Designed and built with intention, taking advantage of natural elevation changes, and featuring a variety of corners to tempt, test and challenge. Surrounded by breathtaking scenery in Canada’s warmest climate - the motorsport equivalent of Pebble Beach. Location Endless blue skies and a warm desert climate combine to make the South Okanagan Valley the ideal location for Area 27. Home to one of the world’s premier wine tourism regions, the South Okanagan features lakes, beaches and mountains perfectly suited to outdoor sports and recreation. After a day spent enjoying Canada’s outdoor playground, guests are welcomed by numerous resort hotels and ne dining establishments. Hidden in the hills overlooking the valley, Area 27’s two hundred twenty seven acre site provides a hint towards the names origin. The site could be seen from space but not from public vantage points, much like a certain secret base in Nevada. The number 27 was chosen as a tribute to Canadian racing legend Gilles Villeneuve, who claimed the number as his own driving for Ferrari. The Circuit The Area 27 Circuit has the unique distinction of being envisioned, designed, engineered, and constructed by professional racecar drivers. Designed to take advantage of the natural terrain, Area 27’s sixteen turns ow through elevation changes like a favorite country road. Straightaways are long enough to generate speed and to allow the driver time to assimilate the previous corner’s challenge. Great corners are dened by what comes before and what happens after them - Area 27 was built with this in mind.

The Indy Racing League and the Indianapolis 500: Increasing Competition in Open-Wheeled Automobile Racing in the United States Robert W. White Department of Sociology and Andrew J. Baker Department of Geography School of Liberal Arts IUPUI We thank Terri Talbert-Hatch and Pete Hylton for their comments and support of Motorsports Studies. This is especially evident in recent years. The 1996 “split” between the Indy Racing League (IRL; later, the IndyCar Series) and Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART; later the Champ Car World Series) severely hurt the sport. Following the split there was a well-documented decline in fan interest from which the sport has not recovered. Less understood, however, is that under the Indy Racing League the Indianapolis 500, the premier event in open-wheeled racing in the United States, became more competitive. Ironically, while fan interest decreased in the Indy Racing League era, the quality of racing increased. The increased competition associated with the Indy Racing League is a historically significant development that bodes well for the future of the sport.

Contact: Adam Saal Matthew Simmons Bill Klingbeil SRT Motorsports - Nationwide Race Recap - Road America Trouble-free Day Gives Hornish Fifth Place Finish at Road America Villeneuve Leads Early, Ends Up Sixth at America’s ‘National Park of Speed’ June 22, 2012, Elkhart Lake, Wisc. - Sam Hornish Jr. stayed out of trouble and kept all four wheels on the road – literally – to score a fifth-place finish in the Sargento 200 at Road America Saturday afternoon. Hornish grabbed his third top five of the season and chopped 11 points off Elliott Sadler’s lead in the Nationwide Series championship standings. He now trails Sadler by 34 points entering next week’s event at Kentucky Speedway. Hornish led once in the race for three laps. The driver of the No. 12 Alliance Truck Parts Dodge said he had a simple strategy entering the weekend’s event at the 4.048-mile road course, a track known for chaotic racing. “We were just trying to be smart,” Hornish said. “My goal for the weekend was to make sure that we weren’t sitting in any sand traps. I’m really happy about that and to be able to pass some really good road racers there towards the end, I feel like it was pretty good. There were some guys running into each other on the last lap and I did everything I could do to try to stay out of that.” The strategy worked, despite the fact Hornish was involved in a rambunctious five-car battle for fourth-place in the closing laps featuring Max Papis, Danica Patrick, Brian Scott and his Penske Racing teammate for the weekend, Jacques Villeneuve.

  • An All Carbon Fiber Supercar Like No Other Fittipaldi EF7 Vision Gran Turismo by Pininfarina Unveiled
COMUNICATO STAMPA An all carbon fiber supercar like no other Fittipaldi EF7 Vision Gran Turismo by Pininfarina unveiled F1 racing legend and Indy 500 champion, Emerson Fittipaldi, unveiled his dream track car, the much-anticipated Fittipaldi EF7 Vision Gran Turismo by Pininfarina, at the Geneva Motor Show today. The ultra-light, all carbon fiber supercar fuses the vision of F1 and Indy Car racing champion Fittipaldi, iconic Italian design company Pininfarina and race-bred German engineering firm HWA AG, and fulfills Fittipaldi’s dream to produce a car with fierce track- racing capabilities, for drivers of all skill levels. “I have tried for years to explain to others what it truly feels like to be behind the steering wheel of a championship racecar. There is adrenaline and elation all rolled into an awe- inspiring inner fulfillment that leaves you craving for more. This is what our dream team created in the EF7 Vision Gran Turismo by Pininfarina,” said Fittipaldi of the first car to be released under the Fittipaldi Motors marque. Revealing a commandingly sleek design underscored by an extraordinary power-to- weight ratio, the supercar’s design theme – that of a shark, inspired by Emerson – finds astounding aerodynamic expression in the vehicle’s flowing, aggressive lines; assertive yet incredibly beautiful and pure; and a balance between emotion and efficiency typical of Pininfarina’s design work. “The EF7 is an exciting car that embodies Pininfarina’s DNA in terms of style and innovation, Emerson’s championship race experience and HWA AG’s flawless engineering skills. Our collective team was able to turn a dream into a driving machine,” enthused Pininfarina Chairman Paolo Pininfarina.
