2017 Ffsa Season Review Facilities Funding 2017 FFSA SEASON REVIEW FACILITIES FUNDING The continued improvement of club based infrastructure has been a strategic priority for Football Federation SA in the past number of years. Being able to cater for the expanding participation base is vitally important to the sustainability of clubs. Additionally, being able to provide quality environments for game day and training will ultimately lead to the development of quality players for the future. In partnership with clubs, Football Federation SA (FFSA) has developed a Football Facilities Development Strategy that has considered the existing provision of facilities available for Football in the State and planned for future growth. The planning document has provided an evidenced based vehicle to present to Federal, State and Local Governments. Football’s plan received a fantastic boost when the South Australian State Government announced an investment of $13.5 million into community Football facilities. The announcement made by Treasurer Tom Koutsantonis (who has been a great supporter of Football in the state) and Deputy Premier John Rau enabled Football Federation SA to unlock a further $7 million in federal and local government support. The combined investment has seen $30.5 million invested in Football specific infrastructure projects in the past two years. The following clubs and user groups have been positively impacted on as a result of the South Australian State Government’s investment; Adelaide Olympic Football Club, Modbury Jets, Adelaide University Women, Adelaide City Women, Campbelltown Women, Cumberland United Women, Fulham United Women, Metro United Women, Salisbury Inter Women, West Adelaide Women, Sturt Lion, Fullham United, West Adelaide Hellas, Adelaide Comets, Metro Stars, White City Juniors and Seniors, Cove, South Adelaide Panthers, Seaford Rangers, West Torrens Birkalla, Mt Barker United, Northern Demons, Cumberland United, Referees, NTC Boys & Girls, FFSA Development Squads (Boys & Girls). Football Federation SA and the Football Family thanks the Federal, State and Local Government’s for your support. 2017 FFSA SEASON WRAP PAGE 2 Digital and Sponsorship Football Federation South Australia expanded its presence across digital platforms again in 2017, continuing with the Triple M video podcast, and introducing the well received RAA Highlights Package. The Real Football Show, hosted by Triple M’s Chris Dittmar, had a total viewership of more than 200,000 via Facebook across 30 episodes, with an average of 7,106 views per week (70% increase from 2016). The launch of the RAA highlights package has taken coverage of both the PlayStation 4 National Premier League and Women’s National Premier League to new heights this year, showcasing the talent on offer within the local game throughout the State. With an average viewership of 4,181 views per week across Facebook and YouTube, there is a strong case to expand on this for 2018. The Match of the Round Live Stream continued for a third year, with FFSA broadcasting one game for each round of the 2017 PlayStation 4 NPL season. Halfway through the season, the broadcast platform transitioned from YouTube to Facebook Live, seeing a dramatic increase in the number of viewers tuning in each week. The largest viewership for an individual game came for the Westfield FFA Cup South Australian Qualifying Final between Adelaide City and MetroStars, with nearly 14,000 viewers watching the game live. Football Federation SA continued to expand it list of passionate and committed corporate partners in 2017, welcoming; Elliott and Turner Travel Associates, AMC Commercial Cleaning, Adelaide Fence Co, 4 Ways Fresh Produce, JB Metropolitan Distributors and Essential Sports Products. Additionally, FFSA announced its first official charity partner, linking up with HeartKids and holding the first HeartKids Round where the football family collectively raised in excess of $7,000. 2017 FFSA SEASON WRAP PAGE 3 Pathway Programs Football Federation SA continues to look after pathway programs in South Australia and we are continually striving to employ the best possible coaches and provide the best possible environment to develop young players for the future. In excess of 900 players (boys and girls) experience pathway programs annually with each player receiving a minimum of 8 weeks and up to 11 months in an intensive training environment. Nationally, South Australian teams are punching well above our weight when considering the much larger participation bases of the eastern states. FFSA is committed to the continued improvement of our pathway programs and thank local clubs for the support in releasing players for the betterment of Football in the State. In the past 5 years there have been a number of players identified from South Australia who have been fortunate enough to gain further opportunities within the game. The following page provides a list of players and where they are now participating. 2017 FFSA SEASON WRAP PAGE 4 FFSA Male Players Identified (Last 5 Years) Below is a list of male players who have been through the programs and have progressed on to the National Premier Leagues, Adelaide United Youth Team, Hyundai A-League, Overseas Clubs and National Teams. This has been aided by 54 new referees completing the Level 4 Referee course and all picking up the whistle following on from the course. We were also able to retain 84% of our referees from 2016 which is higher then the national average of 75%. Our increase in numbers has allowed FFSA to cover 92% of the 6389 matches in the Senior Men’s, Women’s and Community leagues with at least one registered official taking the burden off clubs and volunteers to supply or act as a referee. This year has also seen South Australia highly represented at FFA tournaments, and for the first time in many years we have had three referees attend both Girl’s and Boy’s National Youth Championships with South Australian Coaches attending both tournaments . Following on from this our representation on the Hyundai A-League has increased from previous years to five officials with the addition of the Video Assistant Referee and South Australian referee coaches both being used by FFA on the Westfield FFA Cup Quarter Final matches held on the 13th September and 20th September. Our Westfield W-League Panel has also increased this year to three with the addition of Paula Orlandi who will make her debut this season as an Assistant Referee. A full list of National appointments is below. FFSA has also been very active in the coaching and training of its local and regional referees with entry level courses being held throughout the year in the Metro area, Adelaide Hills region, Port Pirie, Riverland, Mt Gambier, Yorke Peninsula and Port Lincoln. All courses were well attended and have helped to strengthen the referee associations in those regions and provide better quality officials to the regional associations. FFSA has also committed to more then three times the amount of referee upgrades from 2016
