Miracles Masters &Mirth Adventures in Spirituality and Self-Awarenes by Therese Emmanuel Grey Dedication To my husband Brian, for being willing to wrestle with my lesser self and for teaching me how to love. Gnosis The direct experiential knowledge of the supernatural or divine. This is not enlightenment understood in its general sense of insight or learning but enlightenment that validates the existence of the supernatural. He Leadeth Me He leadeth me, O blessed thought! O words with heav'nly comfort fraught! Whate'er I do, where'er I be Still 'tis God's hand that leadeth me. He leadeth me, He leadeth me, By His own hand He leadeth me; His faithful follower I would be, For by His hand He leadeth me. Sometimes mid scenes of deepest gloom, Sometimes where Eden's bowers bloom, By waters still, over troubled sea, Still 'tis His hand that leadeth me. Lord, I would place my hand in Thine, Nor ever murmur nor repine; Content, whatever lot I see, Since 'tis my God that leadeth me. And when my task on earth is done, When by Thy grace the vict'ry's won, E'en death's cold wave I will not flee, Since God through Jordan leadeth me. Joseph H. Gilmore, 1862 28-year-old Baptist minister Gather us in Gather us in, thou Love that fillest all Gather our rival faiths within thy fold Rend every temple-veil, and bid it fall, That we may know that thou hast been of old. Gather us in, we worship only thee. In varied names we stretch a common hand. In differing forms a common soul we see, In many ships we seek one spirit-land. Each sees one colour in thy rainbow light. Each looks upon one tint and calls it heaven. Thou art the fullness of our partial sight. We are not perfect till we find the seven. Some seek a Father in the heavens above. Some ask a human image to adore. Some crave a Spirit vast as life and love. Within thy mansions we have all and more. A spiritual statement of purpose Spiritual resources Mitakuye Oyasin My name is Therese Emmanuel Grey. I am the eldest of a family of seven and today, a mother of four. Our home is in Paradise Valley, Montana. Over the years, I lived many "lives." I have worked in all kinds of jobs, from internships in international business and public affairs to positions in communication and journalism, from waitressing and pizza delivering to camp counseling and personal coaching, and from teaching jobs for adults and children to raising a family and running a home business. Each of these cycles set the stage for the greatest pursuit of all, my search to find God. When I was a young adult, I started to really question life. What was it all about? Why were we here? I knew there had to be a purpose. I believed in God, but I did not want to be confined to a particular religion. It seemed to me that God was big enough for all religious experiences. I started looking for the threads of consciousness that unite Christians, Buddhists, Hindus, Jews and Moslems, as well as the ancient Egyptians and Greeks. In so doing, I discovered mysticism. I continued my quest for truth and the universe responded, powerfully, unequivocally, and compassionately. Still, there were many tests to pass, many trying times, and much soul searching. I came face-to-face with death, with my deepest fears, and with a lot of pain, both emotionally and physically. Looking back on this leg of the journey, I was truly blessed. God never let go of me. Through darkest nights and brightest days, He was there, she was there. Now twenty years later, I have a story to tell. This book is about some of the real, down-to-earth miracles that happened to me. Some were astounding, others more subtle. Each brought me closer to the great, ever-expanding, all-encompassing mystery of love that is God and that thrills my heart and soul. My experiences are, in a sense, not unique. God speaks to each one of us in a very personal way, and everyone I know who has tread the spiritual path also has stories to tell. Still, it is my hope that within these pages, you will find inspiration and a renewed sense of purpose that will accelerate your own path and soul awakening. What is the soul? It is a spherical ovoid of light that enfolds our body as a childlike presence. The soul is separate from our personality and from the identity that we have come to know as "me" and "you." The soul is both familiar and elusive. It simply is. Over the years, God has shown me specific past life records and karmas that my soul has gone through. I can see the learning opportunities that thread each of these lives together and rejoice in the understanding that I am all of these, and none of these, simultaneously. My identity, like yours, is not limited to the roles played in the great drama of life. Neither is it limited to the roles that lie ahead. It resides beyond the veil of human consciousness and form, yet continues to press in, to merge with soul awareness. I am the observer, watching the process unfold, day by day, year by year, through the grace and patience of the hand of God. Why am I here? Why are you here? To graduate from all of these lifetimes, to seal the lessons learned and to give back to life for the opportunity given. This process has been described as the ascension in the mystery schools of old, in the biblical records, as well as in the teachings of Theosophy. Others have walked this path before me, and before you, and have graduated from these halls of learning, often referred to as a "school of hard knocks." At the close of earthly life, their consciousness ascended into higher octaves. The spiritual transformation that they experienced did not cancel out their identity. On the contrary, it crystallized all of the good, all of the love, all of the understanding, constancy, devotion and courage anchored through lifetimes on earth. They became ascended masters, immortals, beings of light with brilliant white auras. The idea of ascended masters is not that "far out" a concept. Ascended masters are spiritual beings like us, who, as author and near-death survivor Dannion Brinkley explains, are evolving in the heaven-world instead of having a human experience. When Jesus went up on a mountain with his disciples Peter, James and John, the ascended masters Moses and Elijah appeared to him and interacted with him. This is recorded in the book of Matthew. My husband Brian, who had a near-death experience as a SIDS baby and two subsequent out-of-body (OBE) experiences when he was twenty-eight, remembers his encounters with the masters and the angels. I also heard another near-death survivor, Betty Eadie, author of Embraced by the Light, explain in an interview that when someone passes away, they are greeted by the master they feel most comfortable with, like Buddha for the Buddhists or Shiva for the Hindus. In her case, Jesus was the master who greeted her "upon arrival." There are as many ascended masters as there are stars in heaven. Some specifically focus their attention and efforts on helping us in our human travails, limited nevertheless by our free will and our returning karma. In my search for God, I came into contact with them through deep striving and communion, as well as through the portals of spiritual initiation. These masters are my friends. I recognize their vibration as clearly as my own reflection when I look in the mirror. I feel their closeness, their love, and their concern. On many occasions, they have interceded in my life in very real, tangible ways. The help, the comfort, the discipline, the correction they afforded me, they would also give you.
