St. John’s UCC – 945 Wolfrum Rd. Weldon Spring, MO 63304 Bible Study The Book of Job Job is the eighteenth book of the bible. The book of Job is thought by many to be the oldest book in the world, and deals with its most difficult question; “Why do the righteous suffer?” The early chapters of Job tell of great misfortunes that came upon Job. When Job’s three friends heard of all the evil that had come upon him, they went to him to comfort, and express their sympathy for him. His three friends argued that as the laws of nature are unchangeable and Job himself was to blame for all the troubles that have come upon him. The book of Job can be divided into six parts: 1) The prologue, 2) Job’s dialogues with his counselors, 3) Elihu’s monologue, 4) The Lord speaks, 5) Job’s confession, 6) The Epilogue.
