Santa Maria Di Anzano Procession VOL. 121 - NO. 23 BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS, JUNE 9, 2017 $.35 A COPY Santa Maria Di Anzano Procession Launches North End Italian Religious Processions The first Sunday of June by Matt Conti always brings the fi rst Italian religious procession of the sea- son to Boston’s North End, hon- oring Santa Maria di Anzano. After a Mass at Sacred Heart Church, the 112-year-old society kicked off their pro- cession from North Square. Devotees walked the streets with the North End Marching Band for the entire day through the neighborhood. In 1905, a group of ten immigrants from Anzano, Italy, founded the Madonna di Anzano Society that contin- ues today. The image of the Madonna was discovered over 400 years ago in a small village now known as Anzano, Italy.
