6 Opening weekend - Saturday Saturday 16th September Worthy Park House Open Morning - Prince’s Mead School Come and visit this beautifully maintained Grade 2* listed Sir Robert Smirke designed building of significant historical and architectural interest. Opening will be from 10.00 - 12.30pm, refreshments will be served during the course of the morning. The History of Worthy Park House will be available. Visitors are invited to walk around the house and grounds at their leisure.

Folk and Jazz Festival 2-6pm Free live music all afternoon on Church Green Sponsored by the Cart & Horses pub 2pm Strummers A fun Ukelele club, who play an eclectic mix of 60s to 80s pop music, traditional songs, plus songs from earlier eras. 3pm Jazzers A group of jazz enthusiasts who get together to play jazz standards, together with some Latin, swing and bebop. 4pm Saxofony A well established purely acoustic Saxophone quartet playing a mixed style of music from Classical favourites through modern classics and pop arrangements to all styles of Jazz. 5pm Court Rogue A lively four piece folk band based in . They cleverly blend instruments and vocals together to create a fast paced, edgy, contemporary folk sound.

Residents of all ages welcome. Refreshments will be served after the service and there will be an opportunity to meet the Bishop, as well as an opportunity to try out the Bouncy Cathedral on Church Green!

Archaeology - Hinton Park start of community dig During his research on historic footpaths Phil Allen discovered evidence of an old path, name unknown, that stretched from the Cart and Horses northwards to meet the Green Way in Hinton Park (opposite the new orchard), and then on to join the White Way within Eversley Park. The aim of the dig is to search for any remaining features of the path. There will be digging and sifting sessions (1 hour per participant) through the week and a display on the last day of the Festival to demonstrate any finds. Digging will take place through the week: Sunday 17th 11-4/Monday 6-8/ Saturday 23rd 10-2/Sunday 24th 11-2, including display of results until 3pm. You can register your interest in the dig by e-mailing [email protected] and on confirmation of booking you will receive more details. U14s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Winchester Theatre Arts at Jubilee Hall 7.30pm An Evening of Musicals A selection of some of the greatest and most well-loved musicals, brought to you in a spectacular evening of song and dance. Paul says “This will an off road event suitable for mountain bikes and hybrids ideally. If you only have a stunt bike or BMX you can still come but you may end up doing a shorter route than the main group. Please ensure that your bicycle is mechanically sound/road worthy and that you also have lights. We ask that you should also wear a helmet. Gloves, long trousers (to avoid getting stung or scratched) a spare inner tube or puncture repair kit would also be handy to have, just in case. Bring a drink and a lightweight top/sweatshirt and/or a waterproof if rain is forecast. There will be a couple of checkpoints along the way to offer support”

34 Wednesday/Thursday Wednesday 20th Worthys Community Shed at Tubbs Hall 2-3.30pm Drop-in session. Come and meet the pioneer group who are starting up a Community Shed this autumn in Kings Worthy. A Shed is where folk meet up to share tools and resources, to work on projects of their own choosing. It’s not just about make and/or mend, but a place of skill-sharing and informal learning, interaction and friendship. There will always be a moment to set down the tools and enjoy a cup of tea. Bubbles, St. Mary's Church toddler group is holding a short sponsored walk around Church Green to raise funds for Barnardo's. 11:00 am start and if the weather is good we will picnic on Church Green afterwards. This year's theme is colour so come brightly dressed. Sponsor forms will be available from Bubbles leaders in the Church Rooms on Thursday mornings in September Kings Worthy Health Walk This is a new regular event in Kings Worthy, long established in and around Winchester (hour long walks 1 between 2 /2 to 3 miles for those wanting to get fit and explore what is on their doorstep) This afternoon from 3pm - the organisers will be at Tubbs Hall talking about how to get involved - tea and cakes will be served

Thursday Gardeners Questions at Kings Worthy Primary School 7pm Once again we welcome our panel of local experts who will be available to answer all your gardening questions. Bring a section of problem plant for them to look at, or photos or just your questions. They have a vast wealth of talent and experience amongst them. Phil Allen, our chairman, is an experienced ecologist with lots of knowledge particularly on wildflowers and trees. Phil is the man to ask if you want to invite wildlife into your garden. He can advise on wildflower meadows, ponds and woodland glades. Phil Jeffs of Worthy Plants Garden Services has many years of plant experience, he also designs and plans gardens, writes the garden page for the Kings Worthy Parish Magazine and has been a Radio Solent garden expert. Jackie Porter along with her husband has managed for some years a large well established garden which they regularly open for the National Garden Scheme . Jackie enjoys the challenge of plant propagation and garden design. Pam Fisher is a keen hands-on plantswoman who not only has her own beautiful garden but leads the volunteer team who manage the kitchen garden for Hinton Ampner so has plenty of practical advice for growing flowers and vegetables. LBB has some very talented local musicians as well as a very competent singer, Sue Stockley. We play many rearranged and updated big band favourites including some very challenging American compositions. This year the beer & cider festival will be held in the large club room at the Worthies Sports & Social Club, where relaxing chairs & tables are situated for enjoying your beer or cider with friends. There will be 9 beers from all points of Britain, along with 3 ciders of varying strengths. An additional service we have introduced this year, is a take away service of 2 or 4 pint plastic containers for those who wish to consume the alcohol off the premises. The beers will vary from 3.8% to 6.0% alcohol and from Blonde beers to Dark Stout. They have been sourced from as far away as Scotland, Isle of Man & North Wales, along with 4 local beers. Tickets will be available in mid Aug from the Good Life Farm Shop, Kings Worthy Post Office & Worthies Sports & Social Club. Archaeology Hinton Park 10-2pm Register for your space on [email protected] Run for All from 2pm Everyone’s a winner in this popular Worthys Festival event, this year encompassing the extension to Eversley Park, soon be part of a wildflower meadow. A Festival medal will be awarded to all participants, with special prizes for the winners. Green Apple Fitness will be in charge of our warm-up session. Marshalling and prize giving by Worthy Down. There are two events, a mile for Juniors (12 and under) and three miles for Seniors. An ideal opportunity to give more focus to your exercise routine, or for more established runners it gives the opportunity to participate in a local run. For the 2017 Worthys Music Festival we’ve put together 18 acts to fill your day! Kicking off with acoustic solo treats to run with the Arts and Crafts Fair, then flying visits from the Uke Jam and Winchester Sings will lead us to an afternoon and evening of Blues, Rock, Americana, Indie, Spandex and more. We promise there’ll be something for everyone with sessions from many local favourites throughout the day. With food stalls, the Craft Fair, Championship Run, Festival of Football and Beer festival happening all around, Saturday in the Festival Marquee promises to be very special and remember, entry’s free to all. The Marvellous Mr Simon Maunder will, as always, open the musical entertainment at 11 o’clock sharp with a mix of folk tunes with ukulele accompaniment. Abi Clements & friends will be along to enthral us with some gentle ballads and maybe the odd showtune. Local type Gerald Essens returns with scarf, guitar and in-depth knowledge of Aussie Rules to keep the mood bright. From Hank Williams to The Rolling Stones, the Winchester Uke Jam spread the love in their strumming and if you’d like to perform with them there’s still time to join up. Winchester Sings will bring a burst of community choir joy to proceedings at around lunchtime. Fresh from the One Heart Festival, Winchester University’s very own Never the Twain will help you discover your inner dragon. We have no idea what Pete Hotston will get up to during his 25 minutes, so why not pop on down and find out with us as it’s bound to be fun. Grohlercoaster will leave you screaming for more when 5 Shades of Grey return to charm us all with their mix of modern rock classics, whilst Deaf By 4 will keep the spiders at bay. Offbeat Celtic Fusion that is MeloDaemons. Expect big hair, face melting solos, spandex, power ballads and moisture from Hair Trigger when they step out to perform. The Wonstons are back – watch out! Sunday 24th Today is less active, for the humans at least Fun Dog Show 10am –4pm Registration from 10am, judging begins 11.30am Come and have some fun with your dogs, with the classes and little extras. 10 classes and Best in Show Rosettes to fifth place and certificates. Treats for all dogs who enter £2 for registration and 1 class, further classes £1 each. All proceeds go to animal charities. For more information contact Mandy on 07518208550. Final weekend - Sunday Worthys Conservation Volunteers Will be guiding you through Hedgehog House building as well as talking about their increasingly varied work around our various green areas in the Worthys Lovedon Fields HAB will be displaying their various green, ecological and sustainable food aspects of their development and in particular the plans of the wildflower meadow and community orchard Fitness Circuits Juliette of Green Apple Fitness will be holding taster sessions on the exercise equipment on the bottom field of Eversley Park through the afternoon. Festival Finale From 5pm all at the King Charles pub at the corner of Lovedon Lane and Springvale Road. Community BBQ The Worthys Scouts will be selling their wares Entertainment from the Contemporary Band of the AGC The music will continue after the fireworks until around 9pm.
