JOHN HAGEE, CHRISTIAN ZIONISM, U.S. FOREIGN POLICY AND THE STATE OF ISRAEL: AN INTERTWINED RELATIONSHIP Master’s Thesis Presented to the Near Eastern and Judaic Studies department Brandeis University S. Ilan Troen, Advisor In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree Master of Arts By Michael Kupferberg May 2009 Copyright by Michael Kupferberg May, 2009 ABSTRACT John Hagee, Christian Zionism, U.S. Foreign Policy and the State of Israel: An Intertwined Relationship A thesis presented to the Near Eastern and Judaic Studies department Graduate School of Arts and Sciences Brandeis University Waltham, MA By Michael Kupferberg Christian Zionism while originating in England over two centuries ago is currently experiencing a reinvigoration, especially in the political world. Christian Zionists are using politics as a way to fulfill Biblical prophecy, by influencing powerful politicians in all levels of government to support Israel. The most vocal, and prominent leader within the Christian Zionist movement is Pastor John Hagee. Through the establishment of his organization Christians United for Israel, Hagee has localized and given a tangible center for Christian Zionist activists. Additionally, the movement has gained membership as it was established in the model of a grassroots organization. Hagee has become a well known figure in the political community, and garners national media attention. While it has become fashionable in recent times to criticize Jewish organizations such as AIPAC, it is the Christian Zionist organizations which yield a large portion of power in Washington. However, it is crucial to realize that while CUFI and groups like it may yield some power in Washington, and account for some of the decision making that goes into U.S. -

Reflecting the Orientalist tendency of constructing degrading monolithic caricatures of Islam and Muslims, these leaders construct essentialist depictions which play a powerful role in shaping Christian Zionist laypeople’s conceptions of Muslims in general and Palestinian Muslims in particular. Seeking to gauge Christian Zionism’s place within the landscape of American evangelical Christianity, it is difficult to determine the actual number of Christian Zionists in the United States. -
Most-Popular-Christian-Movies-Guide
MOST POPULAR CHRISTIAN MOVIE GUIDE Dear Christian Movie Fan, Have you ever watched something on TV and thought, “I probably shouldn’t be watching this, but it’s not real. It’s just TV, so it’s fine?” We’ve all been there — that moment when you know you really should just hit “off” on the remote. Whether we feel them or not, the stories we watch affect us. Jesus taught in stories, or parables, because he knew that for a point to really hit home, we would need to hear it within the context of a story. So if Jesus were to pick the TV we watch, he’d skip the stories that glorify or normalize behavior contrary to His plan for our happiness. Instead, he would choose stories that open our eyes to his goodness and inspire us to live a better life. If it’s been a challenge for you to find films where characters are role models and storylines support family values, you’ve come to the right place. Below is a guide to get you started with some of the most popular and most watched Christian movies. With this movie guide you can be sure that every choice is a good choice. Ezekiel's Two Sticks and Eschatological Violence in the Pentecostal Tradition
EZEKIEL’S TWO STICKS AND ESCHATOLOGICAL VIOLENCE IN THE PENTECOSTAL TRADITION: AN INTERTEXTUAL LITERARY ANALYSIS BY ALICIA R. Jackson 2018 All Rights Reserved ii ABSTRACT This thesis explores the topic of eschatological violence in the Pentecostal tradition through an intertextual literary analysis of Ezekiel 36:16—39:29 and Revelation 19:11—21 and 20:7—10 by investigating primarily how the intentional literary placement of the ‘Two Sticks’ oracle (Ezek 37:15—28) between the ‘Dry Bones’ vision (Ezek 37:1—14) and the ‘Gog of Magog’ war (Ezek 38:1—39:29) informs the reader’s theological understanding of the message of Ezekiel 36:16—39:29 as a whole. Secondarily, this thesis considers how the allusion to Ezek 38—39 in Rev 19:11—21 and 20:7—10 enhances the reader’s theological understanding of Ezek 36:16—39:29, yielding an intertextual reading that challenges the way these texts have long been understood in popular Pentecostal contexts. -
American Christian Zionism and U.S. Policy on Settlements in the Palestinian Occupied Territories
Lauer American Christian Zionism and U.S. Policy on Settlements in the Palestinian Occupied Territories Erin Lauer American University School of International Service Honors in International Studies Senior Capstone Advisor: Boaz Atzili Spring 2009 - 1 - Lauer “If America forces Israel to give up the Golan Heights or the West Bank (Judea and Samaria), it will clearly violate scripture. We are giving the enemies of Israel the high ground in the coming war for Israel’s survival. It’s time for our national leaders in Washington to stop this madness.” Reverend John Hagee President, Christians United for Israel In Defense of Israel , 2007 - 2 - Lauer Foreword This research is the culmination of spending nearly 2 years living and working in different aspects of the Arab- Israeli conflict. Living with the Mhassan family, who fled from Ramallah to Amman, Jordan during the 1967 war, shaped my passion for the conflict, as I saw several aspects of the Palestinian Diaspora experience in my time abroad from September 2007-June 2008. The past academic year has been focused on the American political connection to the conflict, experienced through my time interning at the American Task Force on Palestine and the Foundation for Middle East Peace. These experiences have been critical to my development as a student and as a researcher, and I can say certainly that without these experiences, this research would not have happened. In the course of this research, I have received great help from people on all sides of this issue, and without them, this paper would not be the piece it is today. -

Islamophobia Studies Journal
ISLAMOPHOBIA STUDIES JOURNAL Volume 2 • Issue 1• Spring 2014 2 ISJ 2(1) About the ISJ The Islamophobia Studies Journal is a bi-annual publication that focuses on the critical analysis of Islamophobia and its multiple manifestations in our contemporary moment. ISJ is an interdisciplinary and multi-lingual academic journal that encourages submissions that theorizes the historical, political, economic, and cultural phenomenon of Islamophobia in relation to the construction, representation, and articulation of “Otherness.” The ISJ is an open scholarly exchange, exploring new approaches, methodologies, and contemporary issues. The ISJ encourages submissions that closely interrogate the ideological, discursive, and epistemological frameworks employed in processes of “Otherness” – the complex social, political, economic, gender, sexual, and religious forces that are intimately linked in the historical production of the modern world from the dominance of the colonial/imperial north to the post-colonial south. At the heart of ISJ is an intellectual and collaborative project between scholars, researchers, and community agencies to recast the production of knowledge about Islamophobia away from a dehumanizing and subordinating framework to an emancipatory and liberatory one for all peoples in this far- reaching and unfolding domestic and global process. 3 Advisory Board Hishaam Aidi Members School of International and Public Affairs, Columbia University, Global Fellow at the Open Society Foundation. Journal of Religion & Society
Journal of Religion & Society Volume 10 (2008) The Kripke Center ISSN 1522-5658 Potential for Apocalypse Violence and Eschatology in the Israel-Palestine Conflict Ross Moret, Valparaiso University Abstract The conflict in Israel-Palestine has helped to produce one of the world’s most consistently volatile geographical hotbeds. Although the reasons for this conflict are many and complex, religious difference is universally cited as one of the region’s most explosive and decisive issues. This paper deals with eschatology, or the study of last things, as one branch of religion that is particularly prone to produce violent reactions. There are two principle reasons why this is the case. First, apocalyptic prophecies are inherently violent. This violent tendency is, moreover, compounded in Israel-Palestine because Judaism, Christianity, and Islam all predict that Jerusalem will be the site of the bloody events of the end of days. Second, these apocalyptic visions deepen the problem by contributing to situations that are likely to produce wide-scale violence as predicted by the theories of Manus Midlarsky, Thomas Robbins, Jessica Stern, and James Waller. Introduction [1] “Yeah, but I like those terrorists.” This was the reaction of a woman – as selfless, caring, and loving a woman as I know – to the information that a Jerusalem institution she had visited the previous year was operated by a man convicted of plotting to blow up the Dome of the Rock. Such a statement, made by such a woman, was the result of a sincere religious conviction and goes to underscore the intensity of the religious conflict that continuously smolders in and around the State of Israel. -
