The overriding motivation for the program is the involvement of as many young people as possible. The obvious leadership skills gained from playing within rules, and accepting just authority and the clearly Christian characteristics of dealing graciously in both victory and defeat are readily accessible from an effectively functioning CYO Athletic Program. In CYO programs, the emphasis rests not on the number of events won or lost, but on the participants’ attitude in victory or defeat. Learning how to lose is just as important as learning how to win. Learning how to win graciously is more important than winning itself.
