(329) WORCESTERSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL Common Land and Town or Village Greens; Provisional Registrations and how to object to them Notice is hereby given that the first period for applications for the registration under the above Act of: (a) land which is common land or a town or village green; (b) rights of common over such land ; and (c) persons, claiming to be owners of such land ; ended on the 30th June 1968. The Council is the Registration Authority for the registration area described at Annexe "A" below. The Registers of Common land and town or village greens for this registration area, containing all registrations so far made are available free of charge at The Shirehall, Worcester, between the hours of 9 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays to Fridays, except on Bank Holidays. Brief particulars of registrations are given at Annexe " B " below. In addition each Borough, District and Parish Council has for inspection copies of registrations affecting land in its own area. The Second Registration period began on the 1st July 1968 and will end on the 2nd January 1970. During the second period applications may be made for the registration of land as common land or as a town and village green, of rights of common over such land, and of claims to ownership thereof, but a fee of five pounds will normally be payable.     Hodnet Community Led Five Year Plan 2016 - 2020 1. INTRODUCTION 1.1 Use of the term “Hodnet” in the Plan. The Hodnet Community Led Plan includes Hodnet together with Marchamley, Wollerton and Peplow. Whenever this plan alludes to "Hodnet" it is intended to represent all the communities within the parish and is used for the sake of brevity. 1.2 Relationship between the Community Led Plan and the SAMDEV. The Shropshire Site Allocations and Development Management (SAMDEV) Plan sets out the proposals for the use of land and policies to guide future development for the period up to 2026. The SAMDEV Plan has been through an exhaustive consultation process and is in the fina l stages of acceptance as the principal means to deliver the vision and objectives of the Shropshire Core Strategy. Hodnet is included in the SAMDEV where it sets out the additional development planned to 2026, the site allocations and the development bo undaries. The Hodnet Community Led Plan will provide additional detail that combined with the SAMDEV and the Core Strategy will collectively represent the development plan for determining planning applications. The criteria laid down for the development of Neigh b ourhood Development Plans are very strict and complex, and in view of this, Shropshire Council is also promoting the development of robust Community Led Plans as an acceptable and viable alternative. While the Community Led Plan does not represent a Neighbourhood Plan under the provisions of the Localism Act; Shropshire County Council has recognised that the Community Led Plan may be adopted by as additional detail to be incorporated into the formal planning process.

    Wellington Remembers 1914–1918 142 22353 Private Thomas Henry Pye King’s Shropshire Light Infantry Born on 28 July 1892 in Marchamley, Shropshire Lived in Nordley, Astley Abbotts, Bridgnorth Died on 25 March 1916 aged 23 in Shropshire Buried at All Hallows Churchyard, Rowton, Shropshire His story Thomas Henry Pye was the only child of Thomas and Elizabeth (née Wellings) Pye, who had married at Stanton upon Hine Heath, near Shawbury, on 20 May 1888. He was born in Marchamley on 28 July 1892, and when Elizabeth registered his birth she gave Thomas’ occupation as a gamekeeper. In 1901 the family was living at Astley Abbotts near Bridgnorth where Thomas was still working as a gamekeeper. Thomas Henry seems to have been known as Henry, presumably to diff erentiate him from his father. His birthplace is given as Hodnet, a parish in North Shropshire that incorporates the village of Marchamley. Ten years later, when the 1911 census was taken, the family was in the same home, and still had the same neighbours. Thomas was working as a jobbing rabbit catcher and young Thomas Henry was employed as an assistant gardener. We know that Thomas Henry enlisted into 9th Battalion King’s Shropshire Light Infantry in Bridgnorth sometime after October 1915 and was issued with the service number 22353. It appears that he spent his army career training in the UK, as record of soldiers’ eff ects tells us that he had no overseas service. Thomas Henry died of pneumonia in the military hospital at Prees Heath on 25 March 1916 after less than six months in the army.

    James Perry – A Late Victorian and Edwardian Shropshire Policeman Researched and written by Andrew Coles By the time that James Perry first became a police constable, Shropshire policing had already been established for about 40 years. Administration was split into two, with on the one hand the borough police forces; and on the other the county constabulary. The borough forces were established in the main population areas of Shrewsbury, Bridgnorth, Oswestry and Ludlow. The county constabulary oversaw policing across the rest of the more rural parts of Shropshire. Early Life James Perry was born in 1861, approximately 3 months prior to the 1861 census in the rural parish of Preston Gubbals, a few miles immediately north of Shrewsbury in Shropshire. Since the parish is made of several hamlets, it is unclear exactly which one James was born. Both Bomere Heath and Leaton have claim, but the most likely is Leaton as his baptismal record (13th January 1861) has Leaton as residence. His parents were Jonathan and Ann Perry. Jonathan is listed as a retired soldier on the baptism record, but died around about the same time as James was born, as Ann is a widow by the time of the next census. He had probably been retired for some time as he is listed in the 1851 census as a ‘pensioner agricultural labourer’. By the time of the next census in 1871 Ann Perry was listed as remarried to a John Coldwell in Bomere Heath, and like Jonathan Perry he was also an agricultural labourer. At this point James is at school and how much influence ‘step-father’ John Coldwell had on his future career as he grew up, is impossible to gauge.
