Amy Palmer, Caitlin Alexander, Holly McNamara and Mackenzie Smith represented the Music Department by presenting various concerts, supporting the department with new initiatives and visiting our cluster primaries in preparation for the Next Generation concert in May.

 Piper Mackenzie Smith has had a number of successes this session. He is a regular face at Ardrossan Academy events, performing at prizegivings, prom and for the arrival of the Cabinet secretary on her visit to Ardrossan. He played along with 200 other pipers on the Red Hot Chilli Piper’s recording of Highland Cathedral, which will feature on their new album. Ardrossan Academy Achieves Further Music/Arts Achievements - 2018/19

In true Burns’ style Rebekkah Aitken and Abbie Steel gave an Address to the Haggis, piped in by our resident piper Mackenzie Smith. Finlay Campbell also gave a recitation of the Selkirk Grace. Our talented staff and pupils of the Home Economics department made and served our guests a delicious meal, which of course included traditional Haggis, Neeps and Tatties! Two of our student leaders, Declan Tolmie and Evie Hardy added to the evening’s entertainment with their collaborative version of the Address to the Lassies, and Response to the Laddies. Ardrossan Academy Achieves Charities—2018/19

 The Youth Philanthropy Initiative goes from strength to strength at Ardrossan Academy. This years final was of a very high standard. Congratulations to our YPI winners Andrew Connelly, Adam Dickie, Spencer Dent and Paddy Cairns who gave a presentation at the event on behalf of Alzheimers Scotland, winning Phoenix Group: £3000 for the local charity hub

The S1 Phoenix group has made a great impact this session. Students within the group have been working on a number of initiatives aimed at boosting skills in Literacy and Numeracy:

A year of leadership and personal achievement:  Denisa Levai in S5 has been offered a place via the Nuffield Science Research Placement Scheme for this summer. She will spend four weeks working with a research team led by Dr Gregory Vieux from the Department of Physics, University of Strathclyde, specialising in High Energy Laser Physics and its use in electron acceleration.

 32 pupils achieved their Bronze Level Arts Award. Awarded by the Trinity College of London, pupils have spent the year participating in art form, learning an arts skills, investigating an arts practitioner and teaching a new skill. The qualification is recognised nationally and was completed in partnership with local theatre company Capall Dorcha. Serious Cycles:

Ardrossan Academy Achieves Some key dates for next session:

As another school year draws to a close, I would like to thank parents for their ongoing support of the school. We recognise the enormous privilege we have in educating your children and the trust you place in us to do so. Throughout this booklet you will find many wonderful examples of success in and out of the classroom and I am proud of the wide range of opportunities that we provide for our pupils.

Pupils and staff have worked very hard this session so I hope everyone has a restful and relaxing summer – with some sun hopefully! - and I look forward to welcoming everyone back in August.
