It is a day of transformation – the disciples were huddled together in fear of the authorities and once the Holy Spirit descended upon them, they were transformed into zealous apostles upon whom the foundation of the Church was built. Pentecost was originally a Jewish feast celebrated 50 days after the Passover as a day of thanksgiving on which the people brought the first fruits of the harvest as a profession of their faith in God. For Catholics, the feast Pentecost is celebrated 50 days after East- er. It is often referred to as the birthday of the Church when the Good News began to be preached to the ends of the world. This Pentecost Sunday at the 10:00 AM Mass, six young adults from our Religious Education Program will be confirmed and hopefully follow in the footsteps of the apostles bringing the Good News of Jesus Christ to a world in desperate need of God’s love and peace. Let us pray for the confirmandi that the Holy Spirit will empower them to be faithful apostles and disciples of the Lord. Please join me in offering congratulations and prayerful best wishes to: Connor James Faello, Anthony James Lambdin, Leah Alexa Locker, Matthew John Marano, Jake Tyler Onglengco-Cassano, Katie Marie Sullivan Congratulations and thank you to the parents for raising your child in the practice of the faith. Thanks also to the Confirmation catechists, Mrs. Lori Krotz and Deacon Chris Sisinni and to all the catechists who generously shared their faith, their talents and their time by teaching in our Religious Education Program. On May 19, 2021, in accord with the directives I received from the Diocese, we can resume 100% capacity in the Churches. Certain practices remain in effect: Masks are to be worn by all parishioners in attendance. Likewise, masks will be worn by all who distribute Holy Communion. Similarly, we should be reasonable and try to keep some social distancing especially when standing online to receive Holy Communion. The sign of peace may be offered without physical contact to a nonfamily member. In place of a handshake, you can offer a smile and a wave and/or a simple bow. The dispensation from the obligation to attend Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation remains in effect until such time as announced by the Bishops of New York State. Pope Francis has called for a marathon of prayer during the remaining days of May to appeal for Divine assistance in bringing about an end to the Covid pandemic. Different Marian shrines throughout the world were chosen by the Holy See to lead the rosary each day. Please consider saying a rosary each day for the remaining days of May. You are invited to join your fellow parishioners who pray the rosary after the 9:00 AM Mass, Monday through Friday.     Most Holy Name of Jesus SAINT OF THE DAY 03-01-2021 "Whatever you ask in my name, I will do it." The words of Our Lord in John's Gospel stress the importance of the Most Holy Name of Jesus, actually venerated from the earliest centuries of Christianity, as attested by the various Christograms (those combinations of Greek or Latin letters of the alphabet to form acronyms of the name of Christ) found in early Christian art. The liturgical cult of the Name of Jesus, however, would only take root between the 15th and 16th centuries. The sacredness surrounding the name of Jesus, which means "God saves", a name imposed on him by Mary and Joseph after the command they had individually received from the angel, is grafted into God's gradual revelation to Israel unfolding throughout the Old Testament. Here the name seems to be the core of God's pedagogy to make Himself known to men and lead them to Himself. In the theophany of the burning bush (Ex 3: 1-15) the hidden God of the Old Testament reveals Himself as "I am he who I am", thus answering Moses' question of what name he would have to report to the Israelites in order to be obeyed, and so that he could free them from the slavery of Egypt. That name ­–­ enclosed in the sacred tetragrammaton YHWH, which many Jews do not pronounce, and expressed by the title of Lord (Adonai) ­­– communicates that "God is the fullness of Being and of every perfection, without origin and without end" ( Catechism of the Catholic Church, 213); it also communicates God's faithfulness to His promise, to be fulfilled with Jesus Crucified and expressed in the prophecy pronounced before the Passion: "When you have exalted the Son of man, then you will know that I am" (Jn 8:28).

Quinlan Knowing about Jesus’ debate with the Pharisees helps us to Pastor understand today’s Gospel. In fact the story heightens the surprise and shock we feel as we hear Jesus’ exchange with the Canaanite woman. The Reverend Matthew E. Cannon woman, who is not Jewish, approaches Jesus, requesting that he heal her Parochial Vicar demon-possessed daughter. At first Jesus ignores her; he says nothing. The disciples ask Jesus to send her away, and Jesus agrees, remarking that he Deacon Joseph J. Wrabel was sent to minister to the Jews alone.     Display the Emblem on your front door against the coronavirus: Blessed Emblems are available in the vestibules of St. Wenceslaus and Ss. Cyril and Methodius Churches. The emblems are blessed and eant to be posted on the front door of your home to ward off the darkness of the coronavirus. Our Faith bears great things to us in times of trouble! I am always amazed by the greatness of our faith. The St. Raphael Ministry has made available something of this great magnitude to avoid the coming of the coronavirus upon us. (Fr. Scott, a priest from the Archdiocese of Omaha has approved the following information.) The actual page that you put on your front door is available in the vestibule of St. Wenceslaus, or Ss Cyril and Methodius. They are laminated to be water proof. Take one home with you from the vestibule of Church. The following is an explanation of this spirituality. I believe it is solid. (I will bless these emblems before they are placed in the vestibules. I believe that there is a dark component to this coronavirus.) This sacred emblem is placed on the doors of houses for protection against the plague. It is an ancient indulgence practice linked to The Most Holy Name of Jesus. The main devotions are illustrated in this figure: to the Most Holy Trinity, to Mary Most Holy, to St. Joseph, to the Sacred Heart and to the Immaculate Heart, to the Holy Rosary and to the Chair of St. Peter. The use of sacred images is not superstition, but based on our Catholic faith.

Emmanuel and I, who are both symptom-free and fully vaccinated, will be presiding at Masses and devo- tions. In accordance with Diocesan guidance, the Rectory office will continue to operate via phone or e-mail un- til it re-opens on Monday morning, March 8. The General Instruction of the Roman Missal reminds us that in the cycles of readings and prayers proclaimed throughout the year in the sacred liturgy “the mysteries of redemption are celebrated so as to be in some way made present.” Thus may each celebration of the Holy Eucharist which is served by this Calendar be for the Church in the United States of America “the high point both of the action by which God sanctifies the world in Christ and of the worship that the human race offers to the Father, adoring him through Christ, the Son of God, in the Holy Spirit.”2 Sincerely in Christ, Rev.
