I especially extend a welcome to those clubs visiting for the first time and to those returning this season. I personally would like to thank all the players for all the hard work and effort they put in last season, all the sides have shown great commitment. Morpeth is a thriving, busy club with lots going on both on and off the field. We enjoy a full programme of events throughout the year which you can find on our club website. With a lot of help from players, volunteers, supporters we have been able to improve and develop our club facilities. In the summer Nat West Rugby Force group have been busy around the club painting and general tidying of the rugby grounds. We have also decorated the club house main function room and the changing rooms. We look forward to another busy season and further improvements. We are a welcoming and inclusive club and I hope that you enjoy visiting. We reinforce the RFU core values that are detailed below. I am very much looking forward to this coming season and seeing you all at the club. I am honoured to be Club Captain for this my sixth season. As a club we have very good playing numbers through the club at all levels due to the hard work of all the people mentioned above. We are currently turning out 4 senior teams, an occasional veterans’ team now known as the Ranters, 3 girl’s teams and most of these players do originate from our 11 mini junior teams. We endeavour to hold true to all rugby traditions both on and off the field – so please come in to our clubhouse after the game. Work equally hard for yourself and the team. Recognise good play by ALL the players on both teams. Play to the spirit of the game and accept without question the decisions of the referee and appointed officials. PARENTS should remember that young people play rugby for their enjoyment NOT that of the parents. Encourage young people to play, but do not force them. Be an example to the youngsters who are the FUTURE of the game and support the Club in their efforts to eradicate poor sporting behaviour. SPECTATORS should embrace the traditional ethos of the game and act as positive role models for all young players. Condemn bad language, rude behaviour, violence, never ridicule any individual and always remain outside of the playing area. It should be noted that Morpeth RFC totally endorse the Rugby Football Union in their efforts to support total respect for Match Officials in that: A person shall not abuse, threaten or intimidate a referee, touch judge or other match official whether ON or OFF the field of play and shall not use crude or abusive language or gestures towards the said officials or spectators.
