OVER 50% ABOVE £1800, AS BEESTON KEEPS ON RISING!! The Famous Wright Marshall Mid Month Dairy Cattle Sale including sections for the Western Holstein Club’s Focus Milk pedigree cows and heifers attracted an entry of 261 head. Trade certainly didn’t disappoint with a total of 68 active buyers being recorded, travelling to Beeston from Fife in Scotland to St Austell in Cornwall with 16 different counties represented, along with our loyal and regular support from Cheshire and surrounding counties, all made for a remarkable days trading with all forward finding new homes. MILKING COWS AND HEIFERS Trade continues on an upward curve at Beeston where almost 150 milkers were presented for sale this month by our vendors, both old and new, who travel from all parts of the country to benefit from the good facilities we provide at our centrally located premises in Cheshire. As previously stated the amount of buyers we are able to call upon, for all commodities, is testament to the great choice they get at Beeston, which does not seem to be available anywhere else. The quality on offer this month was tremendous and demand was there from start to finish, with a marked increase once again on the month in the best and middle range heifers and cow trade was off the clock. Heifers were an absolute flyer with over half of the entry selling in excess of £1800 and rising to £2280, with 20 others selling for £2000 or more. The lead price was £2280 for Balcurvie Silver Swallow from Gavin Struthers of Fife for this Altasilver daughter that had calved a month and was sold giving 35 kg to D E Davies, Upper Sarnau, Powys. Next in the pecking order, again from Balcurvie Holstein’s came a BB Toy Missile daughter who was giving 31 kg having calved on the 26th July, purchased by A Vaughan, Llanrhaeadr, Oswestry for £2250. Two others sold for £2200 each, firstly a heifer from J & TJN Platt, Lach Dennis, sired by O Man Kody and giving 30.5 kg having calved three weeks selling to J W Gleave, Sproston, Crewe and secondly once again from M & G Struthers a heifer sired by Kampman, giving 33 kg sold to H V Wright & Son Ltd, Haughton, Cheshire. A further six heifers sold in excess of £2100; firstly at £2180 Lachstone Dalton Penny from J & TJN Platt, three at £2100 Balcurvie Missile Katrine, Balcurvie Pesky Ellen & Balcurvie Topsy Judy all from Gavin Struthers; £2100 for Samlea Zeber Shaz from JJ & GE Eastham, Preston and finally back to Lach Dennis for J & TJN Platt’s Lachstone Theory Kariel. As always the cows are sold first at Beeston and what a trade they proved to be; setting the tone for the day. Topping the trade was a (VG86) daughter of Stantons Steady who had freshened with her second a month ago and giving an impressive yield of 45 kg consigned by L F Horton & Son, Northwich she achieved a bid of £2200 from D & HE Colclough & Son of Hassall, Sandbach. Phillip Gilman’s cattle from Lilleshall, Shropshire are proving to be particularly popular at Beeston firstly selling a third calved cow who had calved two weeks at £2100 to local purchasers BA & AM Charlesworth, Minshull Vernon and secondly from the same home at £2000 Lilleshall Altasamoa Swift 6th who calved her second on the 27th July giving 45 kg travelling to Leicestershire for TG & DM Watchorn Ltd. IN-CALF HEIFERS This part of the Sale contained a superb group of 28 in-calf heifers consigned from a variety of vendors, all selling to a buoyant trade, with anything close to calving selling readily in excess of £1400. Trade topped at £1500 for local vendors CR & GE Pym, Chester being part of an ongoing dispersal; this Lucifer daughter, in-calf to Aberdeen Angus sold to C H Forrester, Wem. £1490 was paid by DR Cantrill, Stafford for a September calving heifer by Bellmount Armani from Billockby Farms Ltd, Norfolk who once again dominated the top prices with their tremendous cattle, with a further 10 animals selling for more than £1400 within this section. MAIDEN HEIFERS There were 80 maidens forward this month, with demand as strong as it has been all summer; anything ready to bull in excess of £800 topping at £860 on three occasions; firstly from R S Home, Wirral and two from Wincham Holsteins Ltd., Northwich. Yearlings from T L Sherwin Ltd, Middlewich attracted plenty of interest with the best topping at £750 for a 12mo heifer sired by a Genus bull. HEIFER CALVES Just ten forward and all babies and they sold very well, all from T L Sherwin Ltd with six selling for more than £300, topping at £350 on four occasions. STOCK BULLS Two forward, a good 23 month old pedigree Simmental from W H I Mellor, Stockport which realised £1800 and a senior Simmental bull from J & S Oakes, Tarporley at £1120. AVERAGES: 41 Cows £1668.95; 63 Pedigree Milking Heifers £1790.65; 38 Unregistered Milking Heifers £1525.53; 28 In-calf and Served Heifers £1262.61; 80 Maiden Heifers £628.25; 10 Heifer Calves £296.00.
