They had four children: Henry, Richard, Thomas, and George. 2-Henry Reynolds1 was born in 1673 and died in 1712 at age 39. 2-Richard Reynolds1 was born in 1675 and died in 1745 at age 70. Richard married Anne Adams. They had one daughter: Mariah. 3-Mariah Reynolds1 was born on 29 Mar 1715 and died in 1715. 2-Thomas Reynolds1 was born about 1677 in Southwark, London and died about 1755 in Southwark, London about age 78. Noted events in his life were: • He worked as a Colour maker. Thomas married Susannah Cowley1 on 22 Apr 1710 in FMH Southwark. Susannah was born in 1683 and died in 1743 at age 60. They had three children: Thomas, Thomas, and Rachel. 3-Thomas Reynolds1 was born in 1712 and died in 1713 at age 1. 3-Thomas Reynolds1,2,3 was born on 22 May 1714 in Southwark, London and died on 22 Mar 1771 in Westminster, London at age 56. Saints John Houghton, Robert Lawrence, Augustine Webster, Richard Reynolds SAINT OF THE DAY 04-05-2020 The saints remembered today were the first to suffer martyrdom for refusing to take the oath to the Act of Supremacy of 1534, which declared King Henry VIII supreme head of the Church of England. These were the Carthusian Protomartyrs John Houghton, Robert Lawrence and Augustine Webster and the Brigidine monk Richard Reynolds, all martyred on 4 May 1535. The four are part of the group of the “Forty Holy Martyrs of England and Wales”, religious and lay people, men and women of different social backgrounds but united by the Catholic faith, who offered their lives as witness to Christ at different dates and times (between 1535 and 1679). Paul VI canonized them all together on October 25, 1970. The 40 are only a part of the hundreds of recognized martyrs, including saints and blesseds, who were also victims of the anti-Catholic persecutions that followed the Anglican Schism. After his illegitimate second marriage to Anne Boleyn and the new Act of Succession, Henry VIII tried to obtain the consent of his subjects, starting with those who had the greatest influence on the people. One of his first objectives was the Charterhouse of London, known for the austerity of the monks' lives, where John Houghton was prior. He asked that his community be released from the obligation to swear the oath to the new law, which demanded the annulment of Henry's marriage (never dissolved by the Pope) to Catherine of Aragon. The exoneration was not granted and therefore Houghton was imprisoned in the Tower of London together with his brother Humphrey Middlemore (he too would be martyred). -

Entre ellos destacan representaciones de los martirios de religiosos cartujos en Inglaterra (1535, 1537, 1540) y en los Países Bajos (1572). Se trata de obras escasamente estudiadas por los historiadores del arte español, que también han pasado desapercibidas para los autores de trabajos recientes sobre la cultura martirial de la Europa Moderna. (Carthusian Statutes 34.3) If a survey were to be conducted today in which people were asked about their knowledge of monastic life, they would probably say that the abbeys and monasteries in which nuns and monks live are to be found hidden away in the countryside in quiet places far away from modern cities. Although this is quite true in most cases, there are many religious who strive to live the monastic life in the heart of a city or other urban surroundings. Good examples would include the Tyburn Nuns in Marble Arch, London, the Carmelite Monastery, Allerton in the city of Liverpool or the gargantuan Monastery of The Holy Cross in Chicago. We might be inclined to think that “urban monasticism” is a purely modern invention, but would be wrong in doing so because many monasteries in medieval England were situated in or near cities and towns, both by accident and design. -

They are full of meaning and symbolism whether it is in the structure, the layout, the fittings, the furnishings or the décor. The very shape of the church reflects a system of belief and worship. A church is a material witness to an invisible spiritual reality. This leaflet is intended to unlock for you some of the meaning of this place of worship. General This church is dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows & St Bridget of Sweden. It is the spiritual home of the Isleworth Catholic community which is over 300 years old, making it one of the oldest in southern England. After centuries of worshipping in a small back street chapel, the community in 1909 emerged into a prominent position in the town with this imposing new church. The architect was Edward Doran Webb, the architect of the Birmingham Oratory, and the style chosen, as at Birmingham, was Italian Renaissance. The builder was Messrs Erwood & Morris of Bath. The style derives from the early church by way of the Italian Renaissance and the Catholic reformation. For their places of worship, the early Christians often adopted the basilican plan which was commonly used for Roman public buildings – that is a rectangular nave with a curved and half domed apse and the roof supported by columns. -

DETERMINATION Case reference: ADA3114 Objector: A parent Admission Authority: The Governing Body of St Richard Reynolds Catholic College, Richmond upon Thames for St Richard Reynolds Catholic Primary School and St Richard Reynolds Catholic High School Date of decision: 2 November 2016 Determination In accordance with section 88H(4) of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998, I uphold the objection to the admission arrangements for September 2017 determined by the Governing Body of St Richard Reynolds Catholic College, Richmond upon Thames for St Richard Reynolds Catholic Primary School and St Richard Reynolds Catholic High School. I have also considered the arrangements in accordance with section 88I(5) and find there are other matters which do not conform with the requirements relating to admission arrangements in the ways set out in this determination. By virtue of section 88K(2) the adjudicator’s decision is binding on the admission authority. The School Admissions Code requires the admission authority to revise its admission arrangements within two months of the date of the determination. The referral 1. Under section 88H(2) of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998, (the Act), an objection has been referred to the adjudicator by a parent (the objector) about the admission arrangements (the arrangements) for September 2017 for St Richard Reynolds Primary School and St Richard Reynolds High School (the schools), two voluntary aided schools each with a Catholic religious character which between them provide for pupils aged four to 18, determined by the schools’ federated governing body which is known as St Richard Reynolds Catholic College (the college). -

The Canonisation of the Forty Martyrs of England and Wales The cause for the canonisation of the Forty Martyrs of England and Wales, which eventually took place on 25 October 1970, had its roots in the mid-19th Century when, following the restoration of the Catholic hierarchy in England and Wales in 1850, Cardinal Nicholas Wiseman and Cardinal Henry Manning, successive Archbishops of Westminster from 1850 until 1892, led a campaign for the recognition of those who had been Martyred for the faith. Just a year previously, in 1849, Frederick William Faber had written the rousing hymn Faith of Our Fathers in memory of the Martyrs. Born and raised an Anglican, Faber converted and was ordained a Priest later becoming an Oratorian Father, the congregation founded by St Philip Neri to which St John Henry Newman also belonged. By 1935 nearly two hundred Reformation Martyrs had been beatified, earning the title ‘Blessed’, but only two, John Fisher and Thomas More, had been canonised; both on 19 May 1935 by Pope Pius XI. Following the end of the Second World War, the cause, which had been largely dormant for some years, was gradually revived and, in December 1960, the names of thirty four English and six Welsh Martyrs were submitted to the Sacred Congregation of Rites by Cardinal William Godfrey, Archbishop of Westminster. All of these had been Martyred between 1535 and 1679. The list of names was drawn up in consultation with the Bishops of England and Wales and an attempt was made to ensure the list reflected a spread of social status and religious rank, together with a geographical spread and the existence of a well-established devotion. -
