MXGR0005 MICA Brochure V4.Indd DESIGNER LIVING IN CAMPBELL MICA is exceptional in every respect. The location, in the very heart of Canberra’s most desirable inner-north suburb, is unmatched. Then there’s the scale: this boutique development has just 19 beautifully crafted homes arranged in three separate buildings. And the design: Stewart Architects have been inspired by Campbell’s stylish mid-century modern heritage. But most impressive of all are the lifestyle options. MICA includes nine spacious two-bedroom apartments, six three-level terraces and four luxurious four-bedroom townhomes. MICA can be your cool, inner-city base, the next stage in your life journey, or your ultimate family home. GOOD DESIGN DOESN’T DATE. HARRY SEIDLER THE MIDDLE OF CAMPBELL I MICA YOUR URBAN VILLAGE Campbell has everything going for it. There’s history: it is home to Canberra’s oldest residence, Duntroon, now the Royal Military College. There are leafy streets, parks and playing fields. There’s peace and quiet, away from main roads. No wonder it’s among the most sought-after suburbs in Canberra. MICA’s location at the Campbell village shops puts everything you need just steps away from your door. Pick up your groceries at the IGA, nip out for coffee at the Hello Café or meet friends at the Pedlar Pub. Eat in or take-away at local favourite Leong Kitchen, or enjoy a gourmet dinner at one of Canberra’s top ten restaurants, the Lanterne Rooms. SO COOL, SO CAMPBELL A drive around Campbell reveals that the suburb has a distinct mid-century vibe. Many homes date from the 1950s and ‘60s, including several by distinguished architects Roy Grounds and Harry Seidler. That style has inspired the architectural approach to MICA. The words used to describe mid-century architecture – cool, sleek, sophisticated, functional – all apply here. Materials like brick and natural stone echo those used in Campbell’s early development, while precast concrete, steel and glass create contrasting textures. As a result, MICA makes a statement all its own, while reflecting elements of the suburb’s heritage. At MICA, outdoor spaces act as an extension of living spaces, promoting cross ventilation and natural light. Generous rooftop terraces and ground floor courtyard spaces connect you with your surroundings and each of the three buildings has been sited to maximise vistas of Mount Ainslie, City Hill and Canberra City. That’s because it suits the way we live now. It incorporates natural materials and organic, sculptural forms with clean lines, open plan spaces and indoor-outdoor flow. At MICA, interiors reflect that mid-century aesthetic, with natural timbers and tones offsetting the masonry external finishes. Soft greys, warm mid-toned timbers and black highlights create a sleek, sophisticated ambience. Rounded accents, grid-like patterns and varying textures add visual interest. Because you’ll want to entertain, MICA’s apartments, terraces and town houses, feature designer kitchens equipped with high quality European appliances. Because you value outdoor living, there are generous balconies and roof-top terraces. You’ll have peace of mind, with state-of-the art security systems. And MICA provides ample car parking. Each apartment and terrace has two spaces while townhomes have four-car lock-up garages. ARCHITECTURE SHOULD SPEAK OF ITS TIME AND PLACE, BUT YEARN FOR TIMELESSNESS. FRANK GEHRY THE MIDDLE OF CAMPBELL I MICA A contemporary approach to the design and detailing is paired with a classic mid-century modern colour palette. A white base, with soft greys, warm mid toned timbers and black accents. See Inclusions list for specific details. • The Old Sheep Camp on Mount Majura
The Old Sheep Camp on Mount Majura Research on the history of the site and a management plan for its rehabilitation. By William Mudford Venturer Scout at Majura Mountain Scouts Research assisted by Waltraud Pix Co-ordinator of Friends of Mount Majura Park Care Group William Mudford’s Queen Scout Environment Project on Mount Majura Sheep Camp: Page 1 Introduction Mount Majura is located in the North of the Australian Capital Territory. A majority of Mount Majura is currently run as a Nature Reserve. Many parts of the reserve have infestations of non- indigenous plants, or weeds, because of prior land use and farming practices. One particular site, at the top of the Casuarina trail, on the saddle between Mount Majura and Mount Ainslie, known as the “Old Sheep Camp” is particularly infested with weeds. In my project I investigated the history of the site, the reasons for the weed infestation and the methods of rehabilitation the local park care group have available to them, and are utilising. This project seeks to answer the following questions about the site: 1. Who owned and managed the area and how was it used before it became a Nature Reserve? 2. What are the reasons for the heavy weed infestation on the site? 3. What processes and procedures can the local environment group use to rehabilitate the area? William Mudford’s Queen Scout Environment Project on Mount Majura Sheep Camp: Page 2 Contents Part 1 – The history of the area Page 4 Part 2 – The reasons for the infestation of non-indigenous flora at the Sheep Camp site.
