Guide to State Statistical Abstracts Guide to State Statistical Abstracts This bibliography includes the most recent statistical abstracts for states published since 1987 plus those that will be issued in late 1999. For some states, a near equivalent has been listed in substitution for or in addition to a statistical abstract. All sources contain statistical tables on a variety of subjects for the state as a whole, its component parts, or both. The page counts given for publications are approximate. (March 28, 2011) – A new grant from The McGraw-Hill Companies to the National Wildlife Federation (NWF) will launch a textbook recycling program, the first of its kind that engages educational institutions and corporate stakeholders with the aim of reducing waste and promoting sustainable development. NWF’s Eco-Schools USA and Campus Ecology programs will use the one-year grant to: engage NewPage Corporation, one of McGraw-Hill’s paper manufacturers, to de- ink textbook pages so that their paper fiber can be reused in new books; increase awareness of textbook recycling; and conduct further research on the lifecycles and supply chains of textbooks. NWF will pilot the program in the K-12 and higher education sectors in Wisconsin and Minnesota with the goal of eventually extending it to other parts of the country. “This innovative textbook recycling program is a natural fit with National Wildlife Federation’s work to promote business and educational practices that are healthy for our environment,” said Kevin Coyle, NWF’s vice president of Education and Training. “It also aligns with our work on sustainably procured paper, which in part relies on an increased supply of recovered fiber.” Under this grant, NWF will select two undergraduate student fellows from its Campus Ecology program to manage the recycling pilot. The fellows will coordinate textbook recycling events, increase awareness and education about consumption, waste, and the recycling process and expand the reach of NWF’s Eco-Schools USA and Campus Ecology programs.

Net sales were $545 million in the third quarter of 2007 compared to $522 million in the third quarter of 2006, an increase of 4.4%. The increase was driven by favorable coated paper sales volume, partially offset by a decrease in average coated paper prices and a decrease in sales of uncoated paper and market pulp. Coated paper sales volumes increased from 528,000 tons in the third quarter of 2006 to 576,000 tons in the third quarter of 2007. Average coated paper prices decreased from $907 per ton in the third quarter of 2006 to $884 per ton in the third quarter of 2007. The company did not take any market-related downtime for coated paper in the third quarter of 2007 or 2006. Net income was $16 million in the third quarter of 2007 compared to net income of $2 million in the third quarter of 2006. EBITDA was $79 million for the third quarter of 2007 compared to $70 million for the third quarter of 2006. Significant items in 2006 included an unrealized non-cash loss of $2 million for the basket option contract. “With continuing increased input costs, additional industry capacity was closed during the quarter.
