Get voting! Howard's Way Roly Howard may not be a name familiar to many FC United fans. His 33 years at Marine, however, has made him the longest-serving post-war manager in English football. Even Sir Alex Ferguson won’t last that long. Between 1972 and 2005, Roly was in charge for 1,975 games, which is quite amazing, given that some non-league clubs go through 2 or 3 managers a season. During his reign Howard won 30 trophies, and raised the proƬle of the club with some notable FA Cup runs. In 1992-93 they even reached the Third Round, taking the League scalp of Halifax Town (4-1) en route. They've also reached the Semi-Finals of the FA Trophy twice, in 1983-84 and 1991-92. Whilst at Marine, Roly nurtured some future professionals including Jason McAteer (Liverpool & Republic of Ireland) , Paul Cook (Wigan Athletic & Wolves) and Paul Beesley (Wigan Athletic & SheƯeld United). And,as if being in the dugout wasn't enough, Howard was also groundsman for six years, and still managed to Ƭt in a window cleaning round, with Kenny Dalglish being one of his customers. The Mariners obviously like continuity. The Northern Premier League Premier Division was formed in 1987, and they, along with Frickley Athletic, have been ever-present since. The Merseysiders did Ƭnish as Champions in 1993-94 and 1994-95 but their ground failed the grading required for promotion.

  • Marine E Programme
WELCOME! We would like to extend a very warm welcome to our visitors this afternoon as Marine AFC provide the opposition for our first Pitching In Northern Premier League N/West Division Match of the 2020-21 season. The Players, Team Management, Officials and supporters of our opponents are most welcome after making the very long and arduous journey from Crosby in Liverpool. Strangely, Dunston FC travelled to the excellent Marine Travel Arena on the opening day of last season to play our very first Northern Premier League Match and we received a very warm welcome from our hosts. A very good game ensued on a superb playing surface with the game ending as a 1 – 1 draw. The very experienced Niall Cummins opened the scoring for Marine in the first-half and Cedwyn Scott grabbed a late equaliser for Dunston. We made a further trip to Marine at the end of September in the FA Cup and were delighted to leave with a hard-fought 2 – 1 victory thanks to goals by Liam Brooks and Michael Pearson. The return League fixture saw Marine visit the UTS Stadium in the pre-Christmas game with Xmas jumpers the order of the day. A very tight encounter finished goal-less but both Clubs enjoyed the after-match festivities to cement their cordial relationship! We also extend a warm welcome to our Match Officials this afternoon, Derek Burrows who travels from Sunderland and his Assistant Referees Simon Williamson from North Shields and Stephen Birkett from Peterlee. Our FA Match Observer is Brian Parry who also comes from Peterlee.

  • The New Herald Crumpsall Concert Band
‘Hark the CCB Herald’ THE NEW HERALD Newsletter of CRUMPSALL CONCERT BAND Volume 3 Issue 1 25th September 2020 (FC) United We Stand Welcome to a new Volume of your New Herald to mark the start of the 2020/21 banding season. The beginning of this season is like no other the band – along with many similar outfits - has encountered, as the global pandemic shows no sign of abating and we all face the prospect of enhanced restrictions as we play our part in the fight to defeat Covid-19. As a band, I believe that, so far, throughout theses strangest of times, we have developed a collective and mutually supportive resolve. As a result, I am grateful and proud of all our members and supporters, believing that ultimately, we will all get through this and make music in a united manner once again. A significant step on this journey is about to unfold as we look towards a return to rehearsals (outdoors only at this stage with full details in this issue) for those that wish or are able to, starting next Wednesday, 30th September. Along with Committee colleagues, we fully understand, and respect, members wishes and concerns about whether to return or not. As a Committee it is part of our role to provide the option in as safe and Covid-secure manner as is possible in response to wishes expressed in the member questionnaire earlier this month. Ultimately then, the decision is personal to each member and their circumstances and this will always remain the case. This is an important step for the band and whether you attend or not we are all in this together and like with our lockdown recordings, whether you played on them or not, anything that happens in our name is inclusive and representative of the band as a whole.
