The city district of Dzerzhinsky is a rather young city; it received this status in the spring of 1981. In May 1981, by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the RSFSR, the village of Dzerzhinsky was transformed into a city of regional significance. But the history of the city is rooted in the distant past, in the fourteenth century. In the twenties of the last century, the monastery was closed and the building began to be used as a children's commune for street children, called the "Dzerzhinsky Commune". In 1938, the commune was officially given the status of an urban-type settlement.
