Dale Head House Foolow | Eyam | Hope Valley | S32 5QB DALE HEAD HOUSE Set within two acres of beautiful gardens and grounds and completely enveloped by nothing but mile upon mile of rolling countryside is Dale Head House, an extremely well proportioned and immaculately presented family home that over time has been sympathetically updated. A large four bedroomed detached house beautifully appointed with spacious open rooms which stands prominently in two acres of garden and paddock and has spectacular views over the limestone plateau in all directions and close to the sought after Foolow village. The property has been enlarged over the years and has evolved to offer a superbly appointed family home and would suit those actively retired and discerning buyers with equestrian interests. Rooms have been opened to offer spacious modern areas for living and to offer unrivalled views of the Peak District. Modernised tastefully and with facilities and utilities right up to date this is a lovely opportunity to settle in a remarkable location where there are endless recreational facilities, good schools and major commercial centres within easy reach just outside the Peak District National Park. Ground floor A central hall has a stair to the first floor and leads onto a comfortable sitting room, this room has a dual aspect, a lovely cast iron fireplace and the floor is oak boarded. In contrast the dining room has been opened out to the very large farmhouse kitchen. This is a remarkable hub of this family home and a natural place for gathering and social dining around the log burning stove. The kitchen is modern yet relaxed with timbered cabinets and Belfast sink around a steel cooking range and further practical storage within the pantry. Windows offer views towards Foolow village and doors lead out to the terrace and gardens. A utility room serves its practical function nearby and there is a cloakroom/wc for convenience. The lofty drawing room features a mezzanine with balcony, French doors connect with the extensive private gardens and there are distant views of Eyam Edge. The open-plan kitchen/diner is the real hub of the home,” says Neirin. “It’s a lovely big space that’s ideal for day-to-day family life and it’s also a great for entertaining.” First Floor A lovely arrangement of three double rooms and a single, the bathroom is large and luxurious, it has a modern suite in white featuring an oval freestanding bath and tap stand and a large separate shower enclosure. Within the grounds we have a large triple garage and adjoining garden room,” says Neirin. “However, if the new owners were keen to keep horses, subject to gaining the correct permissions, they could definitely be converted into stables.” Seller Insight My parents bought the property in 2002 and it’s where I lived from the age of eleven, so I spent a great deal of my childhood there and it was an idyllic place to grow up,” says Neirin. “The property incorporates gardens, a paddock and around half an acre of woodland, so it’s a magical place for children and the views are just incredible. It’s a very special place.” “The house was built in c1904 and an extension was added at some point before my parents purchased it, so it’s a very spacious family home, and it’s been beautifully enhanced in more recent years. All of the windows have been replaced, a mezzanine floor was added to the ‘long room’ – we’ve always used it as a spare bedroom, but it could be a lovely little office space – and the kitchen was beautifully refurbished and under- floor heating was installed, which has been a real plus. The house is now really lovely throughout and I think has that perfect balance between old and new; it retains lots of attractive original features but it’s definitely a home for modern family living.” “As I said before, this was a magical environment to grow up in,” continues Neirin. “My brother and I would be gone for hours, building camps in the woods, playing football on the lawn… but we never felt as if we were living in the middle of nowhere. Foolow is a lovely village, half a mile up the road so we always felt part of a community, and as we got older we could head into Sheffield or Chesterfield with relative ease and Manchester is only around an hour away. It’s a setting that has a lot to offer.” “There’s this amazing feeling of peaceful seclusion within the house and grounds, and yet the property is by no means isolated,” says Neirin. “Foolow which has a gorgeous pub is within walking distance and it’s possible to be in Sheffield city centre within half an hour.”* * These comments are the personal views of the current owner and are included as an insight into life at the property. I’ll miss the views, the garden, the setting… it was a fabulous place to grow up,” says Neirin, “and although just lovely as it is, I’d say that there’s still so much scope to further enhance the whole property.” Outside Around two acres of beautifully private gardens, secret paths meander amongst the woodland to the old tree house. The paddock and grazing land stretches out to the boundary and blends effortlessly with the adjoining rolling farmland up to Eyam Edge , Foolow and Bretton. Remote and electrically operated gates open to the long-curved drive to the garages. Garages are clustered by the boundary comprising a generous double and a separate single. The garden room adjoins the garages and is a splendid place to enjoy the upland views. LOCAL AREA Foolow is a conservation village in The Peak District National Park, 1000 feet above sea level on a limestone plateau but sheltered by Eyam Edge and Bretton. Nearby Litton Mill and Cressbrook Mill on the River Wye are areas of Special Scientific Interest and Special Areas of Conservation. Arkwright’s mills were major employers in the area, alongside agriculture. The village of Foolow lies a short walk away and has a stereotypical village green and a welcoming gastronomic country inn The Bulls Head.
