PASTORAL STAFF THIRD SUNDAY OF LENT Reverend Edward J. Quinlan In today’s Gospel we read about how Jesus overturned the tables of the Pastor merchants and the moneychangers in the Temple at Jerusalem. In order to understand the relevance of Jesus’ action, we must learn more about the Reverend Matthew E. Cannon activities that were going on in the temple area. Worship at the Temple in Parochial Vicar Jerusalem included animal sacrifice, and merchants sold animals to worshipers. Moneychangers exchanged Roman coins, which bore the image Deacon Joseph J. Wrabel of the Roman emperor, for the temple coins that were needed to pay the Permanent Deacon temple tax. Jesus’ action at the Temple in Jerusalem is recorded in all four Gospels Deacon Jerome T. Foerster and is often understood to be among the events that led to Jesus’ arrest and Permanent Deacon Crucifixion. We must read the Gospel of John carefully, especially in its presentation of MASSES Jesus’ relationship to Judaism. The Gospel of John tends to reflect greater Weekends: tension and animosity between Jesus and the Jewish authorities than the Saturday Vigil....5:00 p.m. Synoptic Gospels. Sunday..8:00 a.m., 10:15 a.m., John explains to his audience, an early Christian community, that temple 12:00 noon, 6:00 p.m. worship would no longer be necessary because it was surpassed in the Weekdays: passion, death, and Resurrection of Jesus. (Weekday schedule subject to Throughout John’s Gospel, the language of signs is distinctive. Jesus’ change - please see inside bulletin) miracles are called signs. Here we learn that the sign par excellence will be Monday....6:30 a.m. Jesus’ passion, death, and Resurrection. Tue-Thu....6:30 a.m., 8:00 a.m. During Lent we reflect upon the meaning of this sign for us and for our Friday....6:30 a.m., 8:30 a.m. world. We might take this opportunity to consider the quality of our prayer and Saturday..8:30 a.m. worship. In our prayers we seek to deepen our relationship with the person of . In our worship with the community, we gather to experience anew the CONFESSIONS passion, death, and Resurrection of Jesus and its significance in our lives. Saturday..9:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. Christ promises to be present with us when we gather for prayer. 3:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. - Excerpted from Sunday Connection, Loyola Press

Under the leadership of Holy Name’s first Kelly Masi, Rosemary McClure, Barry McKeel, Mike pastor, Rev. The original building fund McKenna, Makenzie Mehalick, Nicholas Messer, Bernard raised $375,000 to build the church, social room, eight classrooms, and Mihalik, Richard Miller, Gina Mischianti, Catherine Molter, convent. Years later, the rectory was constructed in 1971 at a cost of Dianne Moran, William Moultane, Joan Marie Myhre, $32,000. In the early 1970’s, Holy Name of Jesus added the football field, Marjorie Jude Niland, Linda Norton, Theresa Notarnicola, playgrounds, and an ice rink. In the late 1970’s, a Capital Campaign raised Lilian O’Connell, Mary Oman, Mollie O’Neill, Joshua Otzel, funds to construct the school building (1978) and the gymnasium (1980). Life Begins At Conception It is an error to claim, “It’s not a human, it’s a fetus.” That would be like saying, “it’s not a human, it’s an infant,” or, “It’s not a human, it’s an adolescent,” These are category fallacies. The proper answer to these assertions would be, “Sure, it’s a fetus, sure it’s an infant, and sure it’s an adolescent. It’s a human fetus, a human infant, and a human adolescent.” These are simply stages of development in the human life cycle.
