker and interviewee biographies Dr Alan R. Barker PhD, FHEA Alan is a Lecturer in Paediatric Exercise and Health at the Children’s Health and Exercise Research Centre (CHERC), Sport and Health Sciences, University of Exeter and has over 10 years experience of being involved with research in young people and in excess of 30 publications in this area. In relation to the trainability of children and adolescents, Alan has published papers examining the effect of training status on oxidative metabolism in adolescents, and the effect of high-intensity interval training on fitness and health outcomes in adolescents. Alan has written book chapters concerning the measurement and trainability of aerobic fitness in young people for the prestigious Medicine and Sport Science series published by Karger (Titled: The Elite Youth Athlete), and presented on these topics for the Italian Olympic Committee (Rome, 2012) and the International Association of Athletics Federations (Barcelona, 2012). He also led the recent British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences Expert Statement on the Measurement and Interpretation of Aerobic Fitness in Young People Dr Rhodri S. Lloyd PhD, ASCC, CSCS*D Rhodri is currently a senior lecturer in Physiology and Health at Cardiff Metropolitan University. His research interests surround the impact of growth and maturation on long-term athletic development, and the neuromuscular mechanisms underpinning resistance training adaptations in youth. Dr Lloyd was recently the lead author for the 2014 International Consensus Statement for Youth Resistance training. He is a member of the Executive Council for the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) Youth Training Special Interest Group and is a Board Director for the UK Strength and Conditioning Association (UKSCA). David Sunderland Dave is England Athletics National Coach Mentor for Middle Distance and Steeplechase. He has worked with athletes at every level from Schools to Olympics and is a former Olympic team coach. He coached Tina Colebrook to an Indoor 800m world record and Lynsey Sharp to the European 800m title and 2012 Olympic Games. He is a former National Event Coach and an internationally respected coach educator. Dr Jessica Leitch PhD Jessica has a PhD from the University of Oxford in running injury biomechanics. After completing her research, she founded Run3D in order to make the type of technology she had used in research accessible to all athletes. In addition, Jessica is a visiting fellow at the Department of Engineering Science, University of Oxford and sits on the editorial board of the journal Gait and Posture. She is a Director of Run3D Ltd at The Bosworth Clinic, Quarry Court, Bell Lane, Cassington, Oxford. Geoff Wightman Geoff has been a Level 3 UKA Endurance coach since 1991. He has run a 2:13 Marathon and a 4.00.6 mile and in 1990 he placed 8th at Commonwealth Games Marathon and 6th in the European Championship Marathon. Geoff is MD of runbritain, the road running arm of UKAthletics. He has acted as Announcer at various events, including in the stadium at London Olympic Games. Jake Wightman Now 19, Jake started running aged 9. He is an Edinburgh AC member with Personal Bests of 49.70, 1.48.01, 3.43.7, and 4.00.6 for the Mile. In 2013 Jake became European Junior 1500m champion, and won silver at the Scottish Senior 800m and AAA Junior 1500m. He is currently a second year student of Business/Retail Marketing at Loughborough University. www.englandathletics.org.
