Häuser2, Vo Dinh Ba3, Bui Dinh Duc4 1Vietnam National Museum of Nature, VAST 2Natural History Museum Berlin, Germany 3University of Science, Hue University 4Vietnam National University of Forestry SUMMARY The study on swallowtail butterflies (Papilionidae) of three protected areas of Thua Thien Hue province was carried out sometimes between April and June from 2015 to 2018, at different habitats and altitudes in Bach Ma National Park (NP), Phong Dien Nature Reserve (NR), and Sao La Nature Reserve (NR). Butterflies were observed and collected randomly by insect nets in the surveyed areas. In additional, butterfly species were also referred from previous works on butterflies in the area to make a list of Papilionidae species. The similarity of species composition between three protected areas was analyzed with Cluster Analysis by Primer V5. Total 36 species of the Papilionidae family has been recorded in three protected areas. There are 4 species listed in the Red Data Book of Vietnam (2007): Troides helena, T. aeacus, Teinopalpus aureus, and Papilio noblei. Among them, first three species are listed in the CITES (2018). Teinopalpus aureus is in the Red List of IUCN (2018). The similarity of species composition between protected areas is rather high (67%), highest between Phong Dien NR and Sao Lao NR (69.8%). The species composition of Bach Ma NP is slightly different from Phong Dien NR and Sao La NR as Bach Ma NP has 7 species not found in two other protected areas. -

Khan Department of Zoology, Rajshahi University, Rajshahi 6205, Bangladesh Abstract: The butterflies of the Rajshahi University campus have been collected and identifying since 1991. A total of 88 species under 56 genera and 10 families were identified. The number of identified species and their percentage were recorded family wise as: Nymphalidae (21, 23.86%), Pieridae (20, 22.73%), Papilionidae (13, 14.77%), Danaidae (10, 11.36%), Lycaenidae (9, 10.23%), Satyridae (8, 9.09%), Hespiriidae (4, 4.54%); and those of the families Acraeidae, Amathusidae and Riodinidae (1, 1.14%). Simple Summary: In this study, the mitogenomes of Hestina persimilis and Hestinalis nama were obtained via sanger sequencing. Compared with other mitogenomes of Apaturinae butterflies, conclusions can be made that the mitogenomes of Hestina persimilis and Hestinalis nama are highly conservative. The phylogenetic trees build upon mitogenomic data showing that the relationships among Nymphalidae are similar to previous studies. Observations of Nectaring by Butterflies at Kadoorie Farm & Botanic Garden August 2015 Kadoorie Farm & Botanic Garden Publication Series No. 14 Observation of Nectaring by Butterflies at KFBG, Hong Kong SAR China ABSTRACT Between May and September 2003 a project investigating the nectaring habits of butterflies at the Kadoorie Farm & Botanic Garden, Butterfly Garden was undertaken. The present document is a revision of the earlier internal report and is intended as a reference for butterfly garden management in Hong Kong and the region. Ten plant species were observed being utilized as nectar sources by 31 butterfly species using a point count method. Two plant species present in the garden, Salvia farinacea and Melampodium sp., were not visited as significant nectar sources, nor were they used by butterflies as larval hostplants. It was recommended that these plants be replaced with more attractive nectar source plants. Two butterfly species of conservation concern, Troides helenus and Troides aeacus, used nectar plants, with Agapanthus africanus being strongly preferred by T. helenus. Lantana camara, Agapanthus africanus and Duranta erecta were the most utilized nectar source plants, accounting for 71% of all nectaring observations. Linnaean specimens The UUZM catalogue of type specimens is issued in four parts: 1. C.P.Thunberg (1743-1828), Insecta 2. General zoology 3. Entomology 4. Linnaean specimens (this part) Unlike the other parts of the type catalogue this list of the Linnaean specimens is heterogenous in not being confined to a physical unit of material and in not displaying altogether specimens qualifying as types. Two kinds of links connect the specimens in the list: one is a documented curatorial tradition referring listed material to collections handled and described by Carl von Linné, the other is associated with the published references by Linné to literary or material sources for which specimens are available in the Uppsala University Zoological Museum. The establishment of material being 'Linnaean' or not (for the ultimate purpose of a typification) involves a study of the history of the collections and a scrutiny of individual specimens. An important obstacle to an unequivocal interpretation is, in many cases, the fact that Linné did not label any of the specimens included in the present 'Linnaean collection' in Uppsala (at least there are no surviving labels or inscriptions with his handwriting or referable to his own marking of specimens; a single exception will be pointed out below in the historical survey). A critical examination must thus be based on the writings of Linné, a consideration of the relation between between these writings and the material at hand, and finally a technical and archival scrutiny of the curatorial arrangements that have been made since Linné's time.
