Atacama to Patagonia: Chile's Natural World 2022
Atacama to Patagonia: Chile’s Natural World 2022 9 OCT – 30 OCT 2022 Code: 22244 Tour Leaders Stephen Ryan, Craig Lidgerwood Physical Ratings Explore the natural wonders of this vast and diverse country, with great forests, unique flora, dramatic coasts and majestic mountains. Enjoy charming towns, lush vineyards & beautiful gardens. Overview "This elongated country is like an island, separated on the north from the rest of the continent by the Atacama Desert – the driest in the world… To the east rises the cordillera of the Andes, a formidable mass of rock and eternal snows, and to the west the abrupt coastline of the Pacific Ocean. Below, to the south, lie the solitudes of Antarctica. This nation of dramatic topography and diverse climates, studded with capricious obstacles and shaken by the sighs of hundreds of volcanoes, a geological miracle between the heights of the cordillera and the depths of the sea, is unified top to tail by the obstinate sense of nationhood of its inhabitants". Chilean author, Isabel Allende Join Stephen Ryan, horticulturalist and author to explore Chile’s unique flora and fauna. Stephen will be assisted by Craig Lidgerwood. Visit public gardens and enjoy privileged access to private gardens that both reflect Chile’s lively contemporary garden culture. Visit the eccentric houses of Chile’s greatest poet, the colourful Pablo Neruda, and hear marvellous stories which inspired Isabel Allende. Explore the rainbow-hued UNESCO World Heritage Listed coastal town of Valparaíso. Visit Santiago's great Museum of Pre-Columbian Art to explore the rich cultural history of Central and South America, and the Padre LePaige Archaeological Museum's collection from the ancient cultures of the Atacama region. -
Excursions with Tierra Patagonia
Excursions with Tierra Patagonia “Why then and this is not only my particular case – does this barren land possess my mind? The Hotel lies a little over 400 meters from Lago Sarmiento, the biggest lake inside the national park. THE LAST FRONTIER (14D-13N) 5N Estancias - 2N Riverside domes - 2N Hotels - 4N Camping Star / End Punta Arenas Cowboy Up: This horseback ride through Torres del Paine and Bernardo O’Higgins National Parks in the stark southern region of Patagonia made veteran traveler Bryan Rees feel like a bona fide cowpuncher. “Drinking mate [traditional herb drink] with gauchos around a fire, cutting pieces of lamb off a spit, and learning to saddle a horse were moments that made the trip feel real and not planned.” These 11 days riding give you time to experience seven Patagonian Estancias in the surrounding areas of Torres del Paine & Bernardo O’Higgins National Park. You will enjoy the estancias' homey feeling and comfort, sharing together with local people a delicious lamb barbecue cooked in the Patagonian style. Highlights include amazing views of the famous Torres, 4 glaciers, Lake Sarmiento and the opportunity to gallop along the magnificent prairie areas called Pampas. Day 1 Transfer Punta Arena’s airport – Estancia Lago Sofia We suggest you take the early flight Santiago - Punta Arenas (4 hours), flying over Los Andes and observing incredible views of the Patagonian Ice Fields. Upon your arrival to Punta Arenas, considered the most southern city on the continent, a private transfer will be waiting to drive you to the surrounding areas of Puerto Natales. As we leave the airport we will be able to see the Straights of Magellan and the mystic Tierra del Fuego. During a 3-hour trip we will drive through open pampas and huge ranches (estancias), and chances are we will be able to observe one of the most typical animals in this area, the ñandu, (rare South American ostrich). -

Ride World Wide Chile, Patagonia Torres Del Paine 2020-2021
RIDE WORLD WIDE CHILE, PATAGONIA TORRES DEL PAINE 2020-2021 RIDE INFORMATION These trips explore the spectacular terrain of Torres del Paine National Park in southern Patagonia. The scenery in this area is undoubtedly some of the wildest and most breath-taking in the world, with huge granite spires, blue glaciers flowing down from the Southern Patagonian Ice Cap, turquoise lakes and forests of southern beech trees. Due to its remoteness, accommodation in the area is fairly limited and access often necessitates long hours in a vehicle on bumpy and often dusty roads. Those participating in the rides need to be prepared for this and for the weather which is notoriously unstable and can change quickly! However, for most, the journey and vagaries of the weather are more than compensated for by the wonderful riding country. DATES Standard rides, offered from set dates between October and March, are for 9 nights and include 8 days riding. Shorter private and tailormade itineraries can be arranged on request for groups of 2 or more throughout the same season. Please see set departure dates overleaf and contact Ride World Wide to discuss your plans and availability. HORSES The horses used for the rides are bred locally on the surrounding estancias for working with cattle and sheep. They are cross breeds, usually Chilean horse or Criollo mix, and are of a medium build. With some Percheron blood, most are a little taller than the local horses of northern Chile, ranging from about 14.2hh to 16hh. They are good-natured and a sensible, forward going and responsive ride. -

PHOTO SAFARI: WILDLIFE & LANDSCAPES IN TORRES DEL PAINE (5D/4N) (1819) 4N Chile Nativo Camp Start / Ends Puerto Natales Chile Nativo has ample experience in organizing photo safari expeditions for people who are interested in the photography of landscapes and wildlife. The Torres Del Paine National Park is one of the most extraordinary places in Chile for the photography of fauna, flora and scenery During your trip you’ll have the opportunity for shooting magnificent vistas and an up close visit to the Glacier Grey, part of the southern Patagonian ice field. Chances are we’ll view a brilliant display of ice calving from the glacier. Other highlights include the majestic Andean Condor with its wingspan of up to ten feet or a Chilean flamingo, a contrast in this harsh landscape. We lodge at our own exclusive camp, located in the Rio Serrano sector of the National Park with spectacular views of the Paine massif. ITINERARY Day 1 Transfer to Torres Del Paine - Wildlife viewing – Guanacos – Grey Foxes – Condors After a good breakfast we head out driving along an unpaved road to the Torres Del Paine National Park. Upon entering the park we will have excellent photographic and birding opportunities as we drive alongside lagoons frequented by Chilean flamencos and black- necked swans. Today’s hike is on a gentle trail following the border of the park and offers opportunities to see guanacos (Llama family) and the Andean Condor. This area, in particular, is a good place to photograph the guanacos silhouetted against the mountains. We will drive all the way to our Riverside camp; crossing most of the park with great landscape shoots opportunities.
