Lands Distribution Deal with Samuel Goldwyn Films FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE For More Information: Kevin Wandra, 404-788-1276 or [email protected] ‘90 MINUTES IN HEAVEN’ LANDS DISTRIBUTION DEAL WITH SAMUEL GOLDWYN FILMS Incredible True Story of Don Piper’s Death, Heavenly Experience and Return Features Hayden Christensen and Kate Bosworth ATLANTA, Jul 7, 2015 – 90 MINUTES IN HEAVEN—the stirring story of Don Piper, who died in an accident, experienced heaven and returned to face severe physical, emotional and spiritual challenges—has landed a distribution deal with Samuel Goldwyn Films. The faith film is based on Piper’s New York Times best-selling book of the same name with more than 7 million copies sold and premieres in 800 theaters across the country Friday, Sept. 11, 2015. 90 MINUTES IN HEAVEN is presented by Giving Films and stars Hayden Christensen (STAR WARS) and Kate Bosworth (SUPERMAN RETURNS) as Don and Eva Piper. It is directed by Michael Polish (THE ASTRONAUT FARMER). ‘90 MINUTES IN HEAVEN’ TRAILER “We formed Giving Films to tell quality faith-friendly stories with top production values,” said Giving Films founder Rick Jackson, one of the movie’s producers. “To partner with Samuel Goldwyn Films on the distribution is a welcome extension of our drive for quality.” In addition to producing quality faith films, Giving Films has committed to funneling 100 percent of profits to charities. Samuel Goldwyn Films is a major independent producer and distributor of theatrical films and documentaries. Among its extensive catalogue are such faith favorites as FIREPROOF, OCTOBER BABY and AMAZING GRACE. “90 MINUTES IN HEAVEN tells the story of a man holding on to what he knows to be true in the midst of great physical and emotional trials,” said Meyer Gottlieb, president of Samuel Goldwyn Films. “At Goldwyn, this is exactly the type of story we want to help tell.” SYNOPSIS Don Piper died Jan. 18, 1989, when a semi-tractor truck crushed his car. Declared dead by the first rescue workers to arrive on the scene, Don’s body lay under a tarp for the next 90 minutes. Don’s soul, meanwhile, was experiencing love, joy and life like he’d never known before. Don was in Heaven. When another pastor’s prayers helped bring Don back to life, he became a living miracle! Yet this is one miracle Don wished never happened. Heaven’s bliss was replaced by excruciating pain and emotional turmoil. With the support and prayers of his beloved Eva, their three kids and friends near and far, Don clings to his faith in God and fights to regain a semblance of his previous life. The Piper family’s incredible true story of perseverance and overcoming the challenges of life — and death — will bring hope and encouragement to all who see it. Starring Hayden Christensen and Kate Bosworth, 90 MINUTES IN HEAVEN is based on the inspiring New York Times best-selling book that has sold 7 million copies. In theaters this fall, hope lives! While many such “near-God” experiences have made headlines in recent years — including one admitted hoax — Don Piper’s story stands out. “Piper struck me as a reliable witness,” Christianity Today editor and former Christian History editor Mark Galli wrote in CT’s December 2012 cover story about the rise in accounts of such experiences. “Piper simply had the look and sound of sanity, of someone who was telling the truth, whose word was his bond.” “I feel confident that 90 MINUTES IN HEAVEN is going to be another amazing opportunity to share the beauty of what a personal relationship with Jesus Christ can bring into our lives,” says Lisa Hendey, founder of CatholicMom.com and author of The Grace of Yes. “The film will provide us with a special way to share a message with our loved ones, both the churched and the un-churched, about a powerful truth: “Heaven is a real place, and you can go there.’” The movie is directed by Michael Polish. The screenplay was written by Michael Polish, based on the book by Don Piper and Cecil Murphey. The producers are Rick Jackson, Randall Emmett, Dawn Olmstead, Michael Polish and George Furla. Executive Producers are Wayne Marc Godfrey, Ted Fox, Trevor Drinkwater and Jason Netter. To learn more about 90 MINUTES IN HEAVEN, and for press materials, go to www.90minutesinheaventhemovie.com. • “Why So Serious?” Comics, Film and Politics, Or the Comic Book Film As the Answer to the Question of Identity and Narrative in a Post-9/11 World
ABSTRACT “WHY SO SERIOUS?” COMICS, FILM AND POLITICS, OR THE COMIC BOOK FILM AS THE ANSWER TO THE QUESTION OF IDENTITY AND NARRATIVE IN A POST-9/11 WORLD by Kyle Andrew Moody This thesis analyzes a trend in a subgenre of motion pictures that are designed to not only entertain, but also provide a message for the modern world after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. The analysis provides a critical look at three different films as artifacts of post-9/11 culture, showing how the integration of certain elements made them allegorical works regarding the status of the United States in the aftermath of the attacks. Jean Baudrillard‟s postmodern theory of simulation and simulacra was utilized to provide a context for the films that tap into themes reflecting post-9/11 reality. The results were analyzed by critically examining the source material, with a cultural criticism emerging regarding the progression of this subgenre of motion pictures as meaningful work. “WHY SO SERIOUS?” COMICS, FILM AND POLITICS, OR THE COMIC BOOK FILM AS THE ANSWER TO THE QUESTION OF IDENTITY AND NARRATIVE IN A POST-9/11 WORLD A Thesis Submitted to the Faculty of Miami University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts Department of Communications Mass Communications Area by Kyle Andrew Moody Miami University Oxford, Ohio 2009 Advisor ___________________ Dr. Bruce Drushel Reader ___________________ Dr. Ronald Scott Reader ___________________ Dr. David Sholle TABLE OF CONTENTS ACKNOWLEDGMENTS .......................................................................................................................... • Is It a Plane?…..No, It's a 125Mph Tilting Train!
Jul 05, 2006 23:00 BST Is it a Bird?…..Is it a Plane?…..No, it’s a 125mph tilting train! A Virgin Trains’ Pendolino adorned in a unique and eye catching livery to promote the forthcoming release of Warner Bros’ Pictures Superman Returns was unveiled at London’s Euston station today. Combining scenes from the new movie with Virgin Trains’ own branding the travelling billboard will be seen in cities such as Birmingham, London, Liverpool, Manchester, Glasgow, Carlisle, Preston and Coventry for the next six months. This is the first time a domestic inter-city train has been used to carry an exterior advertisement across the country. The Pendolino’s high-speed capability over long distances fits well with Superman’s traditional attributes of strength and speed. Pendolino no. 390 029 has been carefully prepared by maintenance company Alstom’s staff at Wembley Traincare Depot. High adhesive vinyls were painstakingly applied to the sides of the 217m nine-coach train with the help of specialist company Halo Rail who also manufactured the vinyls. The train’s first public journey saw it forming the 10 35 service from Euston to Manchester Piccadilly including a brief scheduled call at Stoke on Trent, the city after which the Pendolino is named. Agencies may be evaluating this new venture with interest. In a sometimes crowded and predictable market place advertisers are always looking for new “cut-throughs” to try and grab the public’s attention. A high-speed inter-city train travelling across the country offers leading brands an alternative and very different way of spreading their messages.
