FEBRUARY 4, 2021 – CALGARY FLAMES [1] @ [4] The Flames concluded their five game road trip with a 4-1 loss at the hands of the Winnipeg Jets to fall to 2-3 on the five game road trip. Calgary opened the scoring in the first period on a beautiful feed from Juuso Valimaki to Andrew Mangiapane who redirected the pass to beat Connor Hellebuyck. The Jets responded with three second period goals by Appleton, Connor and Scheifele to take a 3-1 lead in to the third period. Calgary was unable to find the back of the net while Appleton added an empty netter to give the hosts a 4-1 victory. CGY GOAL SCORERS: Mangiapane (2) GOALIE: Jacob Markstrom (23/27, 0.852 Sv%)

TONIGHT’S STORYLINES The Flames face the Edmonton Oilers for the first of ten meetings this season. Calgary took three of four games against the Oilers last season winning both games in Edmonton and splitting at the Saddledome. The last time these two teams met was February 1, 2020 at the Saddledome where both teams combined for over 100 penalty minutes. Flames defenseman Noah Hanifin will play in his 400th career game at the age of 24 years and 12 days old.

Ward joined the Flames in 2018 as an associate coach after spending three seasons with New Jersey as their assistant coach. He started his NHL career with Boston as an assistant coach in 2007 where he spent seven seasons including winning the Stanley Cup in 2011 and another finals appearance in 2013. Ward began his coaching career as an asst. coach at the U. of Waterloo before moving on to junior hockey, first as an asst. coach with Niagara Falls (1991-92) of the OHL, then head coach with Waterloo (1992-93), Kitchener (1993-98) and Guelph (1998-99).
