Cracker Barrel Congratulates the Grascals on IBMA Nominations from Their Joint Venture August 25, 2011 Cracker Barrel Congratulates the Grascals on IBMA Nominations from Their Joint Venture Bluegrass Stars Nominated for Multiple Awards, Including "Song of the Year" and "Recorded Event of the Year" for a Song on Their Exclusive Cracker Barrel CD LEBANON, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Cracker Barrel Old Country Store is pleased to congratulate The Grascals for their multiple nominations announced recently by the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA). The acclaimed group has received four nominations, including "Entertainer of the Year," which they have won twice previously, and band member Kristin Scott Benson is up for her fourth Instrumental Performer of the Year (Banjo) award. Cracker Barrel is glad for its small part in the other two nominations The Grascals have received. These are for "Song of the Year" and "Recorded Event of the Year" for the song "I Am Strong," which is on their CD THE GRASCALS & FRIENDS - Country Classics With A Bluegrass Spin, available exclusively at Cracker Barrel Old Country Store® and online at crackerbarrel.com. Cracker Barrel donated a portion of the proceeds from the sale of each CD to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The disc reached the #1 spot on Billboard's Bluegrass Albums Chart, and has held a position on that chart for 27 weeks. "The Grascals are steeped in bluegrass tradition and at the same time are in touch with their contemporary audiences, bringing authenticity as well as freshness to the music," said Marketing Manager Julie Craig. "We have greatly enjoyed working with The Grascals and visiting with them at our Home Office, as well as in all the Cracker Barrel locations they have been to while on tour. They are talented musicians who certainly deserve these honors and more," Craig added. Winners will be announced at IBMA's 22nd annual awards show, scheduled for September 29, 2011 (7:30 p.m. CDT), at Nashville's historic Ryman Auditorium. Cracker Barrel's exclusive music program features numerous projects in addition to this past January's release of The Grascals & Friends - Country Classics With A Bluegrass Spin, which debuted at #1 on Billboard magazine's Bluegrass Albums chart and at #26 on Billboard's Top Country Albums chart. In July of this year, Cracker Barrel released Jason Michael Carroll's Numbers with 11 new songs and one previous hit. An outspoken patriot, beloved mentor to young artists and still a road warrior at age 80, Charlie has parlayed his passion for music into a multi-platinum career and a platform to support the military, underprivileged children and others in need. Raised among the longleaf pines of North Carolina, Charlie began his career playing bluegrass music with the Misty Mountain Boys. After moving to Nashville in 1967, he began making a name for himself as a songwriter, session musician and producer. Elvis Presley recorded a tune Charlie co-wrote titled “It Hurts Me,” which was released on the flip side of “Kissin’ Cousins.” He played on such landmark albums as Bob Dylan’s Nashville Skyline and tried his hand at producing the Youngbloods’ Elephant Mountain and Ride the Wind. His own unique voice as an artist emerged as Charlie recorded his self-titled solo album in 1970 for Capitol Records. Two years later he formed the Charlie Daniels Band and the group scored its first hit with the top ten “Uneasy Rider.” Since then the CDB has populated radio with such memorable hits as “Long Haired Country Boy,” “The South’s Gonna Do It Again,” “In America,” “The Legend of Wooley Swamp” and of course, his signature song, “The Devil Went Down to Georgia,” which won a Grammy for Best Country Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group in 1979 as well as single of the year at the Country Music Association Awards.
