There is still though the need to be cautious and responsible, our Grounds are not yet open and we need to be patient, there will be time for all things, we just don't need to do anything that compromises future prospects. I need to emphasise again that Teams and Groups of players are not covered by GAA Insurance for activities that are currently taking place in our County, Teams training at local Council facilities, in Forest Parks, on Soccer Pitches, on Farmers Lands are putting at risk the health of your Players, your Club Members and their families, you are also going into other areas and other communities and putting people at risk. For the next 16 days we appeal to you to be patient to wait and look at the programme outlined today by CCC there is enough time to be able to be ready for a return to play. Down GAA have also established a Covid-19 Return to play advisory group headed up by the County Chairperson and including other officers and with additional support from Danny Baxenden and Seán Lennon, the group can be contacted through myself as County Safety Officer and we will try and advise on any queries you might have. -

IRELAND’S FUTURE An Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar TD Oifig an Taoisigh Tithe an Rialtais Baile Átha Cliath 2 1st November 2019 A Thaoisigh, We write to you as citizens to record our deep concerns about the negative repercussions which Brexit will have for our country, for the Good Friday Agreement and for the peace process. Brexit has changed everything. The constitutional, political, social and economic status quo on the island of Ireland is now in flux. Discussion about the reunification of Ireland has moved centre stage. Many citizens are already involved in formal and informal discussions about this. We believe that a new conversation is now required about our shared future on the island of Ireland. The Government needs to plan for this. A clear majority of people in Ireland, both in this state and in the North, want to remain in the European Union. The majority of citizens in the North voted to remain in the 2016 referendum. This includes many Unionists. In recent years a conversation about Ireland’s future, and the place of Unionists in it, is publicly taking place among Unionists. This is a welcome development. Irish citizens should continue to enjoy the rights which accrue from membership of the European Union, as well as the full protection of the European Court of Justice. It is the responsibility of the Government to ensure that the democratic wishes and rights of Irish citizens are respected and protected, regardless of where they live on the island. Let’s have a discussion on how this can be achieved. We would urge you to start this process, based on the vision of democratic change set out in the Good Friday Agreement. -

Ulster GAA SPEAKER PROFILES This is the third Conference in our cycle where we have addressed Children’s Coaching in 2009, Youth in 2010 and now Adults for 2011. We would like to thank all the speakers for their input and in particular we would like to extend a warm welcome and thank you to our speakers and facilitators for today Sessions. We have a wealth of experience in our work-shops and keynotes and we known you will enjoy the interaction. Our Speakers include the following. Keynote Peter McGrath: Peter is a highly respected Gaelic football coach/manager from Rostrevor in County Down. He has managed Down Seniors from 1989-2002 winning Ulster and All-Ireland titles in 1991 and 1994. Peter also managed Down U-21s to 2 Ulster Championship titles as well as the minors to an All-Ireland and 2 Ulster Championships. Again at colleges level he successfully managed St Colemans to 5 MacRory , 4 Hogan and 2 Rannafast Cups. Other honours are a Louth Division 1 title with Cooley and a Down Division 1 title with An Riocht. Pat McEnaney: A highly respected Gaelic football referee, from Corduff in County Monaghan. Pat has refereed many high profile games, including four All- Ireland finals and several International Rules Series matches, includ-ing the first test of the 2006 series at Pearse Stadium, Galway. Pat McE-naney is rated by many as the best Gaelic football referee in the modern game. Raymond Munroe: Raymond hails from Carrickmore and is the current man- ager of the Tyrone U-21 county team. -

We are now getting closer to the possibilities of GAA pitch activities in 2020, the GAA Road Map sets out how that can happen and with this detail, we in Down GAA can set out to our Clubs our path on that Road Map. Coiste Banisti will meet by Microsoft Teams on Monday night next 8th June and then we would fully intend calling an online meeting of the County Committee to give approval to our plans for the remainder of 2020. Details will also be outlined to Clubs in regard to matters of Finance and Insurance for the remainder of 2020, we were after all fully active from November to Mid-March and now we will be resuming hopefully by July time, obligations still have to be met. We will have a window of opportunity to play Club Championships and the CCC have been engaged in preparing for any possible return to play. A return to play will bring with it a different set of challenges to what we have ever been used to and in the public interest we must embrace the challenges and regulations set before us to ensure the health and well-being of our members, their families and their friends. It will be different there is no doubting that but by adhering to what we need to do then we will have the opportunity to play games in the Summer and Autumn of 2020. -

He then talks about playing hurling in Derry City during the Troubles. Paul goes on to speak about his teacher helping in his choice of hurling over football and going on to coach. He discusses setting up Doire Trasna hurling club after Derry won the All- Ireland in 1994 and football coming into the club in 2000. He then tells of the difficulties faced by the club that had no playing grounds and had to share the local facilities.
