Call times will be staggered throughout the performance and will be announced in the weeks leading up to the performances. Toddlers, Circus Kinders, and Fabulous Firsts do not wear makeup. 2 INSTRUCTIONS FOR YOUTH PROGRAM (AGES 6+) The following information applies to ALL students registered in the youth program. If your student is a Toddler, Circus Kinder, or Fabulous First refer to the TD/CK/FF Cheat Sheet later in the packet. COSTUMES AND MASKS When possible, label ALL costume pieces, including shoes and accessories, with the performer’s first initial and full last name. Costumes and costume hangers: Each costume will be labeled on the hanger with the performer’s name and act, and it will be color-coded by performance. After each act, it is the responsibility of the performer to hang their costume on the correct hanger. Please do not put costumes in the lockers or take them home during any part of the show’s run. Hangers are the property of CJ and should NOT be taken home with your costumes. Masks: Student performers will be required to wear masks while backstage and when performing. In an effort to coordinate with costumes, students may choose the specific style recommended for each act or opt for a white or black mask in their preferred style. Information about specific mask colors and/or styles recommended for each act and links for purchase can be found on the mask flyer on the CJ website under Spring Show Announcements. Masks are the responsibility of each individual performer. Students may keep their costume masks in the accessory bag for each costume. Costume repairs: If a costume needs to be repaired, it is the responsibility of the performer to bring their costume to the costume staff. When can costumes be removed from the building? All performers must leave their costumes in the building after the performances. This prevents a performer from accidentally taking someone else’s costume home, and it allows our staff time to organize for pick up. All costumes will be available for pick up in the lobby area Tuesday, May 11, through Friday, May 14. Costumes are moved into storage after the second week of summer session (Saturday, May 29). Shoes: Select acts require shoes and are the responsibility of each individual performer. If shoes are only used for one show team, students can attach them to that costume's hanger in the accessory bag. Students in more than one show team need to make sure they keep their shoes for the next performance. Please wear street shoes and change into performance shoes when you arrive. When and where can I purchase shoes? For shoe ordering requirements, please refer to the spring show shoe flyer on the Spring Show Announcements tab in the Family Portal of the CJ website (copies are also available at the front desk). Shoes should be purchased well before show time; the discount at Grand Jete is only available until Saturday, April 3. Fishnets and accessories: Select acts require fishnets. Fishnets will be in the accessory bag for each costume that requires them. CJ will provide fishnets, and they do not need to be purchased. 3 !!! VOLUNTEERING !!! Without our family volunteers, the show simply can’t go on! Our performances would not be possible without our FAMILYVOLUNTEERS! The Spring Celebration Performances require around 600 volunteer shifts over the course of two weeks. This year, more than ever, it is imperative that we have enough volunteers to keep our students (and audience members) safe and healthy. Please consider signing up for a show in which your student is NOT performing. This will allow volunteers to focus on their jobs throughout the entire show. BONUS- by volunteering for a different show, you are enabling another parent to watch their student from the audience or manage their own student’s arrival and departures. PLEASE CONSIDER SIGNING UP TODAY! Our SignUp Genius page will go live after the family meeting! The link to sign up will be sent via email. For more information, please contact Becky at [email protected]. Students choosing to wear makeup must arrive already in makeup. Video tutorials and information about where to purchase makeup will be disseminated in early April. Students wearing makeup MUST follow these tutorials! If a student arrives with a makeup look that does not adhere to the tutorial provided, they will be asked to remove the makeup prior to performing. Hair: Plan to have your performer arrive with their hair done. Long hair needs to be pulled back. (Ponytails, buns, or braids work well.) We do NOT have volunteers to help with hair. Personal items and backstage procedures: Students should be prepared to occupy themselves quietly backstage. Items can be misplaced easily, so please send along necessary items only. • Bring quiet activities such as quiet games, books, and homework. • Leave valuable or special items at home! We do NOT recommend bringing items such as iPads, hand- held game consoles, or treasured items such as stuffed animals backstage. • Wi-Fi will be unavailable for the duration of the show, please keep this in mind when planning backstage activities. • Cell phones must be silenced backstage! Cover-Up: Every performer must have a costume cover-up (oversized black T-shirt to wear over costumes). This cover-up should be worn at all times except when performing, during which time it should be stored in the performer’s bag. Please label the tag with the performer’s first initial and last name. Food and water bottles: Plan to eat before arriving at circus – no food deliveries are allowed to CJ during tech/dress rehearsals OR shows.
