The Suns had their unbeaten run stopped last round Marko Jesic has been somewhat of a Jekyll and Hyde thanks to a last minute Sydney United 58 winner for Marconi of late with the talented striker trading which was sure to rankle the club and it’s players. moments of brilliance with moments of madness in each of his last two matches. They will be driven to make up for that defeat against the struggling Stallions and get back in the race for Rockdale will head to Marconi Stadium as favourites the premiership. but Marconi’s squad of stars makes them a side you can never really write off. Interim coach Nick Porecca has had success with a similar line-up in since taking the reigns in round six and expect that to continue. Panny Nikas was absent yet again for Rockdale against United with Alec Urosevski left to do most of the heavy lifting for the Suns. Urosevski remains Rockdale’s most important player and will once again be a good chance of finding his name on the score sheet. Their opponents Marconi come into this match searching for answers after yet another big defeat. The Stallions have slumped to eighth on the ladder and out of the finals spots because of their recent poor form. 1ST GRADE - NPL NSW MEN’S POS TEAM P W D L F A GD PTS 1 Wollongong Wolves FC 12 8 3 1 29 11 18 27 2 APIA Leichhardt Tigers FC 12 7 3 2 23 15 8 24 3 Sydney United 58 FC 12 6 3 3 19 20 -1 21 4 Blacktown City FC 12 6 2 4 13 12 1 20 5 Rockdale City Suns FC 12 6 2 4 13 17 -4 20 6 Manly United FC 12 4 5 3 16 16 0 17 7 Sydney Olympic FC 12 4 3 5 22 21 1 15 8 Sydney FC 12 4 2 6 18 22 -4 14 9 Marconi Stallions FC 12 4 1 7 22 21 1 13 10 Sutherland Sharks FC 12 2 5 5 13 15 -2 11 11 Mt Druitt Town Rangers FC 12 2 4 6 19 29 -10 10 12 Hakoah Sydney City East FC 12 2 1 9 8 16 -8 7 NPLNSW.COM.AU 5 1ST GRADE REVIEWS Rockdale City Suns 2 – Sydney United 58 3 at Ilinden Sports Centre A dramatic last minute Patrick Antelmi strike has ended Rockdale City Suns unbeaten streak as Sydney United 58 claimed a 3-2 win at Ilinden Sports Centre on Sunday. Rockdale paid the price for an off-colour start to the match as their rivals United 58 snuck in to snatch all three points and hand Suns’ interim head coach Nick Porecca his first defeat since taking on the top job in round five. United 58 struck early through Matt Sim before Peter Simonoski gave the visitors a 2-0 advantage at the interval. Alec Urosevski led from the front for Rockdale scoring twice in the second half to seemingly secure at least a point from the contest. However, United 58 would have the last laugh with Antelmi finding the back of the net in dramatic style to clinch an incredible victory for the visitors. The result catapults United 58 into third spot on the ladder while Rockdale cling onto a top five place in fifth. Marconi Stallions 2 – APIA Leichhardt Tigers 4 at Marconi Stadium APIA Leichhardt have put a major dent in Marconi’s finals hopes with a emphatic 4-2 win at Marconi Stadium on Saturday. A whirlwind opening from the Tigers helped them all but secure the victory inside the opening 25 minutes as they raced to a 3-1 lead at the break. Sean Symons took only three minutes to give APIA the lead before his Brother Josh Symons and Corey Biczo got in on the act during a dominant first half performance. Marconi’s best efforts were goals to Mitchell Mallia and Marko Jesic but a penalty miss from Jesic too didn’t help matters for the home side. Chris Payne then added a fourth to all but gift John Calleja the three points. The win helps APIA hold onto second spot on the ladder but it’s bad news for eighth placed Marconi who fall further away from the top five. 6 #NPLNSW TEAM OF THE WEEK 01: LARGE USE: OVER 150MM WIDE This logo has a smaller ‘®’ symbol FOOTBALL NSW WOULD LIKE TO THANK THEIR SPONSORS FOR THEIR CONTINUED SUPPORT 02: SMALL USE: 55MM - 150MM WIDE This logo has a larger ‘®’ symbol NPLNSW.COM.AU 7 keep our game beautiful INTEGRITY IN SPORT Football NSW and the National Premier Leagues NSW are bound by Football Federation Australia’s NATIONAL CODE OF CONDUCT and NATIONAL ANTI-DOPING POLICY.
