Congratulations to all the winners of the Men’s Golf Club Championships and to our 2020 Club Champion ,Travis Merritt. The Ladies Golf Club Championship hadn’t started before the border closure so have been postponed to a date to be advised. Our AGM is currently scheduled for Monday 31st August at 6pm. As previously communicated by email to members, in-person pre-polling for members who will be unable to attend the AGM is planned to open on Tuesday 25th August. Details will be forthcoming along with copies of the Annual Report. It is also great to see the bowlers back in the swing or should I say on a roll again, and croquet being played daily in some cases to give everyone the opportunity to play a game. We’re looking for volunteers to assist with the organisation of our next season of Charity Bowls. This commences in Spring with some preparation needed before the season re-commences. Melba passed away recently, but she will always be with us and we are thankful for the foundations she laid for us. Congratulations go to two staff members who have recently welcomed a baby into their family. Paul and Shandell welcomed Ella Rose on Thursday 4th June at 1:35pm, weighing 3kgs. Jamee and Grant welcomed Colton Francis on Friday 10th July at 4:05pm, weighing 3.43kg. Both Ella and Colton and mums Shandell and Jamee are doing well. Take care and Stay Safe.     Victorian Heritage Database place details - 1/10/2021 Swan Hill Lift Bridge Location: Swan Hill Road,, SWAN HILL VIC 3585 - Property No B6941 Heritage Inventory (HI) Number: Listing Authority: HI Extent of Registration: Statement of Significance: The Swan Hill Bridge is historically, scientifically, socially and aesthetically significant at State level. It is composed of a central steel lift span, flanked by large timber through-truss spans and with timber-beam approach spans at either end. When built in 1896 it represented the very latest and most sophisticated Australian design, both in its lift-span technology and its Allan trusses. Designed by the leading Sydney bridge engineer, Percy Allan, it was built by the prolific Victorian bridge-building firm of Farquharson, which constructed numerous well-known large river bridges: Chinaman's Bridge and the old Seymour highway bridge that still span the Goulburn River, a series of Murray River bridges including superb existing lift-span and/or timber-truss bridges at Swan Hill, Tocumwal, Cobram and Howlong, and the now-relocated Darlington Point bascule bridge of 1905. The firm also built numerous other big Victorian and New South Wales river bridges that no longer exist, including the second Union Bridge at Albury and the old Tintaldra truss bridge. The Swan Hill lift-span and through-truss bridge of 1896 represented an especially important achievement for both Percy Allan and the Farquharsons. This was one of the earliest bridges to be built to Allan's innovative ninety-feet timber-truss design of 1893, which would be replicated all over New South Wales.
