Sometimes it means GetCompassionate Back &In Quality The Care to ConversationHelp You Hear Better helping them with major life changes, like selling their home and moving. Usually, though, it’s about answering all the legal trivia Darcy Repucci, MS,CCC-A questions that seem to have become a regular part of daily life. (508) 936-3277 1 Lumber Street Hopkinton At my seminars I present in the community, people will ask Tues and Wed: 12:30 - 5:30 | Sat: 10 - 3 me about a legal trivia question they have. The question that I get Or By Appointment www.baystateaudiology.com asked most often is: Do I need a will? First, you only really need two legal documents: a Health Care Proxy and a Power of Attorney. The Health Care Proxy assures that, if you are unable to make a medical decision, the person you name as your agent in the Proxy can. The Power of Attorney assures that someone can handle your daily affairs, like signing checks and dealing with others on your behalf. The cost of not having them in an emergency is huge, because the alternative is having a legal guardian or conservator appointed, which costs time and money. Do you need a will? Not necessarily. If Frank and Mary own all their property jointly, then when one dies the other becomes the sole owner, period. If the second one dies without a will, under Massachusetts law all the property would be divided among the children, as long as they were all still alive.

If you have a legal trivia question, you can call me at 508-860-1470 or email me at [email protected].

MEDICARE UPDATES Don’t Wait Until It’s Too Late to change your plans! Medicare Open Enrollment ends December 7th It’s extremely important to review your options EVERY year to make sure you have the plan that works best for you for next year. To best help you compare, you should have a MyMedicare.gov account. If you don’t have one already, you can go to MyMedicare.gov to easily create one, or it can be done at your SHINE appointment. Call your Senior Center and ask for a SHINE appointment. Be sure to bring your Medicare card, any other drug/ health insurance cards and benefit information, and a detailed list of your current prescription drugs to your appointment. Trained SHINE volunteers offer free, confidential counseling on all aspects of health insurance to anyone on Medicare.

Medicare scams are common. • Do not provide your Medicare or Social Security number to anyone, except your trusted medical or SHINE providers. Medicare and Social Security will NOT call you and ask for personal information. • Hang up if anyone calls offering you free products or claiming to be from Medicare to obtain personal information. Beware!

And the Winner Is ... Team Senior Center
