Covington City Hall Art Gallery 2019 Call for

General Information The City of Covington opened its City Hall Art Gallery in 2004. Since that time, over 125 local artists and groups have displayed their artwork in the gallery. The Covington Arts , in conjunction with the Covington Parks and Recreation Department, is currently accepting submissions from local and regional artists working in two-dimensional media to exhibit their original artwork during the 2019 gallery season.

About the City Hall Art Gallery Program The Covington City Hall Art Gallery is located in City Hall at 16720 SE 271st Street, Suite 100 with a total of 43.5 linear feet of display space in the city council chambers and the City Hall lobby. Artwork may be viewed Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. Please note that the city council chambers is a public meeting space and may not always be available for viewing artwork during the hours indicated. Please call (253) 480-2400 for a current viewing schedule.

Exhibits will be scheduled for display during a specific calendar month. Please note that the city’s annual art purchase will be made from one of the artists selected to display during the 2019 season.

Eligibility Professional or amateur artists living in western Washington who work in two dimensional media are eligible to submit artwork. Videos will not be accepted. All two dimensional work must be mounted or framed and ready to hang.

Selection Process and Review Criteria The Covington Arts Commission will jury submitted applications. The commission’s selection criteria is guided by the values of the commission and will be based foremost on the following: 1) Meets the requirements of submission; 2) Resume and statement; 3) Whether images submitted are of sufficient quality to make decisions on the work; 3) Variety and type of media and/or themes displayed from month to month; 5) Sufficient number of pieces to display; 6) Availability of artist; 7) Strength of artistic merit of submitted work; and 8) Appropriate scale and suitability for public display. In the instance a tie- breaker is necessary, artists located within Covington will be preferred. All decisions made by Commission will be final.

The Arts Commission selects artists based on the artwork submitted at the time of application. Artists will be expected to exhibit similar works of art as that presented at the time of application.

Notification of Results The application deadline is Thursday, April 4, 2019 by 5:00 p.m. Applicants will be notified of the commission’s decision by e-mail April 18, 2019. The Arts Commission reserves the right not to select any of the applicants for at the City Hall Art Gallery.

Applicants must submit the following no later than April 4, 2019:

• A fully completed Artists Application Form. • A résumé or artist’s background along with an artist’s statement. • Five (5) JPEG images of representative artwork. . Tag each entry with artist name, title, medium, size, description, and price. • A completed application form and five JPEG images may be submitted in the following manner: . IF SELECTED: If selected, the artist must execute an Agreement with the City of Covington. Artist also agrees to allow the City of Covington to reproduce and use up to (2) images (or other provided by the artist) for promoting the exhibit, the arts commission, and the gallery season. Submission of this application constitutes agreement to the use of the artist’s materials in this way. The City will provide information to the media whenever possible or at the media’s request. Decisions to publicize the exhibit are at the sole discretion of the media. Artist may also include a photograph of the artist with or without art, for publicity purposes.

Artists are responsible for transporting, installing, selling, and insuring his or her artwork. The City is not responsible for damage due to improper installation by the artist.

The Artist acknowledges that the artwork provided for display is fully owned by the Artist and/or the Artist is the responsible agent for the displayed art. The artwork will be displayed in public areas. There is no guarantee or assurances of any kind for the protection of the artwork. The Artist, by displaying the artwork, is undertaking all risks of loss or damage to the artwork and will make no claim against the City, its officials, agents, employees, or volunteers for any such loss or damage. The City’s insurance does not cover display Artists’ art. If any party makes a claim for loss or damage to the artwork, the Artist agrees to hold harmless the City for such loss.
