Veterans Cricket Victoria Strategic Plan 2018-21 Background On the 16th and 17th July 2018, the VCV Executive and delegates convened a strategy workshop held at the new Cricket Victoria Centre, Junction Oval, St. Kilda. The workshop was opened by Russell Thomas (Chairman Cricket Victoria).The key aims of the workshop were to continue to build on the successes of VCV’s growth and competitive spirit over the last 24 months, and importantly: ▪ Explore the numerous challenges facing sporting bodies in a crowded and competitive recreational landscape ▪ Renew VCV’s Values and Mission to ensure we continue to be acknowledged as the preeminent veteran’s cricket body, and ▪ Set new and stretching strategies and targets to drive VCV’s operations over the coming 2-3 years. Fostering participation and inclusiveness as an important part of our culture 4. Promoting a safe physical environment and the health and wellbeing of all participants 5. Forging meaningful relationships with our communities and key stakeholders, and 6. Ensuring good governance at all times 4 Key Goals/Strategies 1. Growth in Participation 2. Widen revenue sources to underpin ongoing growth 3. Strengthen Executive and Sub-Committee Structure to ensure that growth, succession planning and governance responsibilities are maximised 4. Expand marketing reach to proactively build strong and sustainable relationships with Cricket Australia, Cricket Victoria, the Media and Sponsors 5. Build the next phase of operational support structures targeting sustainable competitive on field success at state, national and international levels 6. Expand knowledge and application of digital and social media platforms and ensure programs embrace both wellbeing and healthy lifestyle 5 Strategy 1 - Grow Participation “Develop and implement targeted strategies to capitalize on the growing interest in new and multi formatted forms of cricket across the 50+ demographic” No. Key Strategy or Action By Who When 1 Develop a comprehensive and multi-channel media strategy to promote participation. Encourage informal “team based” growth in additional to formal “club based” structures. 2 Update the promotional clip to ensure all segments from 50+ are profiled 3 Develop and implement targeted recruitment strategies for female, and multi-cultural segments 4 Seek to imbed VCV into Cricket Victoria’s strategic plan and focus 5 Offer incentives for clubs and stakeholders to sign new up new clubs and players. 6 Build a model that incorporates pathways from existing 40+ vets structures through to over 70’s. 7 Establish a network of existing associations running over 40’s Vets and develop communication and pathway plans 6 Strategy 2 - Grow Revenue “Identify alternate revenue sources and build programs to provide value for money for all players, sponsors and stakeholders” No. Key Strategy or Action By Who When 1 Review and where appropriate engage with current sponsors to understand their value for money proposition 2 Draw up a target list of prospective sponsors based on VCV value proposition and demographic (may include: travel agencies, insurance companies, government etc.) 3 Actively lobby relevant government bodies seeking program endorsement/support 4 Collaborate with Cricket Victoria to identify structural relationships that commercially benefit both bodies (review CV sponsors to establish links) 5 Prepare a detailed 3 year financial plan, outlining: fee, sponsorship, grants etc. targets 6 Target Vic Health to support specific wellbeing projects 7 Consider partnering with a corporate for an annual raffle 7 Strategy 3 - Strengthen Governance “Review and where appropriate implement structural change to ensure that growth is effectively resourced, and risks are mitigated.” No. Key Strategy or Action By Who When 1 Circulate a preferred VCV structure to VCV Executive for recommended adoption at the 2018 AGM. 2 Throughout 2018/18 review alternate structural options to underpin growth and strategic plan objectives. 3 Establish a sub-committee structure to support the key Executive Units 4 Review and update regularly a “Risk Management Plan” to ensure key threats to VCV are understood and mitigation plans adopted 5 Review composition and strengthen the fixture committee noting the emerging pressures driven by metro and regional participation, digital platforms etc. 6 Review and report back on the need/opportunity to recruit a paid administrator, and if supported prepare an appropriate Position Description and recruitment plan 7 Following the adoption of “2” above, prepare an initial succession strategy/plan 8 Prepare a strategy for affiliation with Cricket Victoria 8 Strategy 4 - Expand Marketing and Strengthen Relationships “Identify threshold relationships, and strengthen marketing structure and resources to ensure that VCV channels are open, active and contemporary” No. Key Strategy or Action By Who When 1 Review resource requirements and implement a new marketing structure for implementation in 2018/19. 2 Prepare a relationship strategy targeting key prospects including: CV, CA,Vic Health,Vic Sports Commission, Finance Sector, Real Estate Industry etc. Consider identifying and appointing a VCV patron. 3 Update VCV website and provide hot links to key mediums (including an updated video blog) 4 Design and prepare a comprehensive data base to supplement the MyCricket platform, and to ensure that all targeted players. Stakeholders are connected 5 Prepare a simple media strategy, targeting WIN/regional TV and metro community radio, and provide regular SMSs, email communication updates to the VCV data base 6 Strengthen the established “ Events Touring” operation to ensure regional, interstate and international tours capture all opportunities and organizational requirements 7 Prepare a strategy to conduct “exhibition” games at key recreational fixtures 9 Strategy 5 - Sustainable On Field Competitive Advantage “Develop key age and skill profiles and build targeted programs to ensure that pathways for on field success are maximized at club, regional, state and international levels” No. Key Strategy or Action By Who When 1 Review Selection Committee composition and process to ensure all demographics are appropriately represented. 2 Prepare a recruitment plan that targets top talent in each lower age segment. 3 Promote the opportunity of representation at State and International levels to the wider VCV membership and the various over 40 competitions throughout Victoria. 4 Review training regimes, particularly for championship/ state/ international events.
