IAAF DIAMOND LEAGUE London (GBR) 21st - 22nd July 2018 Flash Quotes TIMING, RESULTS SERVICE & DISTANCE MEASUREMENT BY Dwayne COWAN (GBR) 400m Men National - 1st (45.65 SB) Hopefully there is an individual spot left. I am happy with the race today. Martyn and I are quite similar at the moment. I've been injured all season, so hopefully I can finish the year off strongly. I love this stadium - I always run fast here. 21/07/2018 12:43 Martyn ROONEY (GBR) 400m Men National - 2nd (46.11) I have a bye as the defending champion so hopefully I'll be selected for Europeans. I thought the run was disappointing. I thought coming here I'd run a 45 second low time but it's just not happening. We'll wait and see what the championships bring, it's just about hard training between now and then. 21/07/2018 12:44 Tom BOSWORTH (GBR) 3000m Race Walk Men - 1st (10:43.9) PB, WR, WL It was a shock to do that. I've just come back from altitude training but I still wanted to see what I could do and this is all heading in the right direction for the Europeans. Coming to the London Stadium changes everything for me. Usually I'm on the road and race walking isn't included in the Diamond League very often. I thought there was going to be trouble if I got beaten but I knew the crowd would push me home in that world class field. He was fourth in London last year and I knew it was going to take a PB to win.

  • Annual Report 2020
Annual Report and Accounts 2020 President’s Contents Report It is hard to conclude that the period of this annual report April 2019-March 2020 is anything other than an outstanding success for scottishathletics. This is my second spell as President of Scottish Athletics, and I have observed how far the sport has come in the time. I can remember that it is only 27 years since the five governing bodies struggled but managed to amalgamate and provide a consistent approach to delivering the sport. Progress was slow at first and it took another eight to ten years to start formally planning and professionalise the sport by hiring a Chief Executive Officer and creating a Company Limited by Guarantee. The rest may be history with the major improvements coming in the last decade. Measuring the success of a sport is not simple. There are about 150 affiliated athletic clubs in Scotland that vary in size from small informal clubs with a few members to long-established clubs whose membership exceeds 700. The total individual membership of scottishathletics is around a record 14,000 with a further 10,000+ active weekly participants in jogscotland. Pleasing all of the members is often not an easy task. In my view there are only two measures that can be used to judge the success of a sport: the participation level and the quality at the elite level. If you get these right, then all the other aspects of delivery is usually in place. However, the measures are both difficult to assess as the first one can be dependent on the fluctuation of the population demographics in Scotland and the second one by the popularity of athletics President’s Report 2 throughout the world.

  • Middle Distance Women Looking for Fast Times As the Scandinavians Aim to Impress Local Crowd the Women's 1500M, Which Closes
Middle distance women looking for fast times as the Scandinavians aim to impress local crowd The Women’s 1500m, which closes tomorrow’s Bauhaus Galan, is set to be one of the highlight’s of the afternoon with a stacked field including both Jenny Simspon, the former world champion, and Brenda Martinez from the USA along with Briton’s Laura Muir, the double medallist from the IAAF World Indoor Championships; Ethiopia’s Besu Sado; and Moroccan Rababe Arafi. Local favourite and winner of the 3000m here last year, Meref Bahta is also using the shorter distance as training for her 5000m challenge at the European Championships in Berlin later this summer. Looking ahead to the race Olympic bronze medallist, second in the World Championships in London, USA’s Jenny Simpson, said “I love coming to Stockholm. My reason for this being one of my favourite meetings is that I came here as a college student and won. Last time I raced here I also won so I am hoping Stockholm will be good to me again.” She agreed that the quality of the line up tomorrow is very high and added, “The field is loaded but I do hope to finish in the top three. After Doha and the Prefontaine I am looking to be competitive so I hope it will be fast.” Brenda Martinez, who was sixth in the 800m in Oslo’s Bislett Games last week, said “It really is a great field with all of us within two to three seconds of each other’s PBs. I am looking forward to a very fast race.
