DUANE POOLE Bio In addition to extensive film and television credits, Duane Poole has written the musical A Christmas Memory, based on the Truman Capote classic, with composer Larry Grossman (“Snoopy!!!”, “Minnie’s Boys”, etc.) and lyrics by Carol Hall (“The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas”). The Irish Rep production starred Tony-winner Alice Ripley and received a New York Outer Critics Circle nomination as Best Off-Broadway Musical in 2014. Beautiful Poison (based on his screen adaptation of Nathaniel Hawthorne’s Rappaccini’s Daughter) with a score by Brendan Milburn and Valerie Vigoda, was commissioned by Seattle’s prestigious 5th Avenue Theatre. It became a 2014 NAMT Festival selection and will have its first full production in Seattle’s 2017-2018 season, directed by Tony-nominated Christopher Ashley (“Memphis”, “Xanadu”, the upcoming “Come From Away”). Scrooge in Love! with music by Larry Grossman and lyrics by Kellen Blair (“Murder for Two”) premiered in San Francisco in 2015, scoring 6 Bay Area Critics Circle nominations, winning for both Book and Score. A bigger production opens this year, with a New York premiere planned for 2017. Dorian, score by James J. Mellon and Scott DeTurk (“The Ghost and Mrs. Muir”) premiered at Denver’s Buell Theatre starring Broadway’s Robert Cuccioli (“Jekyll & Hyde”) with a European premiere in the fall of 2016. Love Makes the World Go ‘Round debuted in 2014 at The Phoenix Theatre in Arizona, featuring the songs of Bob Merrill as arranged by Glee’s Brad Ellis. Upcoming: Make Someone Happy for Broadway’s two-time Tony winner Judy Kaye...and The Fox Sisters with award-winning composer/lyricist Amy Engelhardt. Along with a dozen other plays, Duane created concerts for Michael Feinstein and Cheyenne Jackson and tribute evenings to Stephen Sondheim, Stephen Schwartz, and Tom Jones & Harvey Schmidt for the Pasadena Playhouse. As a writer and producer in Hollywood, Duane’s credits include over fifty television movies, series, and features, including the final two screen appearances of the legendary Katharine Hepburn. He wrote the animated musical Michel's Bird with songs by Michel Legrand. His television film about child abuse, For the Love of a Child, won a number of awards and an invitation to the White House. He developed The Martian Chronicles as a feature with author Ray Bradbury. His film Shattered Image was an official selection at the Venice, Montreal, and Toronto Film Festivals. He has written for performers as varied as George Clooney, Glenn Close, Anthony Quinn, Gwen Verdon, Jack Lemmon, Ginger Rogers, Fred Flintstone, and Johnny Depp. .
