Development through participation has shifted the traditional paradigm by placing emphasis on a diversity of local actors, and has generated mixed results, depending on the socio-cultural context of the development area. The socio- cultural characteristics of the local respondents may provide clues that can prove helpful in optimising the strategy of social intervention. -

PARTEA I: Prezentarea Teritoriului – Analiza Diagnostic

Therefore, this way, the human potential with cultural value as well as the natural potential, unaffected by the mining exploitation, can be valorized through the classic forms of tourism, while the old mining exploitation as well as the areas affected by the unsustainable exploitation of the subsoil riches in the area, instead of being avoided can be rehabilitated and opened to the tourists by unifying the efforts of all responsible economic agents for this area. Key-Words: touristic activity, touristic potential, industrial tourism, unsustainable mining, sustainable economic development, community identity. 1 Introduction century, after which the efforts were concentrated In this study we want to analyze the possibility that on developing the touristic activity for sustaining at a certain time, tourism becomes a base activity for the local community. a community well-known through its mining Analyzing the touristic activity in this area, we exploitations, such as Rosia Montana (Alba County, must consider the fact that every tourist needs a Romania). We will analyze the possibility that such minimum infrastructure for his comfort as well as a community with a rich natural and human hand- the natural and human hand-made touristic potential made potential insufficiently valorized to be that gives the impetus for the touristic activity. -
Micropaleontological Assemblages from the Upper Jurassic-Lower Cretaceous Deposits of Trascău Mountains and Their Biostratigraphic Significance
ACTA PALAEONTOLOGICA ROMANIAE V. 5 (2005), P. 27-38 MICROPALEONTOLOGICAL ASSEMBLAGES FROM THE UPPER JURASSIC-LOWER CRETACEOUS DEPOSITS OF TRASCĂU MOUNTAINS AND THEIR BIOSTRATIGRAPHIC SIGNIFICANCE Ioan I. BUCUR1 and Emanoil SĂSĂRAN1 Abstract: Upper Jurassic-Lower Cretaceous deposits from the Trascău Mountains, mainly developed in a carbonate platform facies, were investigated for their micropaleontological content in several sections, starting from Petreşti-Sănduleşti area (in the northern part) to Rîmeţi area (in the southern part). Several micropaleontological assemblages were determined corresponding to the three depositional units identified in the region: Upper Oxfordian-Lower Kimmeridgian; Kimmeridgian-Lower Tithonian, and Upper Tithonian-Berriasian-Lower Valanginian. In the Upper Oxfordian-Lower Tithonian interval the carbonate deposits are developed in a slope facies, an external platform facies (including coral-microbial reefal buildups), and less frequently in an internal platform facies. The Upper Tithonian-?Berriasian deposits are well exposed in the Cheile Turzii section, and are represented mainly by coarse granular facies. The Berriasian-Lower Valanginian deposits, represented by shallow or very shallow water facies (shallow subtidal to intertidal or supratidal) were studied in several sections (Cheile Turzii, Dealul Secului, Brădeşti) as well as in the olithosliths from Poiana Aiudului. A rich algae and foraminifera assemblages were identified in the studied deposits. They are important for both biostratigraphy (age determination -
TRADITIONAL ROMANIAN HOUSES RIMETEA VILLAGE, TRANSYLVANIA Location
TRADITIONAL ROMANIAN HOUSES RIMETEA VILLAGE, TRANSYLVANIA Location Rimetea (originally Torockó in Hungarian) is unique due to its picturesque setting and its high quality architectural heritage. More than 65 per cent of the houses are traditional buildings surrounded by traditional barns and other ancillary buildings. They form traditional squares and rows. The village of Rimetea is situated within a narrow valley between the steep scarps of Buru Pass and Cheile Aiudului, and is located 25 to 30 kilometres from the towns of Turda and Aiud. To the south, the stark crags of the 1128-metre high Coltii Trascäului (Piatra Secuiului or Szekler's Rock) form a backdrop to the settlement. Rimetea, Alba county – Transylvania region, Romania Village type The land around Rimetea was iron rich, and the settlement’s development is linked to the extraction and processing of this metal. During the Medieval Period the iron mining and processing techniques employed in Rimetea were famous beyond the region. This led to a rise in the settlement’s socio- economic development. The settlement’s dual lifestyle in the 19th century, with the rapid urban development on the one hand and a strong connection to rural traditions on the other, is reflected in Rimetea’s architecture and form. Rimetea’s unified appearance and its celebrated high status 19th- century architecture contributes significantly to the area’s character. The 19th-century buildings frame all four sides of the village square and are decorated in a classicist manner in line with the taste of the local bourgeoisie. The large village square is rectangular in plan, and the regular arrangement of plots around this space suggests that the settlement's form was the result of a relatively short colonisation rather than a gradual organic development. -

Maintaining the Vernacular in Rimetea and Roșia Montană: Politics and Meaning
ISVS e-journal, Vol. 6, no.2, March, 2019 Maintaining the vernacular in Rimetea and Roșia Montană: Politics and meaning Alexandra Florea & Mirjana Lozanovska Deakin University, Melbourne, Australia. Abstract This paper describes succinctly the analysis of two villages, part of a larger research conducted in the region of Transylvania in Romania. It focuses on the relationship between signage and vernacular architecture, arguing that the text and images displayed on the facades of buildings throughout the village are intimately connected to the vernacular and often emphasizes its social, cultural and political past and present. In Rimetea, the signage connects the village, part of Romania after WWI, with Hungary, to which was politically connected since medieval times. In Roșia Montană, the signage supports a proposed mining project by making use of the stories of vernacular architecture. Moreover, this paper brings forth the importance of conducting architectural fieldwork complemented by research on the history and culture of those particular place. Such a methodology was employed for this research, making possible an in-depth analysis of the rural environment in the twenty-first century. Keywords: vernacular, signage, political, fieldwork, village. Introduction This paper describes an in-depth analysis of two of the five villages that were the subject of a PhD research. The research focused on the built environment of five villages in the Transylvanian area of Romania, Eastern Europe (Figure 1), investigating the infrastructure and the state of public buildings, individual houses and public space. Rimetea and Roșia Montană, both villages with a predominantly vernacular architecture, distinguished themselves from the other case studies due to a large number of printed messages and signage displayed on particular buildings. -
