And what “hits” is he talking about? I can think of, um, one maybe? CANT, this is supposed to be a comment page for the album(Which you obviously haven’t listened to), not an ” I am truly too cool to listen to them”. Maybe not a Chart topping album of number ones, but a great combination of good music off his albums. “American Poser” I think not. Get over yourself, and review “EYEHATEGOD”, or somebody you are familiar with. For those that know who Daughtry is, this is an excellent listen, and don’t hesitate to pick it up. Break the Spell. On the verge of succumbing completely to workingman's boredom on their 2009’s sophomore set Leave This Town, DAUGHTRY snap back to life with 2011’s Break the Spell. Working once again with producer Howard Benson, a collaborator since the early days when it wasn’t clear whether Chris Daughtry’s charms would translate outside of American Idol, DAUGHTRY add color back into their desaturated post-grunge, embracing their lineage as radio-ready rockers. Often, Break the Spell harks back to the glory days of the late ‘80s, when rockers played golden gods all for the sake of video cameras, secure in the knowledge that heavy rotation on MTV and AOR radio would shift millions of CDs. So it is with Break the Spell: there’s a candied confidence to DAUGHTRY’s swagger, they’re unconcerned with sobriety, they’re happy to have their riffs over-muscled, happy to have every speckle of their production sparkle. It’s still loud music -- both by design and brickwalled mastering -- but Daughtry has softened his defining trait as a rocker: he’s dampened his dourness, choosing to dabble in levity at least as far as surface sonics are concerned. It’s hard to imagine the Daughtry of 2006 acquiescing to the disco-rock on the syncopated stomp “Outta My Head” but here it’s part of a record colored by shellacked harmonies -- arriving via vocals and six-strings -- ambient echoes, and acoustics, all working in service of melody, not brawn. It’s as if DAUGHTRY believe they’ve earned their rock & roll stripes so they no longer need to prove that they’re for real -- they can just ease into the role of sugary arena rockers that they’ve always been destined to be. Abbey Road (Super Deluxe Edition) Fifty years ago, on 3 July 1971, Jim Morrison died mysteriously in a Parisian bathtub, survived by his three partners: Ray Manzarek, Robby Krieger and John Densmore, who had worked tirelessly for six years to translate his dreams into music. Here we take a look back at a record whose history is as complex as its content. The Beatles' legendary "White Album", which was their only double album, is now more than 50 years old. The more time that goes by since Frank Zappa’s passing on December 4, 1993, the more his absence is cruelly felt in the music world. It's not that we have forgotten him, but we have been searching in vain for someone to fill his boots. Frank Zappa’s genius, both cosmic and comical, has no equivalent today, this is because no one, in almost three decades, has been able to combine such a high level of musical talent with such a brilliant sense of humor. Something Zappa did so well..

Additional Praise for Breaking the Spell: Religion as a Natural Phenomenon "Breaking the Spell continues to spark controversy with its Darwinian take on the all-too-human urge to believe.. .. Dawkins, Dennett, and Harris argue that religious beliefs, particularly those derived literally and selectively from religious texts, can lead to behavior that is dubi ously moral according to more universal principles of right and wrong. The killing of innocents in the name of holy war is only the most obvious instance. Dennett extends a conciliatory hand to believers so long as they are willing to subject any purportedly God- given moral edict 'to the full light of reason, using all the evidence at our command.'" — U.S. News & World Report "Rich and rewarding.. .the main business of the book is to give a sci entific account of how religion may have developed among creatures such as us... Dennett here does an admirable job of dismantling the common (yet almost never argued for) prejudice that those who be lieve in the supernatural have some sort of moral superiority." —San Francisco Chronicle "In Breaking the Spell, the blasting rhetoric of Dawkins and Harris is absent, replaced by provocative, often humorous examples and thought experiments." —Wired "Mr. Dennett's main argument is that religious belief—especially in the United States—is often sheltered from the cut and thrust of intel lectual argument and scientific scrutiny, and it should not be." —The Economist "Dennett describes the various stages of the long historical evolution of religion, beginning with primitive tribal myths and rituals, and ending with the market driven evangelical megachurches of modern America.

  • Breaking the Spell
Praise for Breaking the Spell “Christopher Robé’s meticulously researched Breaking the Spell traces the roots of contemporary, anarchist-inflected video and Internet activism and clearly demonstrates the affinities between the anti-authoritarian ethos and aesthetic of collectives from the ’60s and ’70s—such as Newsreel and the Videofreex—and their contemporary descendants. Robé’s nuanced perspective enables him to both celebrate and critique anarchist forays into guerrilla media. Breaking the Spell is an invaluable guide to the contempo- rary anarchist media landscape that will prove useful for activists as well as scholars.” —Richard Porton, author of Film and the Anarchist Imagination “Breaking the Spell is a highly readable history of U.S. activism against neo- liberal capitalism from the perspective of ‘Anarchist Filmmakers, Videotape Guerrillas, and Digital Ninjas,’ the subtitle of the book. Based on ninety interviews, careful readings of hundreds of videos, and his own participant observation, Robé links the development of better-known video makers such as Videofreex, Paper Tiger Television, ACT UP and Indymedia with activist media makers among key protest movements, such as the League of Revolutionary Black Workers in Detroit, Oregon’s Cascadia Forest Defenders, the day workers of Voces Mobiles/Mobile Voices in Los Angeles, and the indigenous youth in Outta Your Backpack Media. Underscored by significant tensions of class, race/ethnicity, and gender among the groups and the videos discussed, Robé traces the continuing concerns

The wolf did not sneak up on me. There was no snatching the floor out from under me or tossing me into the darkness at random. That is not how the wolf operates. I was sitting in the living room, Bea’s head on my lap, Marceline lounging upside down on a nearby chair, Peridot assembling a new kind of Kamen Rider belt, and we were all watching Down Periscope. The crew was in the middle of singing Louie Louie when the hairs on the back of my neck stood up. All at once. A low growl cut through the air. The boards above our heads creaked as something started walking down the hallway towards the stairs. Each of us turned to stare, frozen in place despite ourselves. All our powers and we were simple deer for the form padding down the stairs. It had no shape beyond darkness. Nothing to see besides burning eyes and glittering teeth. It was a cloud of predatory instinct made manifest. No… no that wasn’t quite it. My mind simply refused to take in its actual shape, to see what it actually was. It was protecting itself the only way it knew how. By blotting out the details. “Run.” Growled the voice. Blood leaked from between those teeth as if it had killed only moments before. Red droplets fell onto the floor and the wall as it spoke. “Run and I will chase. Fight and you will earn another breath. Kill… and you will be worthy of surviving.” There was no arguing with those words.
