he andis ewsletter T L N Fall 2015

Family Update Fall is in the air here in Northwestern Montana - the Tamarack trees are fully arrayed in orange splendor throughout the forests, the mountain tops are blanketed in a soft covering of a white snow and the wood stove cozily warms our home once again. As we welcome the cool beauty of fall and anticipate the stirrings of wintry weather and activities, our family has reason to pause and rejoice in the Lord’s goodness that we have perceived and experienced the past months. With remarkable timing and much awaited anticipation, our family joy- fully welcomed the sweet blessing of the birth of our son, Caleb , the very day after camp concluded for the summer! Caleb was born August 23, weighing a healthy 9’ 11” and measuring 22” long. A lovable little boy born into a family of 5 girls has certainly garnered plenty of interest, but far beyond the excitement and attention expressed over Caleb’s arrival is our understanding of the unmerited blessing of our great in entrusting us with the life of another precious child. Caleb has been an immense joy in our family as he is eagerly passed from one big sister to another, and the girls have enthusiasti- cally embraced assisting in any duties related to his care. From bathing to diaper changing and dressing, he is continually attended to! We truly rejoice in the gift of Caleb’s life and ask that you would join with us in praying that his life would result in the praise and glory of his Maker and that he would grow to love the One who made him. The conclusion of summer camp and the birth of our new baby also signaled the arrival of a new school year, and the girls and I (Lisa) have enjoyed delving once again into the books and journeying together in our love for learning. Our summer was filled with people and activity- from summer staff to out of town visitors and family, help- ing out at and attending camp, one on one disci- Praises pleship with staff as well -Praise for a full fall schedule of guest groups using the camp facilities- pray as family time and plenty that we can be an encouragement and Christ-like example as we serve others of play- camp season fre- and hopefully point them to . quently passes in a whirlwind of action! We have all embraced returning to the more scheduled -We are continually grateful for an excellent staff and the blessing of having life school initiates and are indeed thankful yet enough people to fill in all the gaps. God’s provision of the Matt and Carole Scherrer family to our camp staff (they arrived from Alaska in March) has again for the blessing and privilege our home- continued to encourage us as they use their gifts to serve here at Big Sky! schooling experience has been thus far for our children and family.

JOELLA: (5th grade) “I enjoyed going to camp this summer, especially going to chapel and doing crafts. In school I have enjoyed learning about our bodies in science and study- ing American history.” Favorite things to do in her spare time: Read or play outside (especially if it involves dressing up as a character in history and transporting all her sisters back in time!)

ALEYAH: (4th grade) “I liked going camping, helping out with the puppets [for Camp Promise chapels] and swimming in the lake. My favorite school subjects are geography, history and science. I like learning in history about people who discovered continents and in science I like learning about how our bodies work.” Favorite things to do in her spare time: Read a book and play outside, especially playing with Molly and Clint (staff children)

DINAH: (2nd grade) “I liked going to day camp and I liked riding the zip line across the lake. I liked when Caleb was born. I like science because we do fun stuff and we made a cell and put candy in it for different parts.” Favorite things to do in her spare time: Play outside, especially swinging on the swings, riding bike and playing in the garden

EVA: (Kindergarten) “My favorite part of summer was when Caleb was born and going camping and going to day camp. I like learning how to read words in school.” Favorite things to do in her spare time: Play dress up and ride my bike

HANNAH: (3) “I like swimmin… and playing with the counselors.” Favorite thing to do: Play dress up and read stories

Prayer Requests - Pray for our family as our hands are blessedly full with six children and the responsi- bilities of leading camp and homeschooling our children! We specifically would ask for wisdom as we work with people, patience and energy as we parent, and time and motiva- tion to nurture our marriage relationship. We would ask that God be honored in all our relationships, from strangers crossing camp grounds, to our full time staff, church family and our relationships with one another in the home!

-Pray for wisdom for Jamy as he progresses with decisions concerning the future of Big Sky and the prospect of a new facility. The necessary and numerous steps forward are overwhelming- pray for God’s leading, timing and provision.
