E-Distribuţie Companies – 51 Million Euros Investment in Smart Meter Programme in Romania During 2015-2020 Media Relations T +40 372 115 694 F +40 372-87.33.42 [email protected] e-distributie.com E-DISTRIBUŢIE COMPANIES – 51 MILLION EUROS INVESTMENT IN SMART METER PROGRAMME IN ROMANIA DURING 2015-2020 • By the end of 2020, almost 900,000 customers of the Enel Group’s Romanian distribution companies will have smart meters • This year’s smart meter project will involve an investment of over 56 million lei (approximately 12 million euros) • During 2015–2020 the investment made by the distribution companies, part of Enel Group in Romania, in the smart meter programme reaches 51 million euros (app. 240 million lei) Bucharest, 7 iulie, 2020 – By the end of 2020, almost 900,000 customers of the Romanian distribution companies of the Enel Group, a world leader and pioneer in the smart meter technology, will benefit from the smart meter technology, while the investment since 2015 reaches approximately 51 million euros (approximately 240 million lei). This year E-Distribuție Muntenia, Dobrogea and Banat will install over 170,000 new smart meters in the areas where they operate, for an investment of over 56 million lei (approximately 12 million euros). The E-Distributie companies are the largest operator in Romania by the total number of smart meters installed so far. “The customer’s needs are at the very core of the energy transition. In order to empower him to do more with the energy he uses the smart meter is mandatory, while digitalization have proven to be of utmost importance during the last months, as we all had to adapt to a new paradigm. The energy transition promotes the development of sustainable, efficient energy systems and clean energy, while the smart meter is the most important brick in the foundation of the future digital grids. Therefore, leveraging on the wide experience of Enel Group, we continue with our ambitious plan of digitalizing Romania, by installing smart meters to our entire customers base. In 5 years, we already invested approximately 184 million lei in developing the smart grid in the areas where we operate.” said Gino Celentano, General Manager E- Distributie Banat, E-Distributie Dobrogea and E-Distributie Muntenia. The smart meter installation programme will be rolled-out according to the plan approved by the National Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE). The investment in smart meter roll out is part of the digitalization strategy of the grid, along with the investment in integrating transformer posts and substations in the telecontrol system. The roll out plan follows five previous projects, which involved the installation of over 700,000 smart meters and is part of the Enel Group’s strategy to implement smart meter technology among its 2.9 million electricity distribution customers in Romania. Over 170,000 additional customers will benefit from the advantages brought by the smart meter, such as allowing remote meter readings, which replace the field readings and consumption estimates, and giving customers greater insight into their effective energy consumption profile, promoting their active participation in the evolving energy market and a conscious use of energy. Smart meters can also communicate in real 1 time with the distributor, allowing quicker and easier identification and recovery of network faults, therefore improving grid reliability and service quality. Moreover, the integration and optimisation of distributed renewable energy systems is boosted using smart meters, which can separately record the energy consumed and the energy injected into the network, therefore contributing to the sustainability and decarbonisation of power systems. E-Distributie Muntenia has scheduled for 2020 the installation of approximately 80,000 smart meters in Bucharest, Giurgiu and Ilfov counties. E-Distributie Dobrogea will install almost 41,000 smart meters in Calarasi, Constanta, Ialomita and Tulcea counties, while E-Distributie Banat will install meters with the new technology for approximately 50,000 customers in Arad, Caras Severin, Hunedoara and Timis counties. As a result of the investments made in the grid modernization, the three E-Distribuție companies from the Muntenia Sud, Banat and Dobrogea regions remain leaders in the top of the electricity distribution operators in Romania. According to the most recent official reports of ANRE, for 2018, the SAIDI index of unplanned interruptions (System Average Interruption Duration Index) for E-Distribuție Muntenia was 138 minutes, the best performance in the country, decreasing from 145 minutes in 2017. The following places in the ranking were occupied by E-Distribuție Dobrogea, with 188.8 minutes, and E-Distribuție Banat, with 214.7 minutes, both with better than average national performance, which stood at 224.1 minutes. НАУЧНИ ТРУДОВЕ НА РУСЕНСКИЯ УНИВЕРСИТЕТ - 2013, том 52, серия 5.1 Perspectives of the business area development in the Romanian rural area. Case study Calarasi county Daniela Cretu1 Elena Lascăr2 Abstract: The rural area in Călăraşi county has a particular importance for the development of the county, so its analysis wants to identify the vital positive and negative elements for its sustainable development. With a decreasing population and its density of about 61 inhabitants/km should be considered mainly a predominant rural county, with over half of the population in rural area in 2012, which represents a much higher value than the average of the recently integrated EU countries. Thus, the rural and agricultural development will form a solid pillar. The success and prosperity of the county depend on their economic performances. The county is dependent on agriculture and on rural economy. The spread of globalization threatens the traditional agriculture. Key words: agriculture, active population, employed population, investments, rural area resources. INTRODUCTION Călăraşi county is part of South-Muntenia development Region, it was declared as territorial-administrative unit in January 1981, it is situated in the South-East part of Romania, on the left shore of the Danube and Borcea Branch and it borders in the North with Ialomiţa county, in the East with Constanţa county, in the West with Giurgiu county and Ilfov Agricultural Sector and in the South with Bulgaria [2]. The county has a surface of 508,785 ha, representing 2.1% of Romania, Călăraşi county occupies 28th place among the country counties [4]. From administrative point of view, the county contains 2 municipalities, 3 towns, 50 communes and 161 villages.

However, the yield of cereal production is below the European Union average. Of these, an important place is occupied by wheat production. Taking into account these aspects, the paper investigates the potential of wheat production in Romanian counties starting from a set of indicators and using cluster analysis to identify similarities and disparities between counties from this point of view. Through this study we tried to provide answers to the questions: What is the configuration of wheat production yield at the regional level in Romania? What is its evolution over time? The results obtained during the research show that there are disparities in the counties of Romania in terms of the efficiency of wheat production in correlation with the resources used for its production. Keywords: agricultural sector, wheat production, production yield, regional development, Romania JEL classification: C10, C38, O13 INTRODUCTION Balanced territorial development, including the adoption of rural development measures, embodied in national and regional programs to address the needs and challenges facing rural areas, are major objectives pursued by the Common Agricultural Policy of the European Union (CAP, 2017).
