SODALITY NEWS The September Sodality meeting has been postponed until after the church remodel is finished and the hall is back to normal. For Children

Sodality has been asked to take a turn providing meals Wednesday evenings for a high school CCD class that is very small. We have been asked to provide a meal for five persons for five times throughout the CCD year, in a rotation with the parents. If you or a group could volunteer to be put on the meal rotation for the freshman girls' class, please call Jacqui Haffner 785-675-1608.

To our church family at St. Frances and St. Martin’s: We are so very grateful to all who assisted us before, during and after the funeral of our mom, Susan. And to those who offered up their prayers as she struggled with her health for the last several years, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We feel so very, very blessed to be part of this family! John and Michelle Cahoj and family

St. Frances Cabrini Parish Council Meeting September 17, 2018 – 7:00 PM

John Cahoj called the meeting to order and Fr. Vincent led the group in prayer.

Members present were: Ron Schamberger, Joyce Tice, John Cahoj, Lucille Heim, Betty Newman, Elmer Zimmerman, Charlene Meier and Fr. Vincent Thu Laing. Also in attendance were Sean Otter, Amanda Tremblay and Jeff Torluemke.

Members absent were: Mat Juenemann, Mauck, Pat Kennedy, and Brian Diercks.

Agenda was reviewed; Lucille commented that member list on Agenda needed to be updated. Lucille made a motion to approve the agenda; Elmer seconded; motion carried.

Minutes were reviewed. Ron made a motion to approve; Betty seconded; motion carried.

Financial reports were reviewed. Elmer made a motion to approve; seconded by Ron; motion carried.

Report of Commissions Religious Education: No report. Evangelization and Welcome: No coffee and rolls on October 7, due to ongoing church renovation. Christian Service and Family Life: Ron is working on Bazaar donations letters which will go out soon. He will also contact the Sodality about the Bazaar dinner. Maintenance and Cemetery: Work needs to be done on east side of church and rectory, replacing and smoothing out rock. Liturgy and Renewal: Sacristans will meet with Father before resuming Mass in the church, regarding logistics planning. Old Business: Cemetery rules and regulations update was tabled until completion of church renovation. New copier/printer for the office was tabled until next meeting. After discussion, current contract on copier/printer will not be renewed in November.

New Business: Jeff reported that Don Marrs from DMA Architects wants it understood that he will not be held responsible for any changes from his plans -- wall behind altar, sound system and heated sidewalk. Don commented how enjoyable it has been working with Doug and Campbell Contracting. Jeff is concerned about the echoing in the church with the hard surfaces being installed. If financially possible, he proposes a movable wall between the hall and the church, which should help with acoustics. It was approved to pay Midwest Energy bill of $4,760.03 out of the General Fund for moving gas line. Meyer Electric’s quote for the sidewalk heating mats is $8,850. There will be no reimbursement for the funeral dinner cost and location due to renovation.

Jeff Torluemke left the meeting at 7:45 PM.

Father’s Report: Father wants to resume Mass in the church as soon as possible. When the pews have been installed and the tile placed in the Sacristy, we will again hold Mass in the church. Father will be at annual retreat next week; no weekday Mass except Monday morning. He requested that the couch in the rectory be replaced; Council approved. Father will be making a trip to Burma in January.

Miscellaneous: Amanda invited everyone to have breakfast at JD’s after morning Mass on October 12, in honor of Father’s birthday.

Announcements: The next Parish Council Meeting will be October 15, 2018, at 7:00 PM.

The meeting was adjourned, and Father led the group in prayer.

Respectfully submitted, Joyce Tice, Recorder
