2011 Reunion Recap 2011 Reunion Recap by Alice Chan (Hotel '01) The 2011 Cornell Reunion came to a close this past weekend. All the classes ending with 1s and 6s celebrated their 5th, 10th, 25th, 50th, and 80th reunions. From Reunion class zero (Class of 2011) all the way to Reunion 80th Class all were present. Two members of the Class of 1931 celebrated their 80th reunion on campus. This is a true demonstration of the Big Red Spirit that stays with us throughout our lives. This year close to 7,000 alumni and family attended the reunion- the second- highest reunion attendance at Cornell.

Everyone kicked off their reunion weekend with a class registration at their designated spot, and mine was at Risley Hall. Arriving at Ithaca by car, as I passed by Collegetown bagels, Buffalo Street, and ending at Tower road, it seemed like school was just yesterday. Ithaca was as gorgeous as ever, instead of snow and sleet, the campus was filled with sunshine and a light breeze. The roads and buildings were where they always had been, but now were neighbored by quite a number of newly built infrastructure and extensions. These new glass-wrapped developments stood out from the rest of the brick wall architectural facade, from the engineering quad and the Statler Extension on Central Campus, all the way from CALS to North Campus.

Friday was a relaxing day as people slowly settled in. The night ended with a glee club concert at Bailey Hall and an all-alumni event at the Arts Quad where you could see more of the younger alumni catching up and drinking beers on the Arts Quad. Saturday started bright and early as I kicked off the day with breakfast with the Dean of Hotel School and a brief tour around the premises. It was not until I noticed all the new additions, from campus-wide wireless internet to televised lecture halls. Throughout the weekend the main events were captured with live streaming on Facebook, this is a real illustration of how digital media has changed interaction between the school, students and alumni. Around noon time President Skorton delivered his informative yet light hearted speech as he tried to update all alumni with the school's developments and changes. After that I took the liberty of climbing up to the bell tower and managed to capture a series of photographs on the top overlooking Cayuga lake, , the Johnson School, Olin Hall and the Arts Quad. An Ithaca trip would never be complete without visiting the plantations, Wegmans, and the Buttermilk Falls. Taking a quick scenic road trip around campus and the surrounding area, time flew by in a glance. My class dinner took place at Robert Purcell Community Center (formerly known as RPU). It was a dressed-up version of a Cornell dining hall experience and we took our meals on white tablecloths with red napkins. Last but not least a great way to end the weekend was attending the Night where Chris Marshall delivered his humorous and memorable closing remarks, a brilliant performance of the Glee Club, the Chorus and the Hangovers. The music groups were all a combination of current students and Alumni from different reunion classes. All Cornellians joined together to sing and cheered as we all remembered songs of Cornell. Short yet memorable, the weekend was a great reminder of the fun and spirited schoolmates we always had and the bonding that brings all Cornellians together. GO BIG RED! I am sure there will be many more amazing reunion stories to share in the years to come.
