Sam Moran was born in 1978 and grew up in southern New South Wales, Australia. He later moved to Sydney to study classical voice and music education at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, where he was able to experience using music in classrooms and to observe how young children respond to music in their development. Sam was honoured to become a member of The Wiggles in 2006, taking over from Greg Page, who he had understudied on more than 150 occasions. Since then The Wiggles have won two major Australian music industry awards for ʻPop Go The Wiggles!ʼ (2007) and ʻYou Make Me Feel Like Dancing!ʼ (2008). Sam is especially proud that he has contributed to the bandʼs continued success and is thrilled that their audiences have been so welcoming of him. Samʼs first appeared with The Wiggles in 1998, as host of The Dorothy the Dinosaur Show that toured Australia, New Zealand and the United States. He then appeared as Professor Singalottasonga and Dapper Dave in The Wiggles television series and DVDs, and rose to the challenge of providing backing vocals for the English, Spanish and Taiwanese versions of The Wiggles. He has travelled the world as part of The Wiggles Live Show including tours in Australia, Canada, China, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States. Sam first met his wife, Lyn, on tour when she played Dorothy the Dinosaur. They live in Sydney and welcomed their own little ʻWigglerʼ into the world in January 2010, with the birth of their first child, daughter Eloise..

LEARNING RESOURCE KIT COLLECTION MODULE Kylie on Stage Exhibition at Arts Centre Melbourne 2016. Courtesy of the Australian Performing Arts Collection OVERVIEW Humans (and animals for that matter) like to collect things. For some people it’s coins, for some stamps, for some art works. You may end up with one or two of these items, or a whole room full, on display for people who want to come and see. Some people give these items to a museum or official collection to put on display because they are so important. When this happens, a team of professionals will assess the items in terms of Significance and decide whether to add them to their collection. CONTEMPLATE AND DISCOVER Why do we like to keep things? As a class, brainstorm all the reasons why people might start a collection. Think about your family - do you have any collections in your house? In pairs, or small groups, students interview each other about collections they or their family members have (or wish they had). Ask students to consider; • What is in the collection (or what would they like to be in the collection)? • Who owns the collection? • How or why did they start the collection? • How do the things they collect make them feel? Older students may also like to consider the difference between collecting and hoarding. Students share what they discovered with the rest of the class. “Those who do not know the past are doomed to repeat it.” Ask students to consider this quote from Albert Camus. Give students 5-10 minutes to brainstorm or list all the reasons why they feel it is important to remember and study the past.

  • The Wiggles: Arena Rockers for the 21St Century
The Wiggles: Arena Rockers for the 21st Century Johnny Cash was the Man in Black, but the Wiggles--Greg, Murray, Jeff and Anthony--are the Men in Yellow, Red, Purple and Blue. Greg Page, The Wiggles' lead singer, actually retired late last year. I wasn't shocked to receive this news. When I saw the band perform last August (in the company of my young daughters I feel compelled to add), Greg was absent and his understudy, Sam, wore the yellow jersey. Years down the line when I boast that I saw The Wiggles in concert, some guy will surely best me by declaring that he saw the original Wiggles lineup, and the band was never the same once Greg left. The Wiggles arrived on the Ryan Center stage in their trademark Big Red Car, unbuckled their seat belts and waved to the crowd. Wiggles cognoscenti that I am, I noticed immediately that yellow Wiggle Greg was literally not himself — someone else had his shirt on. Murray, the Red Wiggle, announced that Greg was sick. I was immediately curious and guessed food poisoning, but held out the possibility that his face had been bloodied in a bar fight the night before. Then again, perhaps the oft-cited band destroying "creative differences" was at the root of Greg’s absence; I speculated about the form an ugly intra-band rivalry would take in The Wiggles. In retrospect, I feel shabby about these suspicions. Greg has a condition called orthostatic intolerance which produces unpleasant autoimmune disorder type symptoms, and forced him to stop performing.
