National Pony Society Supreme Dressage Championship 2019/2020 NATIONAL PONY SOCIETY SUPREME DRESSAGE CHAMPIONSHIP 2019/2020 This competition was introduced to encourage both performance and education of British bred ponies and their riders. Qualifiers will run from the 1st of April 2019 through to 31st March, 2020 and culminate in the NPS/FIONA CORK SADDLES Supreme Dressage Championship Final to be held at the prestigious show venue Addington Manor Equestrian Centre, Addington, Buckinghamshire In April 2020 British Dressage Tests Prelim 7 & Novice 24 will be used for all qualifiers. Each test will consist of the following six sections all of which will have their own Final:- 1. Registered Mountain & Moorland breeds not exceeding 138cm 2. Registered Mountain & Moorland breeds exceeding 138cm 3. Registered British Riding Ponies 4. Part Bred Horses/Ponies registered with their appropriate Native Breed Part Bred Stud Book – including Part Bred Arab ponies over stamped in the British Riding Pony Stud book and ponies registered with the British Sports Pony Stud Book. Please note Part Bred Native ponies and Sports ponies over stamped within the British Riding Pony & Stud Book may only compete in one section per season. 5. Highest placed Mini rider aged under 12 years on 1st January 2019 6. Highest placed Junior rider under 18 years on 1st January 2019 The two highest placed ponies in each section at each qualifying show will qualify for the 2020 Final and also be eligible to be chosen to represent their Breed, NPS Area or other team in the Team Challenge which will be incorporated into the 2020 Championship Final. Qualifying rounds are open to competitors from the UK and elsewhere. All qualifiers will receive a qualification card, The Final will run in accordance with the 2019/2020 NPS Dressage Rules which will be available to all NPS Members. Copyright .All Rights Reserved 2019 Horse/ponies must be ridden at the Final by the qualifying rider. You must be fully paid up Dressage, Qualifying or Life members of the NPS for 2020 in order to compete at the Final. At the Final the winners of each section for each Test will be invited to perform a 5 minute Freestyle to Music for the judging of the Overall NPS Supreme Dressage titles. Ponies may only compete in this section once even if they have won both their Preliminary & Novice section Finals. NPS – Team Challenge A Team Challenge is incorporated in the 2020 Championship Final. Each Team to comprise four ponies and riders who have qualified for any section of the NPS Supreme Dressage Championships 2019/2020. All four Team Ponies scores to count. Each Pony & Rider combination may only compete for one Team. There will be both Preliminary & Novice Team Championships plus overall Supreme Team awards for Teams competing in both Tests. Affiliation - No show affiliation fee will be charged for 2019/2020 qualifiers. Requests for qualifiers are welcomed from NPS Areas, Breed/Show Societies, Pony Club Branches , Riding Clubs & Competition Centers in the UK and Europe. Qualifiers should be run under British Dressage rules wherever possible. All qualifying shows are requested to use BD list Judges if possible. British Dressage Tests Prelim 7 & Novice 24 to be used for all qualifiers. Shows are requested to offer all 6 sections qualifications but exceptions will be considered for approval by the Dressage Working Group.     List of horse breeds 1 List of horse breeds This page is a list of horse and pony breeds, and also includes terms used to describe types of horse that are not breeds but are commonly mistaken for breeds. While there is no scientifically accepted definition of the term "breed,"[1] a breed is defined generally as having distinct true-breeding characteristics over a number of generations; its members may be called "purebred". In most cases, bloodlines of horse breeds are recorded with a breed registry. However, in horses, the concept is somewhat flexible, as open stud books are created for developing horse breeds that are not yet fully true-breeding. Registries also are considered the authority as to whether a given breed is listed as Light or saddle horse breeds a "horse" or a "pony". There are also a number of "color breed", sport horse, and gaited horse registries for horses with various phenotypes or other traits, which admit any animal fitting a given set of physical characteristics, even if there is little or no evidence of the trait being a true-breeding characteristic. Other recording entities or specialty organizations may recognize horses from multiple breeds, thus, for the purposes of this article, such animals are classified as a "type" rather than a "breed". The head should be set on a well defined gullet. NECK: Neck should be slightly crested with good length of rein and no sign of coarseness. SHOULDERS: Shoulders should slope back to well defined withers. The shoulders should show no trace of heaviness or coarseness and the chest should be neither too narrow nor too wide. BACK: Back should be strong and the loins well coupled with deep girth and well ribbed. HIND QUARTERS: The hind quarters should be well rounded and showing good proportionate length of croup. TAIL: The tail should be well set on, perfectly straight and gaily carried. LEGS: Bone should be quite flat, showing strength without coarseness. Joints should be well shaped and proportionate to the pony. Cannon bones should be short and straight and pasterns of moderate slope and with proportionate length. HOOVES: The hooves should be strong, neat and well shaped. GAIT: Action should be smooth showing free flexion of joints without exaggeration. The stride should be of good length, straight and true. GENERAL: The pony should have good presence and should show quality, character, alertness and good ground coverage. The feet should be well placed, standing square and true.     We are delighted to have received so much support in the Equine section for the 2021 Show. The equine exhibitor packs will be sent out in early July. Please find the list of entries per class. We would strongly advise that you do not plan your day based on these figures, as some entries may not come forward. If a class is not well supported on the day for any reason, the Judge cannot wait – they will just continue to judge the other classes in the section. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Please note, there is a change to the Timetable in regard to the M&M Lead Rein & First Ridden section. They are still being held in the Ridings Ring on Thursday but will now start at 12.30pm instead of the previously scheduled time. Origins: The horse is one of the oldest domesticated animals of ancient times. We begin our look at the horse not from the beginning of time, but from the time right before domestication took place. If you are curious about the origins of the horse, you can do a literary search of these early horse species from the scientific group Condylarth: Eohippus, Mesohippus, Miohippus, Pliohippus, and Equus Caballus. Special Mention: It is worth knowing that Equus Caballas did exist on the American continent in the Ice Age, but migrated to Europe and Asia from existing land bridges from glaciers. These glaciers melted, trapping the predecessor of the horse in the European and Asian continents, and the Equus Caballas remaining on the American Continent, went extinct. From Equus Caballas, we come across two types of breeding: Natural Selection: ‘Survival of the fittest’ - environment dictated survival. Viability of animal genes depended on environment. These animals are built to survive. Artificial Selection: Survival based on human intervention - humans decided which traits to breed for, and did not allow breeding between ‘less superior’ animals. These animals are bred to work. Our modern horses come almost exclusively from artificially selected means. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ From Equus Caballas, 3 ancient horse breeds developed, which became the foundation of breeding stock for ages to come: 1) The Asiatic Wild Horse These horses were discovered in 1881 by Poliakov as a wild Mongolian horse herd.
