Málaga CF will look to continue their dream start to life in the UEFA Champions League when they welcome AC Milan to La Rosaleda. • The tournament newcomers head Group C after 3-0 victories over FC Zenit St Petersburg and RSC Anderlecht, and will increase their lead at the top to five points if successful against second-placed Milan. Match background • This is the first encounter with Italian opposition for Málaga, who are yet to concede in four European outings this term, qualifiers included. • This is only Málaga's second season of European football and they remain unbeaten at home in UEFA competition. In 2002/03 they played eight home fixtures from the third round of the UEFA Intertoto Cup through to the UEFA Cup quarter-finals, recording five wins and three draws. Add this season's successes over Panathinaikos FC in the play-offs and Zenit on matchday one and they have conceded only three goals in ten home outings. • Milan's 3-2 victory at Zenit last time out was their first win in seven UEFA Champions League away matches. • The Rossoneri's last visit to Spain was a 3-1 defeat by FC Barcelona in the 2011/12 quarter-finals. They had drawn 2-2 at the Camp Nou in the group stage. • Milan's last win on Spanish soil came in the 2009/10 group stage, beating a Real Madrid CF side coached by Manuel Pellegrini. Their overall away record against teams from Spain is W4 D5 L12. Team ties • Pellegrini's Madrid lost 3-2 against Milan at the Santiago Bernabéu in 2009/10, Pato scoring twice – including the 88th-minute winner – but earned a 1-1 draw in Italy and ended top of the group with the Serie A side second. • During his semi-final run with debutants Villarreal CF in 2005/06, Pellegrini got the better of FC Internazionale Milano in the quarter-finals, ousting them on away goals after a 2-1 away loss and 1-0 home victory. • Pellegrini's Villarreal also earned 1-1 UEFA Cup group stage draws at S.S. Lazio in 2004/05 and ACF Fiorentina in 2007/08. • Riccardo Montolivo found the net in Italy's 2-1 friendly victory over Spain in August 2011. Along with Ignazio Abate he was in the side beaten 4-0 by Spain in the UEFA EURO 2012 final. • Bojan Krkić won all five of his games against Málaga with Barcelona. His only goal came in a 3-1 win at La Rosaleda in May 2011, his final outing for Barcelona. Like Bojan, Carmona began his career with the Catalan club. • Robinho scored for Madrid in a 2-0 Liga win at Málaga in December 2005. He played with Javier Saviola and Brazil colleague Júlio Baptista during his time at Madrid. • Roque Santa Cruz and Nigel de Jong were together at Manchester City FC between 2009 and 2011. • Martín Demichelis played in Bayern's 2010 UEFA Champions League final loss against Inter. • Mario Yepes was a team-mate of Demichelis and Saviola at CA River Plate. After leaving for FC Nantes in 2002, Yepes played alongside Jérémy Toulalan. • Oguchi Onyewu was on Milan's books between 2009 and 2011 but made only one competitive appearance, as a substitute in a 1-0 UEFA Champions League home defeat by FC Zürich in September 2009. • Cristián Zapata (Villarreal) and Christian Abbiati (Club Atlético de Madrid) have also played in the Spanish Liga. • Eliseu made two substitute appearances in Serie A for Lazio in 2009/10. FARE Action Week • Matchday three of the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League will contribute to the fight against all forms of discrimination in football stadiums as UEFA gives its full support to Europe's biggest anti-discrimination campaign – the FARE Action Week. Forty matches across the competitions on 23, 24 and 25 October will restate UEFA's commitment to ensuring that European football is free of racism, intolerance and xenophobia.

Málaga UEFA Champions League statistics • Málaga are one of three clubs making their debut in the group stage this season, along with Montpellier Hérault SC and FC Nordsjælland. • The Spanish side, along with FC Porto, are the only team still to concede in this season's group stage. • Málaga did not concede in qualifying, so have kept a clean sheet in all four of their European Cup games. • Martín Demichelis' next yellow card will incur a ban. International duty • Five Málaga players were on senior international duty last week: Carlos Kameni, Fabrice (Cameroon), Nacho Monreal (Spain), Manuel Iturra (Chile) and Seba (Uruguay). • A first-leg penalty from Isco helped Spain to an 8-1 aggregate victory against Denmark in the UEFA European Under-21 Championship play-offs. • Fabrice, 16, scored a second-leg winner against Cape Verde on his debut for Cameroon, but the 2-1 triumph in Yaounde on 14 October was not enough to reach the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations. Miscellaneous • Club Atlético de Madrid ended Málaga's 11-game unbeaten run in all competitions with a 2-1 victory on 7 October. Prior to that, the Andalusian side had been enjoying their longest undefeated start to a top-flight season since 2002/03. • Aged 16 years and 98 days, Fabrice became the youngest scorer in Liga history when he struck the only goal against RC Celta de Vigo on 18 August. • Málaga's fourth-placed finish last term was their highest in the Liga. The team's previous best of seventh was achieved in 1970/71 and 1973/74. • Málaga finished 2011/12 with 58 points, beating their previous top-flight best of 56, in 2000/01. • Striker Júlio Baptista is a long-term absentee with an Achilles problem. Milan UEFA Champions League statistics • Milan have scored 395 goals in the European Cup. • At 19 years and 342 days, Stephan El Shaarawy became AC Milan's youngest UEFA Champions League goalscorer when he struck against FC Zenit St Petersburg on matchday two. International duty • Seven Milan players were on senior duty during the international break: Ignazio Abate, El Shaarawy, Riccardo Montolivo (Italy), Nigel de Jong, Urby Emanuelson (Netherlands), Mario Yepes and Cristián Zapata (Colombia). • El Shaarawy made his competitive debut for Italy as a substitute in the Azzurri's 3-1 win in Armenia on 12 October. • Four days later Montolivo broke the deadlock as Italy defeated Denmark 3-1 in a qualifier at San Siro. • Mattia De Sciglio played in both games as Italy secured their place in the 2013 UEFA European Under-21 Championship finals with a 4-2 aggregate victory against Sweden in the play-offs. Miscellaneous • Robinho suffered a right thigh injury in training on 16 October. • The 1-0 loss to FC Internazionale Milano on 7 October was the Diavolo's fourth reverse in seven Serie A matches this term. Milan had not started a campaign in such fashion since 1941/42. • Pato, who made his first senior appearance this season on Saturday after a thigh injury sustained in August, scored twice for the club's Primavera youth side on 6 October. • Filippo Inzaghi retired in the summer and took over the Allievi Nazionali youth side.

Málaga CF: Manuel Pellegrini Date of birth: 16 September 1953 Nationality: Chilean Playing career: CF Universidad de Chile Coaching career: CF Universidad de Chile, CD Palestino (three times), Chile Under-20, CD O'Higgins, CD Universidad Católica, LDU de Quito, CA San Lorenzo de Almagro, CA River Plate, Villarreal CF, Real Madrid CF, Málaga CF • The former centre-back began his coaching career in 1988 with his sole club as a player, Universidad de Chile, before spending the next 16 years working with sides in Chile, Ecuador and Argentina. • Took over at Villarreal in 2004, guiding them to third place in the Liga in his debut season and securing a place in the UEFA Champions League for the first time. His side also reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup. • The following campaign, Villarreal defied all expectations by reaching the UEFA Champions League semi-finals, where they bowed out 1-0 on aggregate to Arsenal FC. Guided the club to second place in the 2007/08 Liga, a club record, and the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals the following season, again being knocked out by Arsenal. • Signed a two-year contract with Real Madrid on 2 June 2009, the club winning a then record 96 points in the Liga but still finishing second behind FC Barcelona, prompting Pellegrini's dismissal in May 2010 • That November he succeeded Jesualdo Ferreira as coach of Málaga and in the following campaign oversaw a fourth-placed league finish, the club's best ever, subsequently negotiating UEFA Champions League qualifying to reach the group stage for the first time.

AC Milan: Massimiliano Allegri Date of birth: 11 August 1967 Nationality: Italian Playing career: UC Cuoiopelli, AS Livorno Calcio (twice), Pisa Calcio, AC Pavia, Pescara Calcio (twice), Cagliari Calcio, AC Perugia, Calcio Padova, SSC Napoli, AC Pistoiese, Aglianese Calcio 1923 Coaching career: Aglianese Calcio 1923, SPAL 1907, US Grosseto FC, US Sassuolo Calcio, Cagliari Calcio, AC Milan • A creative attacking midfielder, Allegri started out in his native Tuscany with Cuoiopelli and then Livorno, his hometown club. First appeared in Serie A for Pisa against Milan in 1988/89 but played only twice that season before heading back to Livorno. • Returned to Serie A after helping Pescara win promotion in 1992. The following term he scored 12 goals under Giovanni Galeone, the coach Allegri still considers his mentor. After leaving Pescara in 1993, had spells at Cagliari, Perugia, Padova and Napoli before hanging up his boots back in Tuscany with fourth division Aglianese in 2003. • Moved straight into coaching at Aglianese, prior to taking charge at SPAL and Grosseto. In November 2008 he won the Panchina d'Oro (golden bench) as the third division's best coach having led Sassuolo to promotion. • Had earlier been appointed by Cagliari whom he led to ninth place in 2009, winning the Panchina d'Oro again, this time as Serie A's best coach. A bad run of results the following season prompted Allegri's dismissal on 13 April 2010 – although he had already done enough to earn a two-year contract at Milan. • Allegri's first season at San Siro ended with his new club winning the Scudetto for the first time since 2004. In January 2012 he extended his contract until June 2014.

UEFA Champions League: Did you know? • Holders Chelsea FC are hoping to avoid becoming the first defending champions to fail to get through a group stage since the UEFA Champions League began. (This record, like the others, includes the seasons between 1999/2000 and 2002/03 that featured a second group stage). In 1992/93, FC Barcelona were the reigning European Champion Clubs' Cup holders and lost 4-3 on aggregate in the second round by PFC CSKA Moskva. • No team has successfully defended the UEFA Champions League trophy with AC Milan (1989, 1990) the last club to win consecutive European Cups. Milan (1994, 1995), AFC Ajax (1995, 1996), Juventus (1996, 1997) and Manchester United FC (2008, 2009) have all returned to the UEFA Champions League final as holders only to lose. • S.S. Lazio goalkeeper Marco Ballotta is the oldest player to compete in the UEFA Champions League having featured against Real Madrid CF on matchday six in 2007/08 aged 43 years and 252 days. Alessandro Costacurta is the oldest outfield player; the Milan defender was 40 years and 211 days when he played against AEK Athens FC in 2006/07. • Ryan Giggs is the oldest player to score in the competition, aged 37 years and 289 days, in Manchester United's 1-1 draw at SL Benfica on 14 September 2011. • Celestine Babayaro is the youngest player to have appeared; he was 16 years and 87 days when he started for RSC Anderlecht against FC Steaua Bucureşti on 23 November 1994. He was sent off in the 37th minute. • Peter Ofori-Quaye is the youngest player to have scored in the UEFA Champions League, aged 17 years and 195 days. He found the net in Olympiacos FC's 5-1 defeat at Rosenborg BK on 1 October 1997. • Lionel Messi became the first player to score five goals in a match in Barcelona's 7-1 win against Bayer 04 Leverkusen on 7 March 2012. Eight players, including Messi, have scored four times in a game, most recently FC Bayern München's Mario Gomez on matchday eight last season. • Barcelona have finished as group winners on 13 occasions, one more than Manchester United and Real Madrid. • Five teams have recorded six successive victories in a UEFA Champions League group stage: Milan (1992/93), Paris Saint-Germain FC (1994/95), FC Spartak Moskva (1995/96), Barcelona (2002/03, first group stage) and Real Madrid (2011/12). • Fifteen teams have gone through a UEFA Champions League group stage without picking up a single point, including Villarreal CF, FC Oţelul Galaţi and GNK Dinamo Zagreb in 2011/12. • Barcelona scored 20 goals in the 2011/12 group stage, equalling Manchester United's competition record from 1998/99. Barcelona scored 19 times in the 1999/2000 first group stage, a tally matched by Real Madrid last season. • Only two teams have failed to score in a group stage: RC Deportivo La Coruña in 2004/05 and Maccabi Haifa FC in 2009/10. • Dinamo Zagreb conceded 22 goals in the 2011/12 group stage, a new record. The previous highest goals against total was 19, shared by MŠK Žilina (2010/11), Debreceni VSC (2009/10), FC Dynamo Kyiv (2007/08) and Ferencvárosi TC in 1995/96. • No team has ever gone through a UEFA Champions League group stage without conceding a goal. Milan (1992/93), Ajax (1995/96), Juventus (1996/97 and 2004/05), Chelsea (2005/06), Liverpool FC (2005/06), Villarreal (2005/06) and Manchester United (2010/11) all let in just one. • Before their 3-1 win against Sporting Clube de Portugal on matchday six of the 2006/07 campaign, Spartak Moskva went 22 games without a victory in the competition. • The lowest total for a team qualifying from the group stage is seven points. The first to do it since three points for a win was introduced in 1995/96 were Legia Warszawa that same season before Dynamo Kyiv and Bayer 04 Leverkusen managed it in 1999/2000 and Liverpool in 2001/02. FC Lokomotiv Moskva and eventual finalists Juventus both progressed with seven points in 2002/03, as did Rangers FC and SV Werder Bremen in 2005/06. • Only two teams have ever won the UEFA Champions League on home soil: Borussia Dortmund (1997, final in Munich) and Juventus (1996, final in Rome), while Manchester United lost the 2011 final in London and 12 months later Bayern were beaten in the showpiece in their own stadium, the Fußball Arena München.
