The regular meeting of the Board of Education of the City of Vineland was held in the Board Room, 625 Plum Street, Vineland, New Jersey, Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at 7:01 p.m., pursuant to notice with Mr. Giordano presiding and the following members present: Mr. Bernardini, Mr. DeWinne, Mr. Evans, Mr. Franceschini, Ms. Rios, Mr. Spinelli and Mr. Ulrich. Absent: Mr. Fanucci. Also present: Mr. Ottinger, Superintendent, Dr. Figgs and Dr. Gruccio, Assistant Superintendents, Mr. Franchetta, Board Secretary, Mr. DeSanto, Solicitor, Mrs. Polof, Special Education Director, press and public. Absent: Ms. Greenfield, Executive Director of Personnel. Mr. Giordano announced that in compliance with the New Jersey meeting law commonly referred to as “The Sunshine Law,” the Vineland Board of Education has caused notice of this meeting. Flag Salute: Brianna Carini, Cristal Diaz, Megan Pierce and Danielle Weissman students from Landis Middle School, led the Board in the Pledge of Allegiance. Mr. Kohaut Principal and Mr. Panas, Vice Principal were in attendance. Special Presentation (s): Mr. Ottinger introduced Mr. Craig Phillips, Music Teacher, to introduce two students, Daniel Bradbury and Andrea Chieffo, who made the 2009 All South Jersey High School Orchestra. Mr. Phillips said Daniel Bradbury is a junior and this is his first year in the All South Jersey High School Orchestra. He introduced Daniel to play the cello. Mr. Phillips said Andrea Chieffo is a senior this year and this is her third year in the All South Jersey High School Orchestra. He introduced Andrea to play the harp. Mr. Ulrich mentioned that during the holiday season he attended the string ensemble at the high school, which was a very nice program. Approval of Minutes: Upon motion by Mr. Spinelli, seconded by Mr. DeWinne, the Board approved the minutes from December 3, 2008 and December 10, 2008. All Members voted “yes.” Report to the Board – January 26, 2009 Page 2 Report of the Secretary/Custodian Of School Monies: Upon motion by Mr. Spinelli, seconded by Mr. Franceschini, the reports of the Secretary and Custodian of School Monies for the month of November 2008, which are in agreement were approved as submitted and on file in the Minute Book, and the Board approved its monthly certification of budgetary major account fund status and the Board Secretary’s monthly certification as on file with the Secretary. All Members voted “yes.” Solicitor’s Report: None. Public Comment on Agenda Items: None. Motion: A motion was made by Mr. Spinelli, seconded by Mr. Ulrich, to remove the table from the Vineland High School Guidance position so it can be voted on this evening. The Board approve the following personnel items in All Members accordance with the lists provided and on file with the voted “yes” except for Mr. Secretary of the Board: Evans who voted “yes” a. List of retirements on all items except the b. List of resignations/terminations c. List of leaves of absence high school guidance d. List of employment of personnel position he e. List of transfers, assignments and/or promotions voted “no” f. List of student assistants and New Jersey Youth Corps and Mr. g. List of substitute personnel Franceschini h. List of extracurricular assignments who voted “yes” on all items but Mr. Ottinger said Rob Haydak has been added as a “abstained” volunteer wrestling coach pending verification by our on the high school athletic director. He said regarding the tabled item removed this evening he would like to forward the guidance position and recommendation that was submitted previously based Ms. Rios who on the recommendation of Dr. McCann and Ms. voted “yes” Santagata. on all items but voted “no” on the high school guidance position. (8-0-0) All Members 2 1 2. The Board authorize the assignments of the pupils, whose voted “yes.” names are provided and on file with the Secretary of the (8-0-0) Board, to special education programs outside the district with tuition costs to be borne by the Board. Further, the Board approve the acceptance of the tuition pupil(s), whose names are on file with the Secretary of the Board, for placement in special education programs offered in Vineland with tuition costs to be borne by the sending district(s). (Tuition payment and assignments shall be regulated by Chapter 46, Laws of 1966, as amended, and the rules and regulations of the State Department of Education.) The Board approve travel for district members as required voted “yes.” by NJAC 6A:10A-8.3 and school field trips as per lists (8-0-0) provided and on file with the Secretary of the Board. Mr. Spinelli asked if the travel for the athletic trainer is for re-certification. Mr. Ottinger said normally there is an athletic trainer’s convention and certification is involved. He said he will look into it. 2 1 8.     A YEAR LIKE NO OTHER 2020-2021 Report to the Community Mission Statement: Vision Statement: Dear Friends: What can I say about 2020 that hasn’t already been said? It clinics in the state.     DIRECTIONS TO OTHER SCHOOLS Absegami High School - Take Route 40 East to Route 322 at the Hamilton Mall intersection (stay right and go on 322 to first clover leaf) to Pamona Road (runs next to track). Go through two traffic lights to blinker light. Make right on Jim Leeds Road and go approx. three miles (just past Parkway overpass) to “Y” in the road. Bear left on Great Creek to first intersection and make left onto Wrangleboro Road - Absegami is 1/2 mile down on left side. Look for sign. High School is difficult to see from Wrangleboro Road. Audubon High School - Take 295 to exit 28A or B. Exit Route 295 to Route 168 (Black Horse Pike) - exit signs reads, “Mt. Ephraim, Bellmawr, Runnamede” - head West on Route 168 toward Camden. The next major intersection is Kings Highway - approx. three lights turn right onto Kings Highway. Go four blocks past - on your left to Edgewood Avenue (Gulf station on corner) turn left onto Edgewood Avenue. Travel two blocks to school. Fields are behind the school. The gym is at the far end of the school on Edgewood Avenue. Apr 22, 2001 By Michael Vitez INQUIRER STAFF WRITER "Let's go!" Paul Morina yelled. "Pop the head! Pop and snap the head!" The opening tournament of the wrestling season was eight days away. Morina, head coach of the Paulsboro High School team, was teaching takedowns, how to bring your adversary to the mat. He wanted the wrestlers to attack with fury, to hold nothing back, to wrestle as if something sacred were at stake. In his mind, something was: the tradition of Paulsboro wrestling . A fire alarm went off. "The hell with that," he barked. Two assistants slipped out to investigate. Tommy Giorgianni, Morina's nephew, a senior, shoved cotton up his bloody nose and kept banging. Junior James Funk wrestled even though he was woozy. He had given blood earlier that day, and now the inside of his forearm was swelling like a purple egg. Morina, his green eyes flashing, his own thickened wrestler's body damp with sweat, was not satisfied. Not even close. He wanted more. "We're gonna be ranked number one in the state, 10th in the nation. That don't mean anything," Morina shouted. "That's a jinx. You want something? Get on that wall. That wall means something." The names of 19 New Jersey state champions and 75 regional champions were painted in red letters on one wall of the wrestling room. Eleven of the 33 wrestlers on this South Jersey team were related to somebody on that wall.

    School Counts! Start Now to A Parent’s Guide To FAQ’S Improve Tomorrow! Q. What can my child do with his or her certificate? Students can present their certificate(s) to any participating employer and request an interview for a current job opening. Please visit http://www.cccnj.edu/schoolCounts/ scEmployment for the latest job announcements. Q. Who is eligible for the School Counts! scholarship? Students must be a resident of Cumberland County and obtain all 4 School Counts! certificates from a participating high school. Q. What are the Scholarship guidelines? Students must enroll at Cumberland County College and main- tain a full-time, degree-seeking status to receive School Counts! Scholarships. Students must apply for and if applicable use Financial Aid, Pell grants, and other eligible grant scholarship monies (Including NJ Stars) each semester prior to using the School Counts! Scholarship. All other funding is applied toward the tuition credits first. If no other funding applies, School Counts will pick up the 15 college level tuition credits each fall and spring semester. Students must maintain a minimum of a “C” average in every course and maintain a full-time status of 12 credits or more each semester to continue to receive the School Counts! Scholar- ship. Q.
