OVERVIEW

The American Autoimmune Related Diseases Association (AARDA) will host its 5th Los Angeles Autoimmune Walk on Sunday, November 3, 2019 at Culver City Park from 1-5 p.m. with this year’s Walk Ambassador Dayna Caddell (right), a Grammy and Dove Award nominated artist and fellow autoimmune patient.

This Walk is our opportunity to bring together autoimmune patients, families, advocates and friends from throughout the greater Los Angeles area for a day of learning, networking and camaraderie as we raise awareness and funding for patient education, support services and research. Why? Because:

• 50 million Americans (about 1 in 5), suffer from one or more autoimmune diseases. • Autoimmunity is a major Women’s Health issue; 75 percent of all affected are women. • Autoimmunity is the underlying cause of more than 100 serious, chronic disorders, including Lupus, Type 1 Diabetes, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Multiple Sclerosis, Crohn’s Disease, Hashimoto’s, Celiac, Graves’ disease, Sarcoidosis, and Sjogren’s Syndrome. • We need the community to know that autoimmune diseases cluster in families, affecting multiple family members and generations. • The Walk gives autoimmune patients the opportunity to engage with and offer support to one another. • As the founder and facilitator of the National Coalition of Autoimmune Patient Groups (NCAPG), a coalition of 39 single-disease groups across the country, AARDA continuously advocates on behalf of autoimmune patients. • Autoimmune diseases represent the fourth-largest cause of disability among women in the U.S. and are among the top 10 leading causes of death among American women 65 and younger. • AARDA’s Autoimmune Research Network (ARNet) is facilitating patient participation in autoimmune research. • AARDA has spent the last 27 years dedicated to the eradication of autoimmune diseases and the alleviation of suffering and the socio-economic impact of autoimmunity, but the challenge continues.

WALK AMBASSADOR DAYNA CADDELL

Grammy® and Dove award nominated-songwriter and inspirational singer Dayna Caddell has built a reputation as a mainstay in the music industry. With smooth vocal texture, a fervent pen that inspires, and a hit single that topped the playlist charts abroad, there’s little, if any, denying that she’s one to watch.

Always surrounded by music as a child — her father, a former recording studio owner, promoter for jazz fusion group “Weather Report,” and road manager to her godfather, the late Latin jazz percussionist Willie Bobo —she was exposed to countless jam sessions and concerts that often took place within their home. However, what encouraged her to belt out that first note was the sounds of Rufus & Chaka Khan blaring throughout her house constantly by her eldest sister, Brenda. Before she could recite her ABC’s, she was emulating various artists and thoroughly absorbing it all.

“I am the product of rock, hip-hop, soul, R&B, jazz, and gospel all wrapped up in one. I was blessed to have experienced a variety of music from the day I was born. I exude music. It’s so much of who I am!”

Her current project, PUSH, is a collection of creatively cohesive songs that encapsulate the 's urban inspirational-driven theme offering listeners a sense of hope, peace, and encouragement. While collaborating with ingenious multiple award-winning producer , and protégé Vann Clayton the project offers meaningful messages resonating over unforgettably contagious tracks.

Based on life experiences and everyday events, Caddell addresses self-esteem, God’s love, and faith, pouring her everything into this project while writing 90% of the songs to includes meaningful and stand-out songs such as “So Grateful,” a duet with Israel Houghton with background vocals by , “Overjoyed,” a soul-stirring duet with Eric Dawkins, upbeat favorites “Sunshine,” “Happy Like Me,” and “Crazy, produced by Vann Clayton, heart- wrenching ballads as “My One” and “Out,” and the feel-good sing-alongs as “You Got A Friend” and “God Loves You” produced by Warryn Campbell.

Shortly after the release of PUSH, Caddell was diagnosed with an ambiguous autoimmune illness (AI)—her symptoms; swelling, fatigue, brain fog, achy joints, and chronic inflammation— mimicking several AI illnesses. To bring more light to AI, she launched the ‘PUSH for Awareness’ campaign and radio tour creating a platform to promote her project and bring awareness to her illness simultaneously.

Quickly becoming an advocate for her health, in 2017, Caddell teamed up with former NFL Dallas Cowboy and Arizona State University football star, Darryl Clack to spread awareness for AI with the ‘PUSH for Awareness’ campaign during autoimmune awareness month.

As a singer, her versatility allowed her to record background vocals for Diana Ross for a Super Bowl celebration, and appear on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno singing background for pop artist Bisou Phillips. The multi-award duo also supported her by singing background for her at a Stellar Award kick-off event where she was well received.

She landed a song in the Tyler Perry film The Family That Preys and was selected as a finalist in the Session-l John Lennon Songwriting Contest.

She also had the opportunity to study under and perform with, the incredible late Nancy Wilson who commented, “This lady has the most interesting sound. It’s like no other. She appears to be comfortable doing what she does. She’s incredible.” Moreover, as a teen, she had the pleasure of being accompanied by the late great organist Johnny “Hammond” Smith who continuously encouraged her to pursue her dream.

Furthermore, she is the owner of Dayna Caddell Designs, an interior design firm whose work was featured continually on We TV’s reality show Mary Mary. Her firm’s client roster included at one time or another Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, Big Jon Platt – Sr. VP of EMI & Virgin Records, award-winning producer Warryn Campbell and wife Erica Campbell, and many more. She also worked in set design collaborating on the hit sitcoms Martin, and Everybody Loves Raymond.

A Christian woman who inspires through many talents, Dayna Caddell continues to PUSH.
