Although all reasonable efforts have been taken by the organisers to ensure the Worthys Festival is safe, participants and spectators are responsible and liable for their own and their children’s actions and safety. Throughout the Festival Photography competition We were very grateful during the last Festival to Adrienne Photography who supplied us with loads of wonderful photographs to use in our advertising this time. This year, we want YOU to help; from the first events during the opening weekend, to the Festival Finale, take your photographs and send them to us on Email, Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. We will ask the Worthys Camera Club to narrow down to the best half dozen and then have a public vote on these - prizes will be announced on all formats and on noticeboards during the first week of October Come on……….get snapping! Find us on Facebook , Twitter and Instagram #worthysfestival and at www.worthysfestival.com 6 Opening weekend - Saturday Saturday 16th September Worthy Park House Open Morning - Prince’s Mead School Come and visit this beautifully maintained Grade 2* listed Sir Robert Smirke designed building of significant historical and architectural interest. Opening will be from 10.00 - 12.30pm, refreshments will be served during the course of the morning. The History of Worthy Park House will be available. Visitors are invited to walk around the house and grounds at their leisure. Folk and Jazz Festival 2-6pm Free live music all afternoon on Church Green Sponsored by the Cart & Horses pub 2pm Soberton Strummers A fun Ukelele club, who play an eclectic mix of 60s to 80s pop music, traditional songs, plus songs from earlier eras. 3pm Hursley Jazzers A group of jazz enthusiasts who get together to play jazz standards, together with some Latin, swing and bebop. 4pm Saxofony A well established purely acoustic Saxophone quartet playing a mixed style of music from Classical favourites through modern classics and pop arrangements to all styles of Jazz. 5pm Court Rogue A lively four piece folk band based in Winchester. They cleverly blend instruments and vocals together to create a fast paced, edgy, contemporary folk sound. 7 Opening weekend - Saturday On the Green Children's funfair rides courtesy of Reg and Spencer Day Juggling Jake FREE Drop-in Art Workshop for Children by Emma Lowres. Suitable for children aged 5-11. (2-5pm) Come along and be creative! No need to book, just turn up. Refreshments Pimms, Teas, Scouts BBQ, Guides Sweet stall and Beer tent to keep you fed and watered. Open Gardens 2-4.30pm Thank you to all these local people who have agreed to open their gardens for the Festival • On Mill Lane, Abbots Worthy there will be Vine Cottage built on several layers, a quirky layout with a waterfall, pond and lots of flint structures. There is an interesting 'Wedding Cake Tree' set in the middle of the garden and Abbots Worthy Mill a mill at this site since the 10th Century and mentioned in the Domesday Book, it is in a delightful setting on the River Itchen, not to be missed! • Lower Farm, Down Farm Lane A large, established garden with various levels, walled garden and pond • Kings Worthy Primary School, Nations Hill Woodland, ponds, orchard, minibeast area, roundhouse and air-raid shelter to explore • Bornholm, Bedfield Lane about 1/3 of an acre with pond, summer house and rose garden • 29 The Pastures The train garden 5” ride on train in the front. “O” gauge steam train through the borders (Tea, coffee and cake sold in aid of Labrador Lifeline Trust) • Treyor The Pastures Please Note: some gardens may have uneven steps, open ponds, prickly shrubs and other potential hazards. Please wear suitable footwear, ensure children are kept under close parental supervision, and take all reasonable precautions as necessary. 8 Opening weekend - Saturday Worthy Players 7.30pm Jubilee Hall The Worthy Players are presenting their very own ‘Radio Variety Show’. This will be a mixture of comedy sketches, running serial thriller, songs and a whole lot more! Jazz in the pub 8pm onwards Cart & Horses function room Jazz Allies Regulars here, the Jazz Allies play a mixture of tuneful modern jazz standards and ballads. Their unobtrusive music allows for a relaxed evening in the informal surrounds of the old skittle alley. 9 Sunday Sunday 17th September Community Thanksgiving Service 10am St Mary’s Church welcome the Bishop of Winchester Right Reverend Tim Dakin who will conduct this morning’s service. Residents of all ages welcome. Refreshments will be served after the service and there will be an opportunity to meet the Bishop, as well as an opportunity to try out the Bouncy Cathedral on Church Green! 10 Opening weekend - Sunday Archaeology - Hinton Park start of community dig During his research on historic footpaths Phil Allen discovered evidence of an old path, name unknown, that stretched from the Cart and Horses northwards to meet the Green Way in Hinton Park (opposite the new orchard), and then on to join the White Way within Eversley Park. The aim of the dig is to search for any remaining features of the path. There will be digging and sifting sessions (1 hour per participant) through the week and a display on the last day of the Festival to demonstrate any finds. Digging will take place through the week: Sunday 17th 11-4/Monday 6-8/ Saturday 23rd 10-2/Sunday 24th 11-2, including display of results until 3pm. You can register your interest in the dig by e-mailing [email protected] and on confirmation of booking you will receive more details. U14s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Street Parties Noon onwards - currently planned in — Lynn Way or set up your own….. invite your neighbours to Bedfield Lane bring a plate and a bottle to a communal gathering The Pastures in a cul de sac or little open space. Please wear suitable footwear, ensure children are kept under close parental supervision, and take all reasonable precautions as necessary. 11 Opening weekend - Sunday Guided History Walk 2.00pm Step back in time with the Worthys Local History Group and meet a few interesting characters from the 19th and 20th centuries and hear their stories on a short walk around the centre of the village.
