N0. 37] 1021 NEW ZEALAND SUPPLEMENT TO THE New Zealand Gazette OF THURSDAY, 2 JULY 1953 Published by Authority WELLINGTON, FRJµ)AY, 3 JULY 1953 CORONATION MEDAL HER Majesty the Queen has approved the institution, to commemorate the Coronation, of a silver medal to be known as " The Coronation Medal ". It has been struck for issue as a personal souvenir from Her Majesty to persons in the Crown Services and others in the United Kingdom and in other parts of the Commonwealth and Empire. Individuals selected for the award in New Zealand will not receive the medal for several weeks after the Coronation. The following is a description of the medal : Obverse: Effigy of Her Majesty the Queen, Crowned and robed and looking to the observer's right. Reverse: The Royal Cypher " E. R. II " surmounted by the Crown. The inscription " Queen Elizabeth II, Crowned 2nd June, 1953 ", also appears on the reverse. The medal is 1-! in. in diameter, and will be worn suspended from a ribbon 1-! in. in width, dark red in colour, with narrow white stripes at the edges and two narrow dark blue vertical stripes near the centre. The Coronation Medal has been classified as an official medal to be worn, on all occasions on which decorations and medals are worn, on the left breast. In the official list showing the order in which orders, decorations, and medals should be worn it has been placed after war medals, Jubilee and previous Coronation medals, but before efficiency and long service awards. Ladies not in uniform will wear the Coronation Medal on the left shoulder of the dress, the ribbon in this case being in the form of a bow. Ladies who are already in possession of official medals worn on a bar may, if they wish, add the Coronation Medal to the bar instead of wearing it separately on a bow . It is also notified that commercially manufactured medallions of whatever origin, which may be en sale on the occasion of the Coronation, should not be worn in such a manner that they might be confused with the official medal awarded by Her Majesty. Her Majesty has approved of the issue of the Coronation Medal to the following persons, A .

He was the last Emperor of India, and the first Head of the Commonwealth. As the second son of King George V, he was not expected to inherit the throne and spent his early life in the shadow of his elder brother, Edward. He served in the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force during World War I, and after the war took on the usual round of public engagements. He married Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon in 1923, and they had two daughters, Elizabeth and Margaret. George's elder brother ascended the throne as Edward VIII on the death of their father in 1936. However, less than a year later Edward revealed his desire to marry the divorced American socialite Wallis Simpson. British Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin advised Edward that for political and Formal portrait, c. 1940–46 religious reasons he could not marry Mrs Simpson and remain king. Edward abdicated in order to marry, and George King of the United Kingdom and the British ascended the throne as the third monarch of the House of Dominions (more...) Windsor. Document of the Month August 2017 Through the Looking Glass: The Royal Correspondence Received by Sir Jonathan Wathen Waller (CR341/152 and CR341/48) The record office holds many fine collections relating to Warwickshire’s landed families; they are treasure troves which never fail to fascinate and surprise the reader. The Waller Family of Woodcote collection, in particular, holds many historical gems which really capture one’s attention. Waller (née Jonathan Wathen Phipps), who was born into a wealthy family, had a highly successful career in medicine. He specialised in the treatment of eye diseases which led him to become a renowned operator on cataracts. Notably, he was also appointed as Oculist to King George III. Waller went on to serve George IV and William IV, and become a close friend to several members of the royal family. The correspondence, therefore, provides a glimpse into the lives of the royal family and those who served them. Indeed, it not only offers insight into medical practice at the time, but also high society news, and some of the royals’ extravagant purchases. The letter written by Princess Mary to Waller. Warwickshire County Record office; CR341/152 1 Document of the Month August 2017 Sir Jonathan Wathen Waller and Princess Mary The first document (CR341/152) is a letter written by Princess Mary, Duchess of Gloucester (1776-1857) to Waller. While we know that it was written on the 16th September, we cannot be sure of the exact year of the letter. However, the black edges show that the Princess was still in mourning for the death of George IV, who died on the 26th June 1830.

I was keen to tackle the more complicated shades of the King George V Royal Cypher series to see if the technique could be used with these as well. I have used a fairly complete range of shades and the majority of the shades in this exercise have been purchased from, or checked by, KGV specialists and some have RPS certificates. Measurement techniques 1. The stamps were scanned against a white background. The few used values were off paper. 2. May 12, 2005 Unveiling offers window of opportunity for Royal watchers Edmonton... Members of the public will have an opportunity to see Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at the Alberta Legislature May 24 when The Queen views the unveiling of a series of centennial stained glass windows highlighting the role of the Monarchy in Alberta over the past 100 years. The set of six windows were designed and created by Paul and Andre Winter of the Winter Art Glass Studio in Edmonton. Each window depicts an element of the Monarchy combined with the symbols and emblems of Alberta. The centre window at the front entrance of the Legislature Building commemorates the reign of Her Majesty The Queen. The centre design includes the monograms of the Royal Cypher, which stand for Elizabeth Regina II, surmounted by the Royal Crown and flanked by wild roses.
