Bridge to Bridge Run Sunday, August 25: The 5K and 12K Bridge to Bridge Run will begin at 8 a.m. from Embarcadero Plaza (formerly Justin Herman Plaza). The following Muni lines and routes will be affected: F Market and 39 Coit. San Francisco Giants Baseball Games Monday, August 26 through Saturday, August 31: The San Francisco Giants will play five home games at the ballpark. • Monday, August 26 through Tuesday, August 27: Two games against the Arizona Diamondback: 1) 6:45 p.m., Monday; and 2) 6:45 p.m., Tuesday. • Thursday, August 29 through Saturday, August 31: Three games against the San Diego Padres: 1) 6:45 p.m., Thursday; 2) 7:15 p.m., Friday; and 3) 6:05 p.m., Saturday. For details about transportation to the ballpark, including connections from Bay Area transit system to Muni, visit https://www.sfmta.com/places/oracle-park. more – more- more CONSTRUCTION WORK AND OTHER UPDATES NEW: Bus Shuttles Substitute California Cable Car Saturday, August 24 and Sunday, August 25: To accommodate the dismantling of a construction crane by a private contractor at Powell and California streets, bus shuttles will substitute the California Cable Car during regular service hours on Saturday and Sunday. Regular cable car service will resume on Monday, August 26. During this bus substitution, the Powell-Hyde and Powell-Mason cable car lines will operate as usual. Throughout the duration of bus substitution: • The bus shuttles will follow the California Line between Drumm Street and Van Ness Avenue picking up passengers at curbside cable car stops. • Service at the Terminal on Drumm Street will be unavailable. Customers may board buses at Drumm and California streets in front of the Hyatt Regency. • Inbound buses will terminate at California and Davis streets. • The stop on California and Powell streets will provide a transfer point to the Powell- Mason and Powell-Hyde cable cars. Regular bus fare of $3 will apply on bus: • $3 for adults (age 19-64) • $1.50 for seniors (ages 65 and older), youth (5-18) • $1.50 for people with disabilities • All single ride fares paid for by cash or Clipper Card will receive the regular 2-hour transfer UPDATE: L Taraval Improvement Project The L Taraval Improvement Project will start construction in summer of 2019 to realize permanent and comprehensive safety components, along with repair and rehabilitation of aging sewer and water lines, worn rails, overhead wires, and roadways. more – more- more CONSTRUCTION WORK AND OTHER UPDATES continued UPDATE: L Taraval Improvement Project continued The project construction work is divided into two segments and overlaps in construction timeline: • Segment A focuses on the streets from San Francisco Zoo to Sunset Boulevard • Segment B will continue from Sunset Boulevard to West Portal • Planned for Spring 2020, train services will temporarily be substituted with bus shuttles during construction • The duration of the project is approximately three years Since Thursday, August 15, traffic pattern on lower Great Highway between Ulloa and Santiago streets has been changed. Northbound travel lane on lower Great Highway has been rerouted to 48th Avenue for two blocks between Ulloa and Santiago streets. Southbound travel lane will continue on lower Great Highway as usual. This will be in effect until project completion in 2022. Monday, August 26 to Friday, September 6: Construction crew will be performing sewer main replacement work on the northside of Taraval Street between 46th and 45th avenues. Work hours are from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. There will be no construction work on Labor Day, Monday, September 2. Some parking spaces will be temporarily restricted in the construction zones and traffic lanes will be modified in the northbound lane during active work. During construction hours, there are planned relocations of bus stops. Muni customers should look for “Board Here” signs nearby: • Thursday, August 29 to Thursday, September 26: Inbound 18 46th Avenue route at 46th Avenue and Taraval Street will be relocated to 46th Avenue & Santiago Street. • Monday, August 26 to Thursday, September 19: Inbound L Owl bus at Taraval Street & 46th Avenue will be relocated to Taraval Street and 45th Avenue. UPDATE: Townsend Corridor Improvement Project Construction of new bike lanes, boarding islands, and sidewalks along Townsend Street from 4th to 8th streets is projected to last through the end of 2019. In August and September, most activity will be taking place on Townsend Street between 4th and 5th streets. more – more- more CONSTRUCTION WORK AND OTHER UPDATES continued UPDATE: Townsend Corridor Improvement Project continued Beginning the first Saturday in September, the following Muni routes will see new stop locations in the vicinity of the Caltrain Station: • 10 Townsend • 47 Van Ness • 81X Caltrain Express • 82X Levi Plaza Express • 83X Mid-Market Express • 91 3rd Street/19th Avenue Owl • N Owl For more information, visit: SFMTA.com/Townsend. Access for people walking, biking, and driving will be maintained during construction. Signs on location will be regularly updated while crews work on the projects in sections throughout the corridor. Construction will generally occur between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday with some night and weekend work. UPDATE: Van Ness Improvement Project On Friday, August 23, between the hours of 8 p.m. and 7 a.m., crews are scheduled to conduct sewer work and water main replacement work at the following locations: • Van Ness at Broadway • Van Ness at Union Street • Van Ness at Golden Gate Avenue • Van Ness at McAllister Street On Saturday, August 24, during the day, crews are scheduled to do sewer work at the following locations: • Van Ness at Union Street (intensive noise and vibration is expected) • Van Ness at Filbert Street (intensive noise and vibration is expected) Because some work requires reducing Van Ness Avenue to one lane in each direction, some work is limited to nighttime hours. Construction scheduling is subject to change due to weather delays or unexpected field conditions. For more project details and the latest construction updates, visit sfmta.com/vanness. more – more- more CONSTRUCTION WORK AND OTHER UPDATES continued UPDATE: Third Street Bridge Rehabilitation Project Nighttime construction work is taking place between the hours of 8 p.m. and 7 a.m. This construction work is anticipated to continue nightly, Monday through Saturday, through 7 a.m., Friday October 4. Since Sunday, July 7, crews have begun phase two of the rehabilitation work. Phase two construction work involves travel lane shifts and other adjustments to the roadway and work area. Vehicle and bicycle access via travel lanes across the bridge continue to be available in each direction, northbound and southbound (except during periods of full temporary bridge closures when the pending scope of work restricts access across the bridge for all vehicle, bicycle and pedestrian traffic). Pedestrian access is available via the sidewalk along the eastern side of the bridge. People on bike may also choose to walk their bicycle along the pedestrian sidewalk as an alternative to riding across the bridge via the travel lane. Pedestrian access via the sidewalk along the western side of the bridge may be unavailable during different phases of upcoming work. To facilitate ongoing rehabilitation activity, temporary full closure of the bridge will be implemented. During closure, all vehicle, bicycle and pedestrian traffic will be restricted. The full bridge closure is scheduled for Thursday, August 15 until 2 p.m., Monday, August 26, 2019. 4th Street Bridge is open and access across the bridge is generally available throughout the Third Street Bridge closure. Please note that during peak commute hours (Monday through Friday, 7 to 10 a.m. and 3 to 7 p.m.), and at the discretion of parking control officers and SFPD, access may be temporarily restricted to clear congested traffic through the area and to allow trains through.

What follows; here are my specific recommendations. This is accompanied by a supporting document: the Civic Center Plan prepared at my request b~ the Planning Department, covering all issues in detail and responding to your request in Resolution 938-86 of October 25, 1986. I urge each of you to study this plan in detail. These proposals would provide a central consolidated courthouse, a new main library, ~ new Asian Act Museum, funded privately, as well as Civic Center plaza and mall improvements. Specific recommendations are also made on financing and implementation. I regret that this comprehensive set of proposals comes to. you late in my tenure in office, however, once work began it became clear that there were a large number of unanswered questions requiring detailed tecluiical review. For example, it was essential that we know the projected space needs of the courts, the main library, the museums and city offices intq the next century. We also needed to know the feasibility of r~enovating~ and expanding the main library, while exploruig alternative uses for this grand building. We now have the necessary studies and consultants' analyses to proceed. Our fiscal situation requires, and these proposals assume, that the General Fund not be the source of support.
