For a long time, it has been the residence of medieval Croatian dynasties, whose splendor is still visible in the old town. During the day, life mainly takes place on the beaches and the harbor prome- nade, in the evening the bustle shifts to the promenade of the old town. Numerous shops, restaurants, cafes, bars and ice cream parlors await the tourists. Biograd is a popular port of departure in the heart of Dalmatia. The Pasman Canal and the islands of Pasman and Uglijan, as well as the beautiful world of the Kornati Islands are right on the doorstep. MURTER Jezera, Murter and the bays Murter is also called the gateway to the Kornati, but the peninsula itself has also a lot to offer. The starting port Jezera is a lovely little place with a nice beach, shops, restaurants and bars. -

Abstract The vegetation of the north-eastern Adriatic island of Olib (26.13 km2) was studied in 2015. From a total of 99 phytosociological relevés, 33 floristi- cally and ecologically distinctive vegetation communities were identified and described (30 associations and 3 stands) within 28 alliances, 27 orders and 23 vegetation classes. Altogether, 18 NATURA 2000 habitat types were recognized. The study revealed the great phytocoenotic diversity and the high biogeographical value of the study area. Biodiversity of the Water Reservoirs in the Vicinity of Usje Marl Quarry S.Petkovski, (1); I.Mastoris, (2); N.B.Kormusoska, (3); (1) NGO BIOECO Skopje, Republic of Macedonia (2) TITAN Cement Company S.A., Athens, Greece (3) Cementarnica “Usje” A.D., Skopje, Republic of Macedonia [email protected] Abstract In line with the activities of WBCSD/CSI task force on biodiversity, Titan uses specific tools for screening Group quarries versus areas of high biodiversity value, like the EMERALD network of Macedonia. The water reservoirs (artificial lakes) inside the Usje Marl Quarry, in proximity with the Titan Cement Plant Usje (Skopje, Macedonia), were gradually ‘formed’ in the 1980’s, after excavating closed pits inside the mine plan area. Freshwater supply to these confined water bodies is due to precipitation and surface rainwater inflows. Plant and animal species have inhabited the area, including the lakes, by natural processes, except the fish stocking that was made by the sport fishermen employed with Usje. Currently, the area more or less resembles a natural wetland ecosystems. By initiative of Usje, and in line with Titan’s Corporate Social Responsibility Policy, an Investigation Study on Hydrology, Hydrogeology & Biodiversity was conducted. This paper is going to present findings and recommendations of the investigation related to biodiversity. Besides the check lists of recorded species, for certain taxonomic groups a “potential list of species” was prepared, as a tool for evaluation of the quality of habitats. Despite the inevitable environmental degradation, the degree to which the terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems and associated species have survived, even in a modified and reduced state, is surprising. -

UNJE The small island of Unje is strikingly green and wildly overgrown with sage, rockro- se, laurel, lavender, rosemary and thyme. Especially in spring it smells wonderful. The few inhabitants live in the only town, their houses are aligned circularly towards the sea. Trails lead across the entire island and to the two lighthouses. Susak Susak is a small, gently rolling island with only 3.7 km². In Susak time seems to have stood still. The streets are lined with flowering shrubs and well maintained. The island has great sandy coves. It is best to anchor in Porat or to moor in the harbor of Susak. -

However, in spite of a long interest encompassing more than a hundred years, numerous gaps remain in our herpetological knowledge. For this reason, the author wished to contribute to a better understanding by performing studies outlined below. Aims The first task was to map the distribution of amphibians and reptiles inhabiting the archipelago as data were lacking for several of the smaller islands and also the fauna of the bigger islands was insufficiently known. Subsequently, the faunistic information derived from the scientific literature and field surveys conducted by the author as well as available geological and paleogeological data were compared and analysed from a zoogeographic point of view. The author wished to identify regions of the islands boasting the greatest herpetofaunal diversity by creating dot maps based on collecting localities. To answer the question which snake species and which individuals are going to be a victim of the traffic snake roadkill and literature survey were used. The author also identified where are the areas where the most snakes are hit by a vehicle on Cres. By gathering road-killed snakes and comparing their locality data with published occurrences the author seeked to identify species most vulnerable to vehicular traffic and road sections posing the greatest threat to snakes on Cres Island. -

Hrvatski jadranski otoci, otočići i hridi Sika od Mondefusta, Palagruţa Mjerenja obale istoĉnog Jadrana imaju povijest; svi autori navode prvi cjelovitiji popis otoka kontraadmirala austougarske mornarice Sobieczkog (Pula, 1911.). Glavni suvremeni izvor dugo je bio odliĉni i dosad još uvijek najsustavniji pregled za cijelu jugoslavensku obalu iz godine 1955. [1955].1 Na osnovi istraţivanja skupine autora, koji su ponovo izmjerili opsege i površine hrvatskih otoka i otoĉića većih od 0,01 km2 [2004],2 u Ministarstvu mora, prometa i infrastrukture je zatim 2007. godine objavljena opseţna nova graĊa, koju sad moramo smatrati referentnom [2007].3 No, i taj pregled je manjkav, ponajprije stoga jer je namijenjen specifiĉnom administrativnom korištenju, a ne »statistici«. Drugi problem svih novijih popisa, barem onih objavljenih, jest taj da ne navode sve najmanje otoĉiće i hridi, iako ulaze u konaĉne brojke.4 Brojka 1244, koja je sada najĉešće u optjecaju, uopće nije dokumentirana.5 Osnovni izvor za naš popis je, dakle, [2007], i u graniĉnim primjerima [2004]. U napomenama ispod tablica navedena su odstupanja od tog izvora. U sljedećem koraku pregled je dopunjen podacima iz [1955], opet s obrazloţenjima ispod crte. This study is also the first to provide estimates of demogra- phic parameters, detectability and vagility of the Iolas blue. Weekly count surveys performed on 38 host plant plantation patches resulted in an occupancy rate of 50 % with mostly very low relative abundance indices. Habitat analysis demonstrated that abundance was best explained by the combination of para- meters among which host plant vitality, patch connectivity, solar irradiations and the number of host plant seedlings were prominent. Capture-mark-recapture experiments undertaken in four populations revealed large differences in absolute abundance, an average adult life expectancy of 3.6 days and a very high catchability (82 %) and individual detectability (86 %). Furthermore, a dispersal analysis demons- trated that 78 % of dispersal events were less than 550 m (maximum of 1490 m), with significantly more dispersal in females (both in dispersal rates and dispersal distances). -
