  • Larry Hennig & Harley Race
Larry Hennig & Harley Race Larry "The Axe" Hennig (born June 18, 1936) is an American retired professional wrestler. He is the father of the late "Mr. Perfect" Curt Hennig, the grandfather of Joe "Curtis Axel" Hennig, and is best known for his work in the American Wrestling Association, National Wrestling Alliance and World Wide Wrestling Federation. Hennig was also known for his muscular neck which, to this day, measures 22 inches. Harley Leland Race (born April 11, 1943)[2] is an American former professional wrestler, and current promoter and trainer. During his career as a wrestler, Race worked for all of the major wrestling promotions, including the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA), the American Wrestling Association (AWA), the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE), and World Championship Wrestling(WCW). He held the NWA World Heavyweight Championship seven times, and was the first NWA United States Heavyweight Champion, which is now known as the WWE's United States Championship. Race is one of six men inducted into each of the WWE Hall of Fame, the NWA Hall of Fame, the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame and the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Hall of Fame, and is considered by many past and present fans/wrestlers and promoters as one of the best professional wrestlers of all time. He is highly respected for his toughness and lifelong dedication to the business. After a serious auto accident where Race almost lost his leg and intense physical therapy, he returned to the ring in 1964, wrestling for the Funks' Amarillo, Texas, territory. This time, he wrestled under his own name, after his father told him that he should not work to make anyone else's name famous.

Cubed Circle Newsletter – Payback 2013 In this week’s newsletter we look at the 2013 Payback pay-per-view, as well as the fallout from RAW, the rating that the show did, NXT, a decent edition of iMPACT, All Japan fallout and SmackDown. It is a smaller issue than usual, but fear not! As next week we will be back with a look at Saturday’s New Japan Dominion show, as well as ROH’s Best in the World iPPV. We also have a few big changes coming to the newsletter in the coming months, so stay tuned for that. And with all of that out of the way, I hope that you enjoy the newsletter and have a great week. - Ryan Clingman, Cubed Circle Newsletter Editor News WWE Continue Great Run with Payback The past week and a half or so has been a great period for the WWE from a quality perspective, and they continued that run this week with a their 2013 Payback show from the Allstate Arena in Chicago. Going into the show I wasn’t expecting a blow-away card, but they over delivered with some great moments in front of a crowd that has been arguably one of their most consistently great ones over the past few years. The show was expected to be somewhat of an unnoteworthy show, but the opposite was actually the case, with multiple title changing hands, and seeds for the biggest feud of the summer, Brock Lesnar versus CM Punk, being planted during a great outing between CM Punk and Chris Jericho.

Cubed Circle Newsletter Issue 229 – It's Here Everybody! Say what you will about the build to WrestleMania 32, or even recent WrestleManias in general; I don't think that many would argue with the idea that WrestleMania Weekend is the best time of the year to be a wrestling fan – perhaps only rivalled by the G1 Climax. If you are a fan of professional wrestling there will be something for you to enjoy this weekend, of that you can be sure. We have a light issue for everyone this week, as we get ready for one of our best and biggest issues of the year in our annual WrestleMania issue next week. As always, Ben covers all of the news in the Pro-Wres Digest, as well as coverage of the go-home edition of RAW from Monday night! – Ryan Clingman, Cubed Circle Newsletter Editor The Pro-Wres Digest for March 27th – April 1st. @BenCarass. Top Stories: We unfortunately have some heartbreaking news to start what is the biggest week of the year for pro wrestling, as 32 year-old British wrestler Kris Travis tragically passed away after an 18 month battle with stomach cancer on 31/3. Travis was diagnosed with the disease in October 2014 and had to pull out of the second season of TNA British Bootcamp because of the diagnosis. In 2015 he underwent surgery to remove a tumour and a part of his stomach then went through 18 weeks of intensive chemotherapy, which appeared to put him on the road to recovery. Travis defied all doctors expectations and returned to the ring at a Preston City Wrestling show on August 7th 2015.

  • The Miz Is the Best at What He Does on WWE&Rsquo;S Biggest Stage
The Miz Is The Best At What He Does On WWE’s Biggest Stage Author : David Levin The Miz is proof a wrestler does not need to be part of the main event picture to have a successful career in WWE. The current Intercontinental champion has been doing it better than anybody on Monday night Raw’s roster for years. A combination of solid wrestling and promo work has made him the man to watch. WWE has placed great emphasis on the Universal Heavyweight Title, but the greatness of the 12-year veteran carrying around the white strap has made Monday nights “must see” television. I’ve spoken at length in the past about what a solid performer Mike Mizanin has become. He is every bit as valuable to the WWE roster as Brock Lesnar, Braun Strowman, and Seth Rollins. He is better on the microphone and his ability to work a crowd reminds me of wrestling greats from an era that is sorely missed. His brilliance is magnified given that he no longer has his beautiful wife, Maryse by his side. Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel are the supporting cast that make this old-school angle work. A few years ago, WWE sought Chris Jericho when it needed a veteran to help enhance rising talent. Now that 1 / 2 the greatness if Jericho is no longer a fixture on Monday or Tuesday nights, the company has turned to the next best thing. To take that step further, The Miz’s role is a lot like heel characters of the old NWA.
